Chapter 121: The Mountain King
The bandit sorcerer finished chanting his spell, and a rain of firestorms poured down from the sky. The health of those still attacking the BOSS plummeted rapidly.
Zhang Shan watched his own health drop by over three thousand per second, nearly four thousand.
To withstand five seconds of damage, he needed around twenty thousand health points, but he currently had just over nineteen thousand.
He popped a large red potion, restoring five hundred health points, hoping to play it safe—it was pushing his limits.
After five seconds, the bandit sorcerer’s ultimate ended. Nearly everyone present was nearly out of health, but none had fallen.
The fragile fighters who had retreated earlier now returned, resuming their assault on the BOSS.
“Come on, let’s bring the BOSS down quickly. Don’t let it use its ultimate again.”
“There’s no chance for that! It’s about to be destroyed any second now.”
With fifty people attacking together, the damage output was terrifying. Before long, the BOSS was annihilated. Zhang Shan didn’t even have time to react; the panda cub secured the final blow.
There were so many attackers that things got chaotic. Without paying close attention, the BOSS was simply obliterated.
System Announcement: Congratulations to Wind and Cloud World, Six-Tube Bodhisattva, Wind and Cloud Blade… for successfully defeating the corrupted bandit sorcerer.
Rewards: +1 skill point, +100 merit points.
“Haha, finally snagged a skill point.”
“This scroll dungeon is amazing! Already gave us two skill points, though it’s a shame we missed out on the first one.”
“It’s all because Blade didn’t let us come over to farm experience. Otherwise, we could have gotten another skill point.”
Wind and Cloud Blade felt wronged. He had no idea the previous bandit chief would reward skill points. He had to shoulder the blame—there was no denying it was his fault for not letting others farm experience.
“No rush. The final big BOSS should give another skill point.”
“This is truly an awesome scroll. Should we start collecting dungeon scrolls? Forget about equipment for now; if we can get skill points again, that’d be fantastic.”
“Dungeon scrolls are hard to come by. Rarely any listed in the auction house, and those who get them usually use them themselves regardless of whether they can beat the dungeon, which wastes a lot.”
Everyone was struggling with a shortage of skill points. Most players by level thirty could only max out three skills.
Veterans might have more skill points, but before level thirty, very few managed to acquire more than ten additional skill points.
To learn more skills, one had to be frugal with skill points—learning some less critical skills only to level one or two.
Only primary skills were leveled up fully. Skill books were hard to come by, and skill points were just as scarce.
“We need to find a way to gather dungeon scrolls. Didn’t realize the rewards were this good. Let’s have someone post a collection thread on the forum, and keep an eye on the auction house regularly.”
Getting three skill points from one dungeon fired up Wind and Cloud World’s enthusiasm. Although he had left the newbie village first, earning ten skill points, skill points were never enough.
Only people like Zhang Shan, who relied on passives, weren’t very concerned about skill points because his skills were already maxed out.
Today, he’d gained two more skill points but hadn’t yet decided which skill to learn next. He didn’t have the right skill book on hand.
There were some hunter skill books in the auction house, but none suited his needs. He followed a berserker damage output build.
Only skills that stacked attack power, attack speed, and critical hit rate were useful to him. The only thing left was a displacement skill.
He had no interest in learning any other miscellaneous skills.
“Boss, open the loot, let’s distribute gear quickly, clear the mobs fast, then finish with the BOSS.”
“Alright.”
Wind and Cloud World displayed the dropped items:
One orange-quality piece of equipment, two purple-quality items, and an orange material. That was it.
This drop was a bit underwhelming—only one orange gear piece—and since the panda cub didn’t get the final blow, the loot felt lacking.
All three pieces of equipment were intelligence-based, so Zhang Shan was out of luck. He could only join in the roll for the material.
But with fifty people present, rolling the highest score was tough.
He decided to go with the flow for now. His main concern was whether he could trigger the bandit’s passive. As long as he got that frenzy passive, he wouldn’t care about any item.
A group of intelligence-based veterans finished rolling for the three pieces of gear, then moved on to the orange material.
Zhang Shan casually rolled the dice and scored 100.
Damn, why roll a perfect 100 on a material that wasn’t even valuable? Hopefully, he didn’t burn all his luck now.
He still wanted to farm that passive skill.
“Wow, the artifact master is amazing, rolling 100 right from the start. Are you not letting us play with the dice?”
“No worries, you can keep playing. Even if you don’t win the material, rolling the dice is still fun.”
“Let’s keep clearing mobs. The sooner we finish, the easier the BOSS fight will be.”
Groups of five dispersed.
Zhang Shan and his group hadn’t gone far when someone called out in the team channel:
“What the hell! A bandit killed me with two swings—hurry over, it looks like a big BOSS.”
Zhang Shan checked the team info—indeed, one person was down.
“Damn, didn’t we just split up? How can there already be a BOSS? We haven’t even cleared the mobs, the gatekeeper BOSS shouldn’t appear yet.”
“There really is a big BOSS—a red one named Mountain King. Everyone, hurry over.”
“Holy crap, Mountain King? Isn’t that supposed to be the biggest BOSS on this map? How did it appear so fast?”
“Let’s all gather and move there.”
Wind and Cloud World didn’t care whether the enemy slashing down their teammate was the final BOSS or not.
As long as it was a BOSS, they’d attack together and destroy it.
Zhang Shan’s group had no choice but to return. Fighting a BOSS was far more exciting than farming small mobs.
Since they had only just parted ways, everyone quickly regrouped.
They saw the BOSS Mountain King not far away.
Zhang Shan couldn’t help but think that bandits were really sneaky. The Mountain King looked just like an ordinary bandit.
He wielded a cleaver in each hand, and aside from his red nameplate reading “Mountain King,” he was indistinguishable from other bandits.
Apparently, bandits didn’t care about appearances.
They were all underhanded scoundrels with no code of honor.
“It really is a red BOSS. This map won’t have multiple red BOSSes, right?”
“Shouldn’t be. Mountain King should be the biggest BOSS.”
“Yeah, the bandit king has to be the biggest. There can’t be an emperor above him.”
“A red BOSS wielding cleavers should be easy to handle—like a punching bag.”
“Not necessarily. Why don’t you try going up first?”
“Damn it, with my weak frame, I’d be chopped down by Mountain King in two swings.”
“By the way, the guy who went down earlier—did you see the BOSS’s attributes or skills?”
“No. Mountain King just swung twice and took me out. Didn’t have time to check. Besides, I didn’t even land a hit—just got cut down. No attribute info visible.”
“You’re so unlucky—just passing by and got taken out by Mountain King? What a poor kid.”
“How can you say unlucky? Maybe he was lucky—it saved us all the trouble of finding the BOSS.”
“Haha, that’s true.”
“Boss, how do we handle this BOSS?”
“Clear the nearby mobs first. Six-Tube, go start the BOSS fight. Support, make sure to heal the panda cub.”
