Chapter Sixty-Six: The Leverage of Threats
Silver Yao took Wan Youxue’s hand and checked her pulse. Wan Youxue wiped away her tears, gazing at Silver Yao with a hint of confusion. “You know medicine?”
“Why can’t I?” Silver Yao replied lightly. She had studied medicine under her mother, Silver Fox, and besides, she was a secret agent—a prodigy! Her medical skills might not match Wan Youxue’s, but hers were fused with modern high-tech methods. Diseases that puzzled ancient physicians were mere trifles to her, effortless to resolve.
Feeling Wan Youxue’s pulse, Silver Yao frowned slightly: Blood Crimson? Wan Youxue’s blood still contained traces of Blood Crimson, not yet fully cleansed. Blood Crimson was no ordinary herb; it was a poison—deadly poison!
Wan Youxue had consumed Blood Crimson, yet she hadn’t died. Clearly, someone had acted swiftly to save her. They rescued her life, but she lost her memory. Hmm… Memory Loss could be cured with a single dose, but Silver Yao had another method—though it took longer.
That sealed-away memory, Silver Yao guessed, was suppressed by Wan Youxue herself. She wanted to forget, never imagining that her amnesiac self would long so desperately to regain those memories.
“Memory Loss,” Silver Yao whispered.
Wan Youxue’s body trembled noticeably. “Yes, Memory Loss. But Mu hasn’t been able to find Loss Lotus. Do you know? Without that medicinal catalyst, no matter how much I take, the cure is incomplete—it’s useless! My memories haven’t returned, but my headaches keep getting worse!”
“Loss Lotus…” Silver Yao searched her mind for everything she knew about it, and suddenly, clarity dawned. The lingering effects of Memory Loss in Wan Youxue, the mystery of her unhealed memory—now it made sense. Loss Lotus was the catalyst for the remedy; without it, the medicine could not fulfill its purpose. No wonder!
Disappointment—and even despair—flashed in Wan Youxue’s eyes. It was not the first time she’d looked like this. For her sake, Mu had sent countless agents searching for Loss Lotus, but after so long, there was still no news. Perhaps it was hopeless.
Noticing the emotion in Wan Youxue’s eyes, Silver Yao didn’t know why she suddenly wanted to help her so much. She couldn’t figure out why she was becoming more and more involved in others’ affairs… But for the sake of that one sentence—“It won’t stop us from being friends”—she was determined to help.
“Youxue, don’t worry. I, Silver Yao, will find Loss Lotus and use it to cure you! Trust me—I always keep my word!” Silver Yao spoke with unwavering conviction, with rare earnestness.
Looking at Silver Yao, hope rose in Wan Youxue’s heart. It seemed that if Silver Yao said she could find Loss Lotus, then she surely would. If she said she could cure her, then she certainly would.
This inexplicable trust surprised Wan Youxue, and her eyes shone brightly. “Silver Yao, I believe you! You won’t let me down, right?”
Silver Yao smiled, simply because Wan Youxue trusted her unconditionally. She thought, at last, she had chosen to help the right person.
“Youxue, I have a medicine that can temporarily relieve your headaches. I wonder if you dare to try it?” Silver Yao considered and took out a white jade bottle from her sleeve, placing it on the table.
Without hesitation, Wan Youxue took the bottle, removed the stopper, poured out a pill, glanced at it, and swallowed it. “Why wouldn’t I trust you?”
Wan Youxue’s response was increasingly unexpected to Silver Yao. She couldn’t understand why Wan Youxue trusted her so much. Was she not afraid there might be poison in the pill?
Though she looked at it, she barely glanced before taking it. Silver Yao suddenly felt guilty toward Wan Youxue, for she had to admit her initial approach was purposeful. Now, she felt it was time to lay that motive aside…
Silver Yao did not linger. After Wan Youxue took the pill, they chatted briefly, then Silver Yao departed. She had another important matter to discuss with Li Su!
At a certain stronghold of the Hidden Sect.
“Li Su, let me tell you some good news.” Silver Yao smiled. “I’ve become good friends with that woman—Wan Youxue. She leaves a very positive impression on me!”
Li Su frowned in confusion, uncertain. “Are you sure that’s good news? I don’t think so. If you become friends with Wan Youxue, knowing your temperament, you’ll never be able to do what’s necessary! How will we threaten Ji Muyu then?”
“Stop! Let me finish. I’m not the sort to make careless remarks.” Silver Yao interrupted Li Su’s assumptions. He could only nod and wait to hear her explanation of why this was good news.
“Wan Youxue once took Blood Crimson—did you find that in your investigation? She took Blood Crimson but didn’t die. I imagine you’re curious. My guess is someone desperately tried to save her, and that person must have been Ji Muyu’s man. She survived, but lost her memory. And that memory, for some reason, I feel she sealed it herself! But now she wants to regain it.”
“To recover her memory, she must take Memory Loss. I’m sure you know why. The most crucial ingredient is the catalyst: Loss Lotus. Ji Muyu has searched for it for ages and found nothing.” Silver Yao felt she’d said enough—Li Su was clever enough to figure it out. She watched his expressions, catching his surprise, confusion, and thoughtful look.
“We need to find Loss Lotus and use it to threaten Ji Muyu!” Li Su blurted out.
Silver Yao snapped her fingers in approval. “Smart!”
“But knowing your character, are you going to ignore Wan Youxue’s memory?” Li Su knew Silver Yao well. Once she considered someone a true friend, she would do everything in her power to help them.
“Don’t worry, that’s impossible! Her memory is nothing to worry about—I have another way to restore it.” Silver Yao replied confidently.
Li Su finally understood—his worries were unnecessary. Silver Yao had already planned everything, while he’d been fretting pointlessly.
He thought for a moment and shared his idea. “Alright, I’ll send people to look for Loss Lotus. If I remember correctly, my elders once mentioned our estate has Loss Lotus, though I’m not sure. I’ll have a few trusted men go ask right away.”
Li Su’s information was a delightful surprise. Their search would be much easier! Silver Yao nodded in strong agreement.
Seeing this, Li Su summoned his subordinates and gave his orders.
“And also, investigate the direct connection between the massacre of the Wan family of miracle doctors and the heavy blow suffered by the Night Tower! I need this urgently!” As the subordinate was about to leave, Silver Yao added one more instruction.
“Yes, Leader, Master! Your subordinate takes leave!”
