Chapter Eighty-Three: The Mountain Road Is Full of Twists and Turns
The mountain road was rough and steep.
Even a high-torque off-road vehicle could only crawl along the long-neglected dirt tracks of Cloud Peak Mountain.
Because of that, Qian Yoyo’s convoy remained right behind them all the way until the sun was sinking in the west, when the group finally reached a flat campsite on the mountainside.
“Brother Lin, this is the place. We’ll camp here tonight. At our current pace, if we set out at dawn tomorrow, we should reach the entrance to the tomb before nightfall.”
Zheng Xuance leapt from the vehicle and, together with Lin Feng and the others, began setting up tents in preparation for the night.
On the other side, Qian Yoyo’s group also came to a stop. But the platform on the mountainside was limited in size, and there was no way it could fit eight vehicles and more than twenty people.
Qian Yoyo glanced at Lin Feng, irritation simmering in her heart. Could it be that tonight she would have to sleep in a car with a bunch of men?
“Max, go and drive those people ahead away. Make them give up the space! I want to sleep!”
At that, a broad-shouldered white man with short hair stepped out from among the mercenaries.
He was all hard muscle, well over six feet tall, with thighs thicker than Wang Jisheng’s head and a physique as imposing as a tiger and bear. A modified pistol was tucked at his waist. He radiated swagger and menace, and was the strongest man among the mercenaries, as well as their captain.
A seasoned hand who had once made a name for himself in the Golden Triangle.
“Miss, don’t worry. I’ll make those dogs get the hell out of here!”
Max was one of Qian Yoyo’s trusted men, and he had always looked down on the people of the Eastern nation, his head full of theories of racial superiority. He firmly believed the Anglo-Saxon race was number one in the world.
White skin was simply superior to yellow skin.
Hearing Qian Yoyo’s order, he was naturally delighted.
So with a bright grin, he led two capable underlings forward, each carrying a German-made HK416 assault rifle, with three pistols among them, swaggering toward Lin Feng’s camp.
“Well, well, well. The yellow-skinned pigs work pretty fast. The tents are already up. What a pity. Our lady has spoken: you can’t camp here. Drive your junk off-road vehicles and get lost. This place has been requisitioned by our lady!”
A cold smile twisted Max’s face, his eyes full of contempt and disdain.
He did not put Lin Feng and the others in the least, taunting them freely as if they were stray dogs.
“Requisitioned? This is the land of the Eastern nation. Since when does it belong to some foreigner for requisition? You’re asking for death!”
Luo Qiankun had never had much goodwill toward these foreign devils to begin with. Provoked like this, he immediately lost his temper.
He threw off his coat, revealing a body of muscle no weaker than the other man’s, and strode straight toward Max.
“You were told you’re a yellow-skinned pig and still don’t believe it? Move one more step if you dare!”
Max’s movements were lightning fast. He drew his gun at once, turned slightly sideways, held the weapon in both hands, and flicked off the safety.
The black muzzle pressed against Luo Qiankun’s forehead, freezing him in place.
“Hahaha! So you’re tough, are you? And what of it? No matter how good your fists and feet are, can they beat my gun? Go on, stare at me again!”
Max smashed a fist into Luo Qiankun’s right eye socket, and a thread of blood seeped out.
Luo Qiankun clenched both fists so tightly that they crackled.
If Wang Jisheng, that weak-legged coward, had not been there, and if he had not feared a firefight where bullets had no eyes and might wound Wang Jisheng, then that stupid, hulking white man would already be lying on the ground half dead.
“They can’t requisition this place, but can I? Do you understand what the international situation is? Do you, a bunch of bumpkins, have any sense of the bigger picture? If you offend Miss Qian and cause Yuntai City to miss this investment opportunity, or if it escalates into an international incident, I guarantee you’ll regret it!”
As Qian Yoyo’s devoted lapdog, Cao Rengui naturally would not miss this chance to show off.
He had quietly followed behind Max all along precisely in order to use his status to pressure Lin Feng and the others, and to claim credit before Qian Yoyo.
Some people get down on their knees before foreigners so often that they grow used to it, and even after becoming a running dog they still imagine themselves noble beyond measure. Luo Qiankun hated such shameless people from his own country the most.
