Chapter Ninety-Two: Registering for the Guild War
Zhang Shan used the baby panda to lure over a column of army ants, more than twenty in all.
These enchanted army ants seemed never to act alone; they always came in swarms.
He had already tried to find the smallest group he could, and even then there were still more than twenty of them.
The attack power of these enchanted army ants was two thousand four hundred. With the baby panda’s hundred-thousand health and its hide as thick and tough as armor, it ought to be able to endure more than twenty of them, right?
As long as he killed them a little faster, it should be fine.
He aimed at one of the army ants at random and fired. The damage came to 1,507.
Good grief. With Zhang Shan’s attack power of 3,800, plus the Demonkin Nemesis title, he had still only managed 1,500 damage.
His damage had been suppressed by nearly two-thirds.
An enchanted army ant had twelve thousand health. To kill one, didn’t that mean eight hits?
Zhang Shan felt a little depressed, but as long as he could farm them, that was enough. He would take it slowly. Once he reached level twenty-six, the level suppression should lessen somewhat, and by then he ought to be able to farm a bit faster.
Besides, monsters of level forty gave more experience. Each enchanted army ant granted 420 experience points.
His leveling speed would be a little slower than farming wild wolves, but still faster than most other players.
Although the army ants suppressed Zhang Shan by level and greatly reduced his damage output, he had many critical-hit effects. From time to time he could land a critical, and especially with Heavy Strike and Holy Strike, one proc was enough to kill a monster instantly.
On average, he did not even need seven hits to kill an army ant.
Looking at the experience bar, he was still a little less than five million experience short of level twenty-six.
Because he was farming level-forty army ants, his leveling speed was slower than before, at best a little over two hundred thousand experience an hour.
He probably would not even reach level twenty-six by tomorrow, unless he could find a few major bosses to fight. Otherwise, he would just have to grind.
He would sleep later tonight and try to reach level twenty-six by eight p.m. tomorrow, before the guild war.
Most of the members of the Sea-Spanning Guild were still around level twenty, with only some having reached level twenty-one.
By then Zhang Shan would be five or six levels higher than them, giving him a certain amount of level suppression as well.
His damage to others would be a bit higher, while the damage they dealt to him would be reduced a bit. Even if it was only a tiny advantage, it was still good.
Though Zhang Shan had always felt that this guild war was a near-certainty, it never hurt to improve a little more if he could.
Zhang Shan kept grinding monsters on the Ant Mountain map. To gain a bit more experience, he stayed up very late before going to bed.
The next day he got up and continued, trying to keep pace with the hard-grinding crowd. He could not go several days without sleep like some others, but sleeping a little less was still possible.
After logging in, Zhang Shan discovered that Wind and Clouds had posted an announcement in the guild channel.
It was about tonight’s guild war, player selection, participation rewards, and the like.
The gist of the announcement was this:
Members who wanted to participate in tonight’s guild war should sign up with Windy Little Secretary. A total of two hundred players would be chosen for battle.
That made sense. In a guild war, the number of participants on one side was between one and two hundred. The Wind and Clouds Guild had already recruited a full thousand members, and it was about to rise to a second-tier guild, allowing it to recruit ten thousand.
It was impossible for everyone to take part in the guild war, so the only way was to have people sign up first and then select suitable fighters.
After registering with Windy Little Secretary and sending him their character attributes and skill panel, they would be added to the pool of reserves.
At six in the evening, the final list of participants would be confirmed. Anyone on the list who had something to do tonight and could not log in needed to speak up as soon as possible.
The most suitable participants would be chosen based on their character attributes and skill strength, as well as class balance.
There was also mention of the rewards for participants. If the guild won the war, the one million gold coin challenge fee would be distributed among all participating members according to the battle power ranking system.
In other words, as long as they won, every participant would receive some gold, more or less.
After all, the total was one million. Even those at the very bottom of the battle power ranking would still get a fair share.
In addition, the guild contribution points earned from defeating the opposing guild would also be distributed automatically according to the battle power ranking.
It should be noted that personal contribution points within the guild were very useful. For example, using guild facilities consumed a certain amount of contribution.
Personal contribution points could also be exchanged for items in the guild warehouse.
It was just that the guild warehouse still contained relatively few things for now, mostly common materials and junk equipment.
Once the guild level rose and more members were recruited, the warehouse would naturally become fuller.
By then, the guild warehouse would be like an alternative shop: an internal store that used personal guild contribution points.
In short, it was never wrong to earn more personal guild contribution points. Zhang Shan made sure to donate one gold coin to the guild every day.
He also kept donating materials and junk equipment, but after so many days he had only accumulated a little over two hundred contribution points.
After all, good equipment still could not be donated. Items of purple quality and above were still in demand at the auction house; as long as the price was normal, they could usually be sold very quickly.
When he became even more formidable in the future, he could donate some orange-grade gear to the guild warehouse as well, counting it as his contribution to the guild’s growth.
He contacted Little Secretary and signed up first.
After sending over his character attributes and skill panel, he called out to Little Secretary.
“Little Secretary, sign me up.”
“Your Godly Artifact Big Boss, are you trying to be sarcastic? What the hell do you need to sign up for? When guild war time comes, even if you’re asleep, we’d have to drag you out of bed.”
“Heh heh, I just saw the boss’s announcement and came to you to register.”
“That’s excessive. Then why the hell did you send me your character attributes and skill panel? Are you trying to crush me? Nearly four thousand attack power, more than ten skills—are you even leaving anyone else a way to live?”
“Brother, don’t get excited. Stay low-key, low-key.”
“What low-key? Believe it or not, tonight during the guild war, the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea will definitely assign dozens of burly men to keep their eyes on you the whole time.”
“What’s there to fear? It’s not like I’m the only one there. You guys will be there too.”
“Still, we can’t be careless. I heard the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea got hold of two pretty insane scrolls. I just don’t know what kind they are. Either way, we have to take it seriously.”
“Damn, two scrolls? Is that reliable? Where did they get them?”
“They bought them off-line. They’ve always had people scouring the forums and other places, purchasing game items at high prices, so getting two scrolls isn’t strange.”
“Good thing our guild is about to reach level two. The level-two battle banner will raise our combat strength quite a bit, and the banner will have more health too.”
“Yeah, it’s almost there. If you have any equipment you don’t need, donate some quickly and push the guild to level two as soon as possible.”
Zhang Shan felt a little embarrassed. He had nothing left to give. His junk equipment had already all been donated or sold to the shop, and as for materials, the ones in his storage were useful.
Right now, aside from donating one gold coin, he had nothing else to contribute.
“Nothing for now. I’ll have some after farming monsters all day today. I’ll have to rely on you guys first.”
“Fine. Getting the guild to level two before eight tonight shouldn’t be a problem.”
