Chapter 56: Operation Angry Dragon (Part 21)

Leidong and Wuyun were positioned in the central hall of the primary building.
This hall was approximately 30 meters in length and width, and about 10 meters high, roughly equivalent to the height of a three-story building. Directly opposite the main entrance inside the hall was the stairwell, which served as the sole passage into the interior of the building.
A sturdy engineering vehicle with thick steel armor on its exterior was wedged tightly in the center of the hall, providing Leidong and Wuyun with a fairly decent barricade.
Leidong observed the surrounding environment, raised a hand to gesture to Wuyun, pointed toward the alloy fire door of the stairwell, and gently lifted his Type 32 assault rifle equipped with an under-barrel grenade launcher.
Wuyun grinned wickedly, nodded, and swiftly molded some plastic explosives into several small clusters, sticking them onto the alloy door to form a small circle. He retreated a few steps and fiercely pressed the remote detonation button.
"Boom, boom, boom!"
The plastic explosives detonated almost simultaneously, and the alloy fire door instantly developed a jagged hole about 30 centimeters in diameter.
Before the smoke and haze of the explosion could clear, Leidong raised his weapon and fired.
"Thump!" "Thump!" Two 35mm incendiary grenades passed precisely through the hole, exploding with a deafening "boom." Terrifying flames surged two meters high, forming a dancing dragon of fire that roared into the aperture. Shrill screams immediately rang out as several fellows who had circled down from the upper floors in an attempt to launch a sneak attack were instantly engulfed, turning into huge burning torches. They howled and leaped about, their bodies writhing in agonizing torment as the thousand-degree heat charred them to a crisp within moments.
"Rat-tat-tat," "rat-tat-tat." Leidong and Wuyun opened fire simultaneously. Bullets passed through the hole, and five corpses slumped heavily to the ground, cutting off the screams abruptly.
"Move in!" Leidong barked softly and delivered a ferocious kick. The sturdy and heavy alloy door flew several meters high, soaring all the way to the end of the stairwell where it slammed against the wall before rebounding to the floor with a clattering symphony of clashing metal. Covering each other in turn, the two of them rushed into the stairwell amidst the still-burning flames.
Amidst crisp bursts of gunfire, the running fireballs collapsed onto the ground one after another.
"Not soldiers!" Amidst his busy schedule, Leidong glanced briefly at the weapons in the enemy's hands—they were mostly compact and delicate pistols, standard-issue for intelligence officers and operational staff.
Wuyun curled his lip and muttered, "How boring!" as he casually tossed a flashbang ahead.
With a resounding "boom," the massive flash and shockwave forced the raging fire back, clearing a pathway. The two of them rushed into the stairwell with their eyes closed. Although their combat suits possessed a certain degree of flame retardancy, it was still far from sufficient against the monstrous power of individual incendiary grenades. Even with the physical endurance Leidong and Wuyun possessed at this moment, which allowed them to basically disregard such potency, they had no desire to have their clothes burned away and become naked warriors!

The stairwell had also transformed into a sea of fire. Not only were the wooden handrails burning, but even the metal railings were ablaze.
Taking advantage of the lingering shockwave of the flashbang, Leidong and Wuyun leaped into mid-air, vaulted past the stair landing, and with another bound, jumped straight to the second floor.
While still in mid-air, another flashbang was tossed into the second-floor corridor. With a deafening roar, immediate screams erupted from the entrance of the stairwell.
"Ah—my eyes..."
"Do these pieces of trash seriously think they can pick up easy gains? As if it's that easy!" Leidong's feet hit the floor, and his Type 32 opened fire without a shred of mercy. Amidst the shrieks, several streams of blood spurted out, and the corpses crumpled limply to the ground.
Stepping over the fallen bodies, they rushed into the second-floor elevator lobby. The scene before them was a shambles: some blown over by the tremendous shockwave of the flashbang, some with their faces riddled like sieves by steel pellets, and others shot squarely between the eyebrows. Several corpses lay upon the floor, looking utterly wretched and shocking to the eye.
"Bang!" With a gunshot, Leidong's body lurched violently to one side, a pistol bullet grazing his torso and striking the marble wall with a shower of sparks.
The Tiepeng intelligence officer hiding at the corner of the corridor could never have imagined that the opponent could evade a point-blank, sure-hit shot at such close range. For a moment, he froze in shock, and Leidong immediately raised his weapon and fired.
"Bang!" The Type 32 rifle bullet struck the enemy's lower leg with pinpoint accuracy, causing him to stagger and pitch forward. "Bang!" A 7.62mm bullet instantly blasted the head—which had just protruded past the corner of the wall—into bloody mush!
The moment Leidong fired, Wuyun slightly bent his knees, took a long stride toward the corner, held his Type 32 horizontally with both hands, and launched two 35mm rifle grenades down the hallway with two "thump" sounds. Following two violent explosions, a chorus of ghostly howls echoed through the corridor.
The number of personnel on night duty was already far fewer than usual. Having encountered a sudden assault without time for meticulous deployment, most of the staff and security guards had concentrated in the elevator lobby and stairwell, intending to wait for rabbits by the stump. After this round of attacks, by the time Leidong and Wuyun charged into the hallway, there was not a single living soul left on the entire second floor.
Leidong cocked his ear to listen to the movement, pointed at the ceiling overhead, and made a gesture to Wuyun. He then ran down the hallway, tossing an incendiary grenade into every single room. The entire second floor instantly erupted into raging flames, burning fiercely.
"Damn it, losing all your equipment and data will break your hearts!" Leidong nodded with satisfaction and ran back the way he came.
By this time, Wuyun had already blown open the suspended ceiling panels, pasted strips of plastic explosives onto the exposed grayish-white concrete slab, leaped back to the corridor corner, and fiercely pressed the remote detonator.
"Boom, boom, boom." In a continuous chain of explosions, a massive hole was blasted into the elevator lobby ceiling, and two incendiary grenades followed the explosion through the opening, plunging into the third-floor elevator lobby.

A flurry of panicked scurrying amidst screams made one's scalp tingle.
"One, report your position!" Leidong shouted into the tactical radio.
"Reached the fifth-floor landing!" Song Jingang reported relaxedly. "These guys are damn soft!"
"Nonsense, the building is full of intelligence officers and ordinary desk jockeys, not special forces who have undergone specialized training!" Leidong scolded with a laugh. "Hold your ground and maintain perimeter security; evacuate in two minutes!"
"Roger!"
Leidong ended the call, vaulted through the opening to the third floor along with Wuyun, and began a new round of "destruction."
One minute later, after a continuous series of explosions and popcorn-like gunfire, the third and fourth floors erupted into towering infernos almost simultaneously.
Prior to this, Song Jingang and Luo Haoran, who had been attacking downward from the roof, had already turned floors five through eight into a sea of fire!
The towering flames roared with extraordinary ferocity amidst the pouring rain, continuously spreading toward the other end of the massive building, dyeing the sky and earth red, as well as the terror-stricken faces of the defending troops.
The Tiepeng Defense Ministry's Military Intelligence Headquarters building had transformed into a living hell!
"Call in the artillery! Bring up the artillery and blast them!" the defending commander screamed at the top of his lungs. Driven by fury and fear into an unnaturally shrill pitch, the commander ordered the defending forces outside to slowly elevate the barrels of their 80mm mortars, 25mm twin-barrel chain cannons, and the 100mm howitzers mounted on Type 02 armored vehicles, aiming directly at the nearby building—the vital stronghold they had guarded through countless days and nights.