“What? You still want to make a move? Let me tell you, my father is a city official. If you dare lay a hand on me, I’ll make sure you rot in prison for life!”
“You… damn…”
Luo Qiankun burned with rage, nearly losing control.
Lin Feng swept a glance over Max and the others. Calm as an ancient well, he said evenly, “Qiankun, let’s go. Give them the place.”
“But… Grandmaster Lin!”
“It’s fine. Zheng Xuance and I will sleep in the open cargo compartment. There’s no need to take the tents down either. We won’t need them later anyway.”
Lin Feng waved a hand and called Luo Qiankun back. It was not yet time to clash.
“Ugh—”
Luo Qiankun was livid, but had no choice but to obey.
“Hmph! Yellow-skinned pig, at least you know when to give in! Oh, and you brought quite a bit of food too. Come, come, hand it over. After all, it’s a waste for yellow-skinned pigs to eat it.”
Max pressed his advantage and actually looted all the provisions Lin Feng and the others had prepared.
Whatever he could not carry off he threw to the ground, then urinated on it.
“Hahaha! Yellow-skinned pigs, let me add a little seasoning for you!”
“I damn well…”
Lin Feng stopped the enraged Luo Qiankun and watched Max and the others leave.
After all, why should the living quarrel with the dying?
...
Night gradually deepened, and Qian Yoyo’s group was holding a barbecue bonfire party. More than twenty people gathered around a roasted whole lamb, eating meat by the mouthful and drinking wine in great swigs.
“Hahaha! Now this is life! Yellow-skinned pigs, want to come taste our barbecue? As long as you crawl between my legs, you can have one bite!”
“Hahaha! I don’t want a yellow-skinned pig crawling between my legs. Too stinky!”
“Hahaha!”
Max and the others deliberately mocked them loudly, humiliating Lin Feng and the others without restraint.
Luo Qiankun’s fiery temper as a martial artist nearly got the better of him. “Damn it, if Grandmaster Lin weren’t holding me back, I’d teach him how to be a man in minutes!”
The aroma of roasted meat drifted over little by little, and Wang Jisheng’s stomach rumbled with hunger.
“Grandmaster Lin, I’m starving and freezing. How are we supposed to get through the night?”
Lin Feng and the others had parked their vehicle on the mountain road. The four of them sat cross-legged in the open cargo compartment, with the cold wind biting at their sides.
“Wang Jisheng, today you’re lucky. I’ll teach you all a breathing method. Getting through tonight should be no problem.”
“A breathing method? What kind of breathing method could be better than roasted whole lamb?”
Lin Feng smiled faintly and passed along a self-created breathing technique to the others.
This breathing method could devour the spiritual energy of heaven and earth in great gulps. Though crude, it was perfectly suited to beginners and could be learned at once.
Very quickly, the few of them became absorbed by this wondrous method of breathing and entered a state of cultivation, forgetting the distractions of the outside world.
By dawn, the four of them had practiced through the night. Not only did they feel no hunger, they were also brimming with energy, clear-headed and refreshed.
“This method is incredible!” Wang Jisheng opened his eyes, delighted beyond measure.
Luo Qiankun was equally stunned. This breathing technique was more than several dozen times stronger than the cultivation method passed down in his family.
He had once thought he would remain at the bottleneck of the inner force peak for years.
Yet after a single night of breathing practice, that bottleneck had already begun to loosen. It was simply miraculous.
So the first thing he did upon rising was bow deeply to Lin Feng and say respectfully, “Thank you, Grandmaster Lin, for teaching me your art. Luo Qiankun will never forget this.”
This wondrous method of breathing was practically a divine art meant to be passed down for generations, and Lin Feng had taught it to him so selflessly.
Such was the breadth of a grandmaster’s heart.
Lin Feng waved a hand and smiled without speaking. Merely a small trick, not worth mentioning.
Qian Yoyo, however, suddenly noticed that although Lin Feng and the others had clearly spent the entire night sitting outside the vehicle without food or drink, they had not fallen ill; instead, they looked full of vigor. She could not help but feel puzzled.
Could it be that they truly possessed extraordinary skills, each of them impervious to wind and cold?
