The war drums thundered, and the horns sounded—the monster siege was about to begin.

"This is getting interesting. Let’s head out. I wonder if there’s a massive horde of monsters outside the city, or just a handful of elite mobs attacking.”

“No idea. Come on, let’s get up on the city wall and see for ourselves.”

They left the guild residence to find the city filled with players, but not a single NPC in sight.

All the NPC buildings had their doors tightly shut, and even the city guards who usually patrolled were nowhere to be seen.

“Damn, don’t tell me the NPC army really isn’t fighting? Are we players supposed to defend the city by ourselves?”

“How are we supposed to hold the line? We’re all just weaklings right now.”

“Yeah, and that Demon Legion Right General—Lox—just his name screams super boss. There’s no way players can stop him.”

“Whatever, worst case we die a few times. At least we don’t lose experience.”

“Don’t be scared, just do it.”

Demon Legion Right General Lox bellowed, “Minions, kill, kill, kill! Send these defiant humans to the Demon God’s embrace!”

After the general’s war cry, a voice thundered from the city lord’s mansion: “You court death!”

A figure soared up from the city lord’s residence, turning into a streak of light shooting toward the battlefield outside the city.

Moments later, a fierce battle erupted beyond the walls, the sky awash with red light.

“Is this the opening CG cutscene for the event?”

“Good thing the city lord stepped in. He should be holding off Right General Lox. Now it’s our turn.”

“Look over there—monsters, elite ones.”

“What the hell? Aren’t the monsters supposed to attack over the walls? How are they spawning directly inside the city?”

“Damn it, our guild’s respawn point is near the gate—that doesn’t give us any advantage now.”

“Forget it, split up by teams. Kill every monster you see.”

“We still have some edge, at least there’s no one else around here to interfere or steal kills. If they die, they can’t make it back in time, but we can respawn nearby.”

“Exactly. Just farm contribution points near the guild base. If you see a boss you can’t handle, call for backup in guild chat.”

“Let’s go. Secretary, lead the way.”

Secretary was their main tank. With his level fifteen gear, his HP was near ten thousand—tanking monsters shouldn’t be a problem.

“Bunch of red dots to the left. Follow me!” Secretary waved them on.

As they followed the map’s red markers, they found a mob of monsters chasing down players.

By the time they arrived, all those players had already been slain.

“Damn, these monsters are actually hunting players inside the city. The Demon Legion is out of control.”

“Stop wasting time—let’s go. Our siege contribution is still at zero, and lots of people are already on the leaderboard.”

“Hold up, these monsters are tough. Be careful,” Zhang Shan called out.

He was now level twenty and could check the stats of level twenty elite monsters—something the others couldn’t do.

“Artifact Bro, no need to be so cautious. It’s just a purple boss and a few dozen elites. We can take them down with a couple of hits each.”

Zhang Shan didn’t waste words. He shared the elite monster’s stats he could see. The purple boss was level twenty-five, its info hidden from him.

Demon Legion Warrior (Elite): Level 20, HP 100,000, Attack 1,200, Skill 1: Warrior’s Charge, Status: Demon God’s Blessing.

Warrior’s Charge: Charges at the target at high speed, dealing damage and slowing for three seconds.

Demon God’s Blessing: During the siege event, the Demon Legion is inspired by the Demon God, greatly increasing their stats and multiplying HP by ten.

“Damn, the elites have a hundred thousand HP. Doesn’t that mean the purple boss has a few million? That’s beastly.”

“It’s not too bad. We can handle these, just takes longer to whittle down the HP. Their attack power hasn’t doubled, so as long as we can tank, we’re fine.”

“Secretary, grab the boss. Everyone else, split into teams and clear the small mobs. Healers, keep an eye on everyone’s health.”

After Wind and Cloud gave the orders, Secretary charged at the purple boss, holding its aggro while the other elites joined in attacking him.

“Hurry up and pull these elites off me! With dozens of monsters plus the boss, I won’t last long,” Secretary shouted.

The other strength-based classes quickly moved in, each taking an elite.

There were over thirty elite monsters in total, and only about ten strength classes in their group. The rest had to rely on speed and kite the monsters for now.

Zhang Shan also took on a Demon Legion Warrior.

A monster with a hundred thousand HP wasn’t a big deal for him. Standing toe-to-toe, he could finish one off in under thirty seconds.

He could also tank their damage—a 1,200 attack only hit him for eight or nine hundred HP at most.

With his health, he could withstand two or three dozen hits without breaking a sweat.

His attacks rained down on one of the Demon Legion Warriors. The monster turned toward him, charged, and slowed him.

The slow didn’t bother him; he only feared stun effects. Luckily, these elites had none.

In less than half a minute, Zhang Shan dropped the first elite, though he’d lost more than half his health in the process.

After taking one down, he immediately moved to the next—there were still over thirty left. Others were kiting or teaming up on a single mob, but none had managed to kill one yet.

“Healer, top me up,” Zhang Shan called out. With his health so low, it was unsafe, although the elites couldn’t kill him outright.

Still, better to play it safe and heal up, since the healers weren’t under much pressure yet.

The purple boss wasn’t especially strong—just a massive HP pool. Its damage was much lower compared to the priests they’d fought before.

Demon Legion Elite Squad Leader (Purple): Level 20, HP 2,000,000, Attack 2,000, Skill 1: Enhanced Charge, Skill 2: Dual Blades, Status: Demon God’s Blessing.

Enhanced Charge: Charges at the target at high speed, dealing double damage, stunning for one second, then slowing for three seconds.

Dual Blades: Attacks twice in quick succession; the second hit deals double damage.

Demon God’s Blessing: During the siege event, the Demon Legion is inspired by the Demon God, greatly increasing their stats and multiplying HP by ten.

A typical boss, not hard to deal with—just a huge HP pool that would take time to whittle down. With enough people, it would fall quickly.

The key was to clear the small monsters as soon as possible.

As the number of elites dwindled, more teammates were freed up to join the attack.

At first, Zhang Shan took nearly thirty seconds to kill a Demon Legion Warrior. Now, with several people teaming up, each monster fell in just a few hits. In under a few minutes, they’d cleared the small mobs and began to focus fire on the Elite Squad Leader.

“Since the bosses are so much stronger, do you think they’ll drop good loot?”

“You’re dreaming. With so many bosses spawning during the event, there’s no way they’ll all drop good stuff. Unless we kill Right General Lox, that might be different.”

“Then what’s the point of this event? It takes so much effort to kill a purple boss, and the drops aren’t even great.”

“Well, there’s still experience. It’s faster than grinding in the wild. And after the event, there’ll be chests and merit rewards.”

“You’re right. Look, Six-Bar is already at the top of the leaderboard, more than double anyone else.”

“Of course. He can kill an elite in half a minute. If it were just one of us, we’d be kiting for ten minutes and still not finish. No comparison.”

“Let’s finish off this elite squad leader quickly—maybe we’ll get lucky with some good drops.”

“Dream on. It’s pretty much impossible, but hey, we can hope.”
