Chapter 139: Taking Back Everything That Belongs to Me
The secret tunnel was pitch black. Silver Fox felt her way along the wall, and after a moment, she smiled brightly and pressed a spot. Instantly, the entire tunnel illuminated, and Silver Fox swiftly moved ahead of Yinyao and Ji Xuanyu.
"Yao'er, stay close. There are many hidden mechanisms in this tunnel, and I'm afraid you might accidentally trigger one," Silver Fox turned and instructed her daughter and Ji Xuanyu.
Yinyao looked at her mother, hesitating as words formed on her lips. She had to admit that her current mother was far too composed. Perhaps the six years spent within the barrier had reawakened her true nature. After all, she was a spiritual maiden of her clan and destined to inherit the position of clan leader; how could she possibly have a weak disposition?
"Yes, Mother. What should we do next?" Yinyao observed her surroundings in the tunnel and asked.
"First, we'll temporarily hide here from the pursuers, and then we will go look for your father! By the way, how did you get here? Have you been to the White Fox clan?"
"Mm, Aunt Bailing is very kind, and everyone is doing well. I stayed there for a while before coming here. Finding you so quickly was sheer good luck!" Yinyao's tone was relatively relaxed.
Hearing this, Silver Fox smiled faintly. "Linger will surely protect the clan members well. She loves her family so much. If my innate talent hadn't surpassed hers, the position of clan leader would have belonged to her in the first place. I took it from her, yet in the end, I threw this heavy responsibility back onto her. When all is said and done, I have failed her." A look of guilt crossed Silver Fox's expression.
"Mother, you mustn't blame yourself anymore. If you truly feel indebted to Aunt Bailing, why don't you just go back instead of feeling guilty? I'm sure Aunt Bailing misses you dearly, and those uncles are also waiting for your return—waiting for you to lead the Spirit Fox clan back to glory across the continent!" Yinyao smiled softly, hoping to help Silver Fox break free from her self-blame.
"Alright, I've lived long enough to understand these things. There's no need for you to lecture me." Silver Fox turned and walked into a room.
"Senior Silver Fox, there is something I would like to ask you." After a long silence and much consideration, Ji Xuanyu finally made up his mind.
Silver Fox turned back to look at Ji Xuanyu. "What is it? Go ahead and ask."
"I want to know if Senior Silver Fox was pregnant with twins back then?" Ji Xuanyu looked straight into Silver Fox's eyes, pronouncing every word clearly.
Faced with such a question, Silver Fox did not answer immediately. Instead, she fell into silence, lowering her head as if lost in deep thought.
"Mother, do I have a twin sibling?" Seeing Silver Fox's reaction, Yinyao could not help asking either. She had been too overwhelmed earlier and had completely forgotten about this matter.
"It still happened after all. I never thought it would be truly unavoidable," Silver Fox murmured to herself.
Wisely choosing not to disturb Silver Fox's memories, Yinyao and Ji Xuanyu waited patiently for what she had to say next.
"Yes, I was originally pregnant with twins. But due to my arduous journey and having crossed the barriers of two continents, the children in my womb were already difficult to preserve. I thought of a forbidden method because I had to choose one child and abandon the other. I had no choice; I had to save at least one. Therefore, I made my choice, selecting you, who had a stronger life force of the two children, and giving up the other."
"However, this method carried a risk, because it was entirely possible that the abandoned child, driven by an overwhelming will to survive, might also survive and exist as a soul within the body of the surviving child. When I chose you back then, that child's soul fell silent, leading me to believe she had given up. I never expected that on the day you were born, she would become active. By then, there was nothing I could do except temporarily seal her soul."
"I conveyed the apology in my heart to that child's soul, and at the same time, I gave her the only method that could save both of them," Silver Fox said softly, completely immersed in her memories.
"Is she an elder sister? Or a younger sister? I heard from the uncles that the longer someone can seize control of the physical body, the more likely it is that they share the same gender as me." Yinyao no longer felt any hatred toward that woman; rather, she realized that woman was the truly pitiful one.
"An elder sister, I suppose. Yao'er, have you already encountered this situation? How much control do you have over your time now?" Silver Fox raised her head, traces of tears flashing in her eyes. She had just been crying.
Yinyao nodded. "Half and half. But I feel that Sister is even more formidable. I have to cultivate with all my might just to wrest back some time."
"Alright. First we'll go find your father, then your sister, and finally return to the White Fox clan."
...
"Granny Fengyi, may I leave now?" A crisp female voice echoed through the forest.
"Go, of course you may go. But before you leave, accompany me to do one thing first." The voice that replied was slightly aged.
Yin Su leaped gracefully down from a tree. On the grassy patch not far away, a white-haired woman sat cross-legged with her eyes tightly closed, looking from a distance like a mere statue.
"You're down. Let's go." Fengyi was precisely the white-haired elder. She had already emerged from the barrier, which meant her cultivation had broken through the Void Emperor realm and entered the Void Sovereign realm!
