Chapter 082: Credit Card Debt Exposed
This story is purely fictional.
Ever since Chi Zhaoming was found to have lost over three hundred thousand, he had not seen Dujuan's shadow for several days. Chi Zhaoming had grown much thinner, his face bloodless, as if he had suffered a grave illness. Dujuan did not return home, instead staying several nights at her childhood friend's place. Knowing Dujuan's temperament, Chi Zhaoming understood that, faced with such a calamity, it would be difficult for her to overcome her grief.
Chi Zhaoming was not afraid of anything else; he only worried that Dujuan might do something foolish. If that happened, how could he face his son, or the elders of the family?
Mingyue called Chi Zhaoming, and he only briefly mentioned the situation. Upon learning the cause, Mingyue anxiously sought ways to resolve the crisis at hand.
Chi Zhaoming recalled the scene when Dujuan discovered his secret: she had grabbed his collar with all her strength, pounding his chest in near hysteria, venting her fury, while Chi Zhaoming remained utterly unresponsive. Truth be told, Chi Zhaoming knew he was at fault, and was prepared for any reaction or action Dujuan might have.
At work, he was troubled and silent, his daily tasks fortunately handled by Xiaobian. Chi Zhaoming flipped through his contacts, searching for anyone who could help him out of his predicament, but met with obstacles everywhere; it seemed he had to abandon the idea of seeking assistance.
He kept calling Dujuan, but no matter how many times he dialed, she refused to answer.
Xiao Yi and Lu Jiahui entered the bar one after the other. When they reached the counter, Lu Jiahui greeted several staff members, then sat at the nearest bar. A waiter approached Jiahui respectfully, "What would you like to drink, Mr. Lu?"
"You know what this lady prefers, don’t you? Bring her favorite drink. From now on, she’s my niece—understand?" said Lu Jiahui.
"Niece? Weren't you courting her not long ago?" The waiter was surprised.
"Mind your own business. Bring the drinks," Lu Jiahui said, kicking the meddlesome waiter.
The waiter immediately bent and apologized, "Sorry, your drinks will be right up."
Soon, the waiter placed the drinks and glasses before Jiahui and Xiao Yi. "Enjoy."
Lu Jiahui poured the wine, passing a glass first to Xiao Yi, who leisurely poured herself some as well. As he poured, Lu Jiahui glanced around, seeing no outsiders, then raised his stemmed glass and looked at Xiao Yi.
"Come, have a sip," Jiahui said.
Xiao Yi took a sip. Having not drunk for days, the taste felt unfamiliar, and her expression was odd.
"What’s wrong? Isn’t this your favorite drink?" Lu Jiahui asked.
"It's the same wine, but at different times and with different company, the taste changes. Do you understand?" Xiao Yi replied.
Lu Jiahui, a man accustomed to the streets, could hardly comprehend Xiao Yi’s sentiments. Seeing him perplexed, Xiao Yi shook her head, saying, "How could you possibly understand?"
"Enough nonsense. Let's get to the point," Jiahui cut straight to the chase.
"Go on, what clever plan are you concocting here?" Xiao Yi asked, curiosity in her voice.
Lu Jiahui leaned in and whispered, "Now, your chance has come."
"What chance?" Xiao Yi pressed eagerly.
"The man you like is in an emotional lull. Dai Yunjie hasn’t seen Ms. Gao for days," Lu Jiahui spoke as if sharing a momentous secret.
"What do you mean, 'hasn’t seen'?" Xiao Yi was confused.
"You know, 'that.' That thing between men and women. Don’t you understand?" Lu Jiahui gestured suggestively.
"So they’re about to break up?" Xiao Yi asked, suddenly interested.
"Exactly, they’re on the verge of splitting. Don’t you think this is your best opportunity?"
"Explain what makes this the best opportunity," Xiao Yi disliked beating around the bush.
"Do you truly like this man?"
"Of course I do. Let me tell you, he’s the only man who makes my heart race. Even thinking of him, not just seeing him, makes my heart feel like it’s about to leap out. It’s a marvelous feeling. But you wouldn’t understand," Xiao Yi said with an air of exclusive understanding.
