Jin’er raised her brows slightly and smiled. “It was nothing special, just a common illness.”

Xiao Jiu nearly choked on her words and could only smile wryly. “I really have to hand it to you. I should tell Master—you’ll definitely make him happy. He might even take you as his apprentice.”

No, not “might”—it should be “definitely.” Her talent far surpassed his. Master would be overjoyed!

Watching them whispering in the corner, Qin’er gnashed her teeth in frustration. Darn it! If Jin’er stayed here, it wouldn’t be long before Senior Brother was snatched away! No, she had to come up with a plan!

Later, Doctor Chen returned from his rounds, and Xiao Jiu recounted everything that had happened in detail.

“No, I just read medical texts for two years out of interest,” Jin’er replied.

Her recent progress owed much to those two years of hard study in the mountain cave. Otherwise, how could her understanding and advancement be so rapid?

“You only read medical texts for two years by yourself?” Doctor Chen was astonished.

“Yes,” Jin’er answered, not understanding his excitement.

“A genius! Truly a genius!” Doctor Chen exclaimed, standing up in excitement. He walked over, took her small hand, and said enthusiastically, “Girl, how about becoming my disciple? I’ll teach you everything I know!”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Jiu stood there with his mouth agape. Everything he knew? Master had never said such words to him!

Jin’er was stunned for a while, weighing things silently in her heart, then nodded. Becoming a disciple could only bring benefits, not harm—why wouldn’t she agree?

“Wonderful! Xiao Jiu, bring the tea for the disciple ceremony!” Doctor Chen was so delighted he seemed to have found a rare treasure, afraid it might slip away.

Though Xiao Jiu was surprised and a little envious, he was truly happy for Jin’er.

Soon, the tea was brought. Jin’er formally knelt and served tea to her new master.

Doctor Chen accepted it with a smile, took a sip, his face radiant with joy. He seemed several years younger all at once.
