Chapter Seventy-Six: A Heartbreaking Moment
Tang Family Residence, Living Room.
Yao Qianqian gently set her teacup down and smiled warmly.
“Miss Yao, besides inquiring about my relationship with Lin Feng, is there anything else that brings you here today?”
“Of course!”
With deliberate composure, Yao Qianqian retrieved a proposal from her handbag and handed it to Tang Yunyun.
“Miss Tang, this is my proposal for further developing the southwestern suburbs. There’s a plot of land there with a very reasonable price. According to inside sources, the southwestern suburbs will soon be developed for a university town project. If things are handled right, establishing a commercial center there will guarantee profits. The only catch is the large upfront investment. I wonder if the Tang family would be interested?”
Tang Yunyun picked up the proposal and glanced through it, quickly grasping the project’s potential.
It could indeed be lucrative, but all the profits hinged on the city’s development plans for the southwestern suburbs—plans that had quietly died with the transfer of the previous mayor.
The “inside information” Yao Qianqian spoke of was already obsolete.
“I’ve read your proposal. It’s detailed, but the initial investment is large and the return period is long. I don’t think the Tang family will invest.”
“Is that so, Miss Tang? How about if I add this?”
Yao Qianqian had come prepared. She placed a divorce agreement on the coffee table and pushed it toward Tang Yunyun.
There was a triumphant glint in her eyes. She hadn’t come today for idle talk; her true aim was to use the promise of divorcing Lin Feng to secure early investment from Tang Yunyun.
Tang Yunyun glanced down at the divorce agreement and let out a soft laugh.
At last, she saw through all of Yao Qianqian’s intentions.
“You wish to exchange a divorce agreement for an investment of three hundred million? That’s the real reason you came to see me today?”
Seeing that Tang Yunyun had seen through her, Yao Qianqian made no effort to conceal anything further. She smiled faintly.
“That’s right. And from now on, you and Lin Feng won’t need to sneak around anymore! Of course, you can refuse, but I hope you’ll read the entire agreement before making your decision.”
“Oh? The entire agreement?”
Tang Yunyun turned to the last page, where several intimate photos of her and Lin Feng were tucked between the sheets.
She picked up the photos, and suddenly, everything became clear.
Perspective!
That’s what it came down to.
Yao Qianqian had only seen Lin Feng’s apparent mediocrity and weakness, but had failed to notice the strength and power that lay beneath.
Moreover, the fact that Lin Feng had not confided a single truth to her spoke volumes—their marriage had long since existed in name only.
Lin Feng would surely divorce her, for a man of true strength could not tolerate slander or humiliation.
Yet from the moment she’d entered, Yao Qianqian had all but recited a litany of Lin Feng’s supposed misdeeds. Her tone and attitude dripped with contempt and disgust—hardly the demeanor of a wife.
Clearly, she was unworthy of Lin Feng.
Tang Yunyun tossed the agreement onto the table, her smile gentle as she looked steadily at Yao Qianqian.
“First, I have no say in the ownership of Villa Number One. That was a gift from my grandfather to Lin Feng. Second, I will not invest in your proposal—it’s not worth it. And lastly, and most importantly, do you really know your husband, Miss Yao?”
“I can tell you with certainty: everything he has, he earned, and he earned it through his own abilities. At first, I worried about your marriage, but now I see that it won’t be long before Lin Feng files for divorce himself.”
“For you, Yao Qianqian, are utterly unworthy to be Lin Feng’s wife!”
Yao Qianqian was stunned. She’d never imagined Tang Yunyun would say such things!
But the only words that truly registered were “no investment.” As for the rest, she hadn’t heard a single syllable.
Seething, she snatched up the incriminating photos, her eyes flashing menacingly.
“What did you say! Tang Yunyun, I have these compromising photos of you and Lin Feng! If word gets out that you’re keeping another woman’s husband, you—”
But before she could finish, Tang Yunyun cut her off.
“Expose the photos if you like—I’d actually welcome it. Grandfather has long intended to invite Lin Feng to join the Tang family by marriage, and the bride he chose is me!”
“This would only give me more leverage to win Lin Feng’s consent! And I will love him with all my life!”
Tang Yunyun straightened in her seat, her bearing poised and confident.
“What! Tang Yunyun, do you have any idea what you’re saying? Bring Lin Feng into the Tang family? Marry you?”
Yao Qianqian was utterly unhinged. She had never dreamed it would end like this.
She’d thought, at worst, she could use the photos and the scandal to force Tang Yunyun’s investment.
Never had she imagined both Tang Yunyun and the whole Tang family would be so taken with Lin Feng—practically worshipping him!
What had this world come to?
What charm could a seemingly ordinary, unremarkable man possess to make Tang Yunyun—Binhai’s most eligible woman—so infatuated?
Yao Qianqian clutched her head, her mind a chaotic mess, completely at a loss.
“Butler? Please show Miss Yao out.”
“Yes, Miss.”
A man in a black tailcoat stepped from the side of the living room, bowed politely to Yao Qianqian, and made to escort her out.
“Wait! If that’s the case, we can make another deal! I’ll divorce Lin Feng immediately and match you two up, then you’ll get what you want! My only request is still just the three hundred million investment!”
Yao Qianqian, grasping at her last hope, nearly fell to her knees, begging Tang Yunyun to agree.
But Tang Yunyun was unmoved. Instead, she gave a cold laugh.
“Yao Qianqian, do you even understand what you’re doing? Do you realize what kind of man you’re giving up? Please leave at once—every second you spend here disgusts me more.”
The butler, no fool himself, summoned the security staff, and Yao Qianqian was quickly dragged out.
“Miss Tang! Miss Tang—!”
Yao Qianqian’s eyes brimmed with shock and unwillingness as she called out repeatedly, but it was all in vain. She was thrown out of the Tang family residence.
Tang Yunyun stood by the window, teacup in hand, gazing at Yao Qianqian’s desolate figure in the distance.
“It’s hard to believe that a man as remarkable as Lin Feng could have such a squalid wife.”
Yao Qianqian stood dazed outside the Tang residence, utterly lost.
Today, not only had she been thoroughly humiliated, but her get-rich-quick scheme had come to nothing.
Yet at this moment, the first person she thought of wasn’t Lin Feng, but Wang Jie.
Indeed, she was filled with grievances and needed to pour her heart out to Wang Jie, her ever-considerate senior—for her awkward standing in the family, for today’s closed doors and humiliation. She just wanted to find that man who had always listened to her.
She took out her phone, her voice choked with sobs as she dialed Wang Jie.
“Hello, Senior Wang Jie, it’s Qianqian… sob sob, today I…”
But before she could finish, Wang Jie snapped at her.
“Yao Qianqian, are you looking for trouble? Do you even know who Lin Feng is? And you still have the nerve to come to me! If you want to get yourself killed, don’t drag me down with you! I’d like to live a few more years!”
With that, he hung up without hesitation.
