Chapter 109: The Grand Assembly Begins
Lin Feng ignored Wang Kaishen's provocation entirely, shifting his gaze instead to the fighting ring.
With the sound of a whistle, the next bout began. Judging by their presence alone, both the red and blue fighters were mere ordinary people who had not even stepped into the world of martial arts, let alone reached the level of innate masters. Although their fighting techniques had some merit, the overall display looked like two infants patting each other on the chest with tiny fists. It was simply too weak.
At this level, back in the Wukun Heavenly Sect—a sect Lin Feng had founded himself thirty thousand years ago—even the menial laborers who swept the mountain gates could have sent these boxers flying with a single slap.
Three rounds later, the blue fighter spotted a defensive blind spot under the red fighter’s ribs and knocked his opponent down with a rapid-fire three-punch combination.
"Nice! Wang Feng, you truly are my lucky charm! Well done!" Wang Kaishen clapped confidently.
Beside him, Yuan Linlin checked her phone and exclaimed excitedly, "Ah! I won, I won! In just a few minutes, I’ve won fifty thousand!"
Having never gambled before, Yuan Linlin was quickly seduced by the thrill of winning money. Her father, Yuan Helin, kept a tight leash on her and strictly forbade anything related to gambling. Now, not only had she broken that long-standing taboo, but she had also turned a profit. If she could keep winning, she wouldn't have to beg her father for pocket money anymore!
Yuan Linlin jumped for joy, while Wang Kaishen stared lewdly at her bouncing chest, a lascivious grin plastered on his face. Li Ruoyun, watching all of this, turned pale with fury. Yet, instead of scolding Wang Kaishen, she glared viciously at Lin Feng, as if blaming him for everything.
After several matches, Yuan Linlin followed Wang Kaishen's tips and had made a small fortune, totaling over two hundred thousand. In her excitement, she unconsciously clung to Wang Kaishen, leaving him feeling restless and eager.
Soon, it was Wang Kaishen’s turn to compete. He changed into boxing gear, put on his gloves, and stepped into the ring. He winked and flirted with Yuan Linlin, acting cool and charming. Abandoning his usual habit of toying with opponents, he knocked his challenger out in three rounds. Seeing the agile, muscular Wang Kaishen in the ring, Yuan Linlin blushed for the first time. Wang Kaishen noticed the change in her demeanor and thought to himself, "The prey is taking the bait so quickly. This is too easy!"
Hours later, the tournament ended. Striking while the iron was hot, Wang Kaishen invited her out: "Linlin, we’re planning to go to the hottest nightclub in Tiange Town next. How about it? Want to go wild for a change?"
"A nightclub?" As the night grew dark, Yuan Linlin hesitated.
Lin Feng reminded her at the right moment, "Yuan Linlin, you’d better come back with me. Or at least give your father a call."
"Hey, are you Linlin's boyfriend?" Wang Kaishen, unwilling to let Lin Feng spoil his fun, immediately intervened.
"No."
"Since you aren't, what right do you have to order Linlin around? Besides, she’s an adult. It’s just a trip to a nightclub; aren't you being a bit too controlling?"
"I’m going, and I’ll tell my dad myself. Besides, Lin Feng, don't forget we only met today. What right do you have to manage my life?" Yuan Linlin retorted, her brows furrowed in cold defiance. She had been reluctant to come out with Lin Feng in the first place; now that she had something far more exciting to do, she had no intention of listening to him. "What I do and don't do is my decision. It’s not your place to interfere!"
Lin Feng shrugged. "Fine. This is your decision. I have no right to question it. Farewell."
You cannot save someone determined to court disaster. Lin Feng had no choice but to walk away. He returned to the villa, informed Yuan Helin about Yuan Linlin’s plans, and went off to practice alone.
…
The night passed in silence. The next morning, Yuan Linlin pounded violently on Lin Feng's door, shouting, "Lin Feng! Was it you who snitched to my dad last night? Was it?!"
Lin Feng opened the door to see her livid with rage. She blamed him for her father catching her at the club and the subsequent embarrassment she faced in front of Wang Kaishen.
"Yuan Linlin, I will say this once: Wang Kaishen has ill intentions. I simply didn't want to be held responsible if something happened to you. From today on, what you do is your own business. I won't interfere again. Take care of yourself." Her self-righteous attitude reminded him of Yao Qianqian, and he felt a sudden wave of disgust.
"Good! It’s better if you stay out of it, hmph!" Yuan Linlin crossed her arms, turned around haughtily, and stormed out of the villa, where Wang Kaishen’s car was waiting.
Watching from the window as Yuan Linlin threw herself into Wang Kaishen's arms like a bird returning to the forest, Lin Feng remained expressionless. He had said all there was to say.
Wang Kaishen looked up, spotted Lin Feng behind the window, removed his sunglasses, gave him the middle finger, and drove off with Yuan Linlin, grinning all the while.
…
Two days later, at Yuan Helin's specific arrangement, Lin Feng and Yuan Linlin arrived at the venue together, only to run into Wang Kaishen and Li Ruoyun at the entrance.
"Linlin, today is a special event for the Martial Arts League; you can't get in without a special ticket."
"A special ticket?"
"Of course, like this one!" Wang Kaishen produced the tickets with a smug look. "However, I only have three. As for any 'extra' people, I guess they won't be getting in!"
"It's fine, Kaishen, let's just go in. Never mind the others!" Yuan Linlin shot a look of disgust at Lin Feng, took Wang Kaishen’s arm, and walked inside.
Wang Kaishen wrapped his arm around her waist, acting as intimate and uninhibited as a real boyfriend. Beside them, Li Ruoyun was so furious that she grabbed Lin Feng and hissed, "Lin Feng, you’ve been a coward since college. I can't believe that after all this time, you’re still the same pathetic loser, unable to even hold onto your own woman!"
"Do you know that Kaishen is breaking up with me? They met last night and didn't come home until morning! You’re wearing a green hat so bright it’s practically glowing, you loser!"
In her agitation, Li Ruoyun raised her hand to slap him. Lin Feng, however, caught her wrist and said sternly, "Li Ruoyun, do you think this is the past? No. I am no longer the Lin Feng you once knew. You had better remember this: do not say you were not warned!"
Lin Feng shoved her aside and walked straight into the venue. Today would mark the beginning of his rise as the leader of the underground world across five provinces, the first step in his return to Jinling to seek blood vengeance against Liang Fengnian.
Clenching his fists, Lin Feng whispered to himself, "Liang Fengnian, we shall meet again in Jinling!"
