Chapter Sixty: Killing the Little Rabbit Again
He opened his private chat channel and added Heart Follows My Will as a contact. Normally, Zhang Shan kept his private channel closed; only those on his friends list could message him. After all, he was a celebrity in the New World. If he left it open, he’d be flooded with countless messages—a real nuisance.
Since Heart Follows My Will had posted a bounty, his private channel should be open; otherwise, how would others contact him to claim the reward?
"Legendary gear master, what brings you to me? Are you here to take on the bounty?"
Seeing Zhang Shan message him, Heart Follows My Will seemed rather pleased. With the legendary player himself stepping in, his bounty was clearly having the desired effect.
The game had only been live for less than a week, but Zhang Shan was already a household name in the New World. His reputation didn’t just stem from his many first kills of bosses or topping the contribution rankings in city defense events. That divine weapon in his hands alone was enough to turn heads wherever he went.
"That's right. I’ve been wanting to deal with the idiots from Heaven and Earth Guild for a while now, but I never found the time. When I saw your bounty, I thought I’d finally go teach them a lesson."
"Haha, I never imagined you’d actually come. Those Heaven and Earth guys won’t have a moment’s peace now."
"I’m not coming alone—I’m bringing a dozen or so from Stormcloud Guild with me as well."
"Fantastic, the more the merrier. Let’s slaughter them until they’re too afraid to set foot outside the city."
"Can you provide us with their real-time location? If they start running around, it’ll be hard for us to track them down."
"Don’t worry, I’ll handle that. I already have people keeping tabs on them."
"Are you coming with us?"
"Of course. I finally have a chance to take my revenge in person. As for Heaven and Earth’s Cigarette, leave him to me—I won't rest until I’ve taken him down."
"Very well. You name the rendezvous point. Try to keep it low-key so we can ambush them."
"Meet at the west gate—I’ll wait there for you. No point trying to keep it a secret; it’s impossible anyway. They’ve stationed people at all four city gates to keep an eye on me."
"Oh, in that case, nothing to be done. Let’s just hope they don’t run away."
"Relax. Those self-important fools wouldn’t dream of fleeing."
Zhang Shan was glad they wouldn’t run. He enjoyed a direct fight above all—who could intimidate him head-on?
He ended the call with Heart Follows My Will.
Inside the teleportation hall of Sunlight City, the rest of the group had already gathered.
"Gear Master, what did Heart Follows My Will say?"
"He has people tailing the Heaven and Earth Guild already, but there’s no way to keep our arrival secret. The moment we set foot in Eternal Heaven City, they’ll know we’re there."
"As long as we know where they are, that’s fine. Don’t worry about secrecy. I know those fools—they won’t run until we’ve beaten them into submission."
"If you’re all ready, let’s move out. Once we arrive in Eternal Heaven City, we’ll teleport straight to the west gate. Heart Follows My Will is waiting there for us."
Let’s go.
They teleported to Eternal Heaven City, and upon leaving the teleportation hall, the group instantly relocated to the west gate.
Heart Follows My Will was already there waiting for them.
It was Zhang Shan’s first time seeing Heart Follows My Will in person—a magic swordmaster, one of the weakest classes for PvP early on. Though their damage output was decent, they lacked burst skills and had neither control nor slow effects. Unless they picked on the weak, they stood little chance of winning a duel, let alone landing a kill.
"Follow me. They’re still in the Mass Grave map farming monsters, acting all high and mighty, with no intention of leaving."
"Perfect. We’ll rush over, and anyone who gets in our way will be cut down—gods or buddhas, it makes no difference."
"Haha! You’re a true boss, Gear Master. I didn’t get enough kills last time, but this time I’ll make up for it," Stormcloud Blade said excitedly.
No sooner had they arrived in Eternal Heaven City than other players noticed them. Though their party was only a dozen strong, their fame made them impossible to ignore, and the city’s regional channel instantly erupted with chatter.
"Legendary gear master spotted in Eternal Heaven City—here to claim the bounty?"
"Isn’t that obvious? He’s not here on vacation!"
"I saw them too. It’s not just the gear master—Stormcloud Guild brought quite a few people, teaming up with Heart Follows My Will. Heaven and Earth Guild is in for it."
"Serves them right. They were acting all cocky, got beaten like dogs and ran to our city, and now they’re even clearing out maps to farm monsters for themselves."
"Too bad Stormcloud Guild only brought a small team. They probably can’t take them head-on, so it’ll just be some harassment."
"Harassment is fine—why don’t we join in? With someone leading the charge, who wouldn’t want to kick a dog when it’s down?"
"Good point. I’m going too. Heaven and Earth killed me just yesterday. If I don’t get my revenge now, there’s no justice in the world."
"Anyone who wants revenge, come along—let’s settle our scores."
Zhang Shan glanced at the chat and was a little stunned. Had Heaven and Earth Guild always been this arrogant? They’d only been in Eternal Heaven City for a few days, yet they’d managed to antagonize so many people already.
Noticing Zhang Shan’s surprised expression, Stormcloud Blade asked, "What’s up, Gear Master?"
"Look at the regional channel—so many people are condemning Heaven and Earth Guild. Is their reputation really that bad?"
"Only just realizing it? Of the top ten guilds, their reputation is by far the worst. If not for their numbers and strength, people would have wiped them out ages ago."
"I just don’t get it. How do they expect to survive in the game acting like this?" Zhang Shan shook his head, baffled. It wasn’t strange for a single person to behave badly in a game, but a whole group? That was hard to fathom.
"They’re not stupid—they don’t pick fights with just anyone. When they run into someone they can’t handle, they suck up like cowards. You ever see them provoke the Warlord Guild?"
"Oh, so they only bully the weak and fear the strong."
"Stay alert, we’re almost at the Mass Grave. They probably know you’re coming and will be waiting at the map entrance to ambush you."
"Let them. Secretary goes in first, I’ll follow, and the rest of you come in behind me."
Blocking the map entrance was a common tactic; it might work on ordinary players, but it meant little against them. With Secretary’s health and defense, she could withstand a barrage for a second or two, and as for himself—he had two lives, and his teammates behind him. With just two hundred-odd from Heaven and Earth Guild, if they couldn’t kill him in the first volley, they’d never get another chance.
As they neared the map entrance, Zhang Shan suddenly noticed a shadow flicker to the left.
Hmm? Someone’s watching us—a thief.
His Eagle Eye skill increased his perception by twenty percent. That thief probably hadn’t expected Zhang Shan to spot him.
Without alerting his team, Zhang Shan slipped away to the left. Sure enough, he spotted a thief crouched in the grass, spying on their movements.
Well, well—Heaven and Earth’s Little Rabbit again. Zhang Shan didn’t hesitate. As soon as he saw the thief, he opened fire, dropping Little Rabbit with a single shot.
Heaven and Earth’s Little Rabbit was flagged as a red name, and when he hit the ground, he dropped two pieces of gear. Generous.
"You bastards, Six-Barrel Buddha! You dare come to Eternal Heaven City looking for death? Don’t expect to leave alive!"
"Idiot."
The others finally realized what was happening.
"Damn, isn’t that Little Rabbit? Everyone, come take a look—ha!"
Lying on the ground, Heaven and Earth’s Little Rabbit, unwilling to be humiliated, turned into a flash of white light and respawned back in the city. Still flagged red, he was immediately sent to the penalty cell. Tough luck for him.