"Granny Fengyi, where are we going? Will it take a very long time? If so, then I won't accompany you. I've already stayed with you for so long, and I need to go find my friends!" Yin Su had to confirm it once more; she had truly delayed for far too long already!
"Rest assured, it won't take long! Besides, am I not going with you? Don't be impatient!" Fengyi walked ahead without looking back, thanks mostly to the fact that Yin Su was already accustomed to this elder's ways.
Hearing Fengyi say this, Yin Su could hardly refute her, and could only hope that Granny Fengyi wasn't leading her to some godforsaken place! She looked up at the sky, wondering how Gu Shenyu was doing right now. He must have landed in the Tiger clan's territory; given his innate talent and capability, surely he wouldn't fail to get by there. Who knows, he might even be thriving, or perhaps he had already found Yinyao and the others...
No matter what, please wait for her; she would come find everyone very soon!
Within the ancestral forbidden grounds of the Phoenix clan, two figures were currently approaching. Throughout the journey, the pair did not utter a single superfluous word, quiet to the extreme.
Fengyi looked up at the sky. After countless years, she had finally returned. This time, she would take back the authority that belonged to her! She would no longer indulge the others! It was also they who had made her truly understand the meaning of utility value—what could be utilized, and what was considered useless!
In that case, she could not be blamed for being ruthless when the time came.
Yin Su observed Fengyi's actions and the sudden, inscrutable expression on her face. Although she could not guess what Fengyi was thinking, she had a strong intuition that someone was about to suffer.
"Yin Su, later on, no matter what you encounter, what you see, or what anyone asks you, do not pay them any heed. They are not worth it! Understand?" Fengyi withdrew her gaze and looked at Yin Su.
Yin Su raised an eyebrow. "When have you ever seen me speak idle nonsense?"
"Haha~" Yin Su's reply made Fengyi laugh aloud. This child was cold and indifferent, only treating a select few with warmth. That was precisely why she had decided to bring her along; otherwise, she could easily have let her go find her friends first.
Fengyi's laughter was loud and clear, and she deliberately infused her spiritual energy into the sound, causing it to resound across the heavens. Her sole purpose was to attract the attention of certain interested parties.
"Who? Who dares to laugh out loud in our clan's forbidden grounds? Have you grown tired of living?" Someone rushed out from a nearby estate and roared toward Fengyi's location.
Without even lifting her eyelids, Fengyi flicked her right hand, sending a gust of fierce wind straight toward the approaching person. "Call the person in charge out, and tell them that Elder Sister Fengyi has returned!"
At that moment, Yin Su finally realized Fengyi's identity, but she suppressed the urge to step forward and ask questions. She had promised not to be meddlesome! No wonder Fengyi had told her not to say a word regardless of what she saw or heard.
Recalling when she had first met this expressionless elder, she had seemed perpetually on guard against everything. Moreover, during the entire time she had stayed with Fengyi, she had never seen a single soul come to visit her. She had always been completely alone!
Yet her status was so noble; she was the elder sister of the clan leader! Why had no one come to visit her? She was merely a pitiful old woman—why did those people treat her like this?
Yin Su felt she now understood why Fengyi had acted this way!
The man who had been sent flying to the ground cast a fearful glance at the white-haired elder, then scrambled hurriedly back the way he came, muttering incessantly, "You just wait!"
Yin Su smiled and shook her head. This person was utterly foolish to still be seeking momentary verbal satisfaction at a time like this! Furthermore, he didn't even recognize Fengyi, which meant Fengyi really hadn't returned for a very long time, to the point where the current gatekeepers were completely unaware of her existence! This must have been orchestrated by someone with ulterior motives!
Since Fengyi had once been the First Elder, how could they not recognize her? It was likely that someone had intentionally destroyed her portraits and similar items, all to prevent her from seizing back everything when she eventually returned!
At this thought, Yin Su sneered inwardly. This time, since Fengyi had brought her along, if she chose to do anything when the time came, Fengyi had better not try to stop her!
Before long, another white-haired woman approached, flanked by a large group of people. She had been discussing matters with the other elders when someone suddenly rushed over, claiming that someone wanted to see the First Elder, and that the visitor claimed to be the First Elder's older sister! In other words, some woman was claiming to be her older sister!
But wasn't Fengyi still trapped by her own barrier? How could she possibly appear here? It had to be someone attempting to impersonate her identity!
The current First Elder was indeed Fengyi's younger sister, Feng'er. Had Fengyi not been trapped by her own barrier for so long without emerging, Feng'er could never have become the First Elder of the Phoenix clan!
When Fengyi said she wanted to take back everything that was hers, the first thing she needed to reclaim was her identity and authority as First Elder, and at the same time, she intended to give Yin Su a surprise!
Leading the crowd with an aggressive and imposing aura, Feng'er cast a disdainful look at the woman in the distance. But at that very glance, her eyes widened in shock and disbelief!
"E-Elder Sister..."