"Enough, don’t talk to me about love. No one understands love better than me," Lu Jiahui appeared a bit wounded.
"I’ll tell you plainly. If you like a man, you must first understand him. Apparently, he used to be a hustler at MC, was married, but his wife left him for a foreigner, despising his poverty. Unexpectedly, her new husband died abroad of AIDS. Not long after, she put their child in an orphanage and took her own life. The child remains missing to this day."
"Before the World Cup started, our HZ’s boss Gao Yating attended a meeting at MC. She spotted a talented operator—your crush. He came to Dahe, and lived with Gao Yating," Lu Jiahui explained.
"And then?" Xiao Yi asked.
"Want to hear more?" Lu Jiahui looked at her.
"Just finish your story," Xiao Yi was impatient.
"Recently, Mr. Will of MC Entertainment visited Dahe. For several nights, Gao Yating spent the night with him," Lu Jiahui continued.
"What a rotten life this woman leads. If she’s living with Dai Yunjie, she should be loyal! How could she humiliate my beloved with such betrayal? I loathe promiscuous women, and wish I could kill them to vent my rage."
"Right now, Dai Yunjie is in deep pain. I’ve watched him for days; he’s not as lively as when he first arrived at Dahe. It must be connected to recent events," Lu Jiahui went on. "After hearing all this, do you still want him?"
"I love him because he’s the first to move my heart. I don’t care about his past, or who he’s been with. If I can have him, I’ll be endlessly happy, and nothing will change my resolve."
"I admire your approach to love. Uncle will help you fulfill your wish," Jiahui said, excited to meet a kindred spirit.
"It seems this man is truly wounded. I want to help him heal. If I take the opportunity now, I might achieve a surprising result. But how exactly should I do it?" Xiao Yi tapped her temple, deep in thought.
"I’ll tell you a method that will surely move him," Lu Jiahui said mysteriously.
"What method?" Xiao Yi was eager to know.
"Online romance," Jiahui said, serious.
"Online romance? Are you kidding?" Xiao Yi exclaimed.
"With my years of experience in courting women, I know this works. Online romance is the best, most effective cure for heartbreak. Give it a try. I have Dai Yunjie’s business card, with his QQ number," Lu Jiahui said, handing her the card. "Add him as a friend, then act like a psychological expert—care for him, comfort him, melt his heart. Know how to do it? I won’t need to teach you step by step, will I?" He spoke as a master to his apprentice.
"I’ll try it. If it works, I’ll buy you a drink," Xiao Yi grinned mischievously and left the bar.
Dai Yunjie had been staying at the Zhi Zhen Hotel for several days, never returning to the villa or seeing Gao Yating. During these days, whenever he thought of Gao Yating spending nights with Will, his heart churned with discomfort.
He repeatedly questioned himself—why did the women in his life always end up entangled with foreign men he disliked? This problem lingered endlessly in his mind.
Sitting alone, Dai Yunjie did not know how to pass the tedious hours. He recalled moments with his ex-wife. Since their separation, he had thought he would never seek another woman, resigned to solitude for life.
Unexpectedly, Gao Yating's visit to MC changed his fate. Her allure and sensuality made him forget his unhappy marriage. To move beyond that chapter, Dai Yunjie had poured all his strength into starting anew, barely able to begin a new life, only to face circumstances he never wished to imagine.
He understood that, at first, perhaps because he hadn’t been with a woman for years, he couldn’t resist the temptation of a seductive woman. Gao Yating’s openness gave him unforgettable experiences.
Gradually, he found himself drawn in, falling for her without realizing it. Nearly a year of living together made Dai Yunjie feel he was in an ideal state—no longer troubled by physical needs or financial worries.
Most importantly, his position at the company had fully replaced Leng Junfeng, second only to one person. Because of this, Dai Yunjie had endured repeated ostracism and suppression from Leng Junfeng’s faction. Fortunately, with Gao Yating’s protection, his status remained unaffected. Dai Yunjie struggled with how to navigate his relationship with Gao Yating, caught in a web of indecision.
