Chapter 119: The Bandit Chief
It’s quite rare to encounter a boss that looks exactly like the ordinary mobs it mingles with.
Feng Yun Yidao almost got wrecked.
“That was way too close. Good thing I spotted it early; otherwise, I would’ve been dead. I’ll alert the others to watch out.”
In the team channel, Feng Yun Yidao warned everyone: “Heads up, the boss here looks exactly like the small mobs. Don’t get tricked.”
“What’s going on? How can the boss look the same as the mobs? Shouldn’t it be bigger?”
“No idea. Just be careful. I nearly got ambushed and died.”
“Whoa, have you guys found the boss? Need backup?”
“No need; we’ll crush it in no time. Don’t come steal our experience.”
The newly spawned bandit leader was being relentlessly battered by Zhang Shan and Feng Yun Tianxia, while two beautiful healers tended to the panda cub’s health nearby.
Feng Yun Yidao finally caught his breath and turned back to attack the boss.
“This boss isn’t that strong. If it weren’t for the sneak attack, I could probably take it down with just a healer.”
“Quit bragging. Though its attack power isn’t high, its attack speed is fast. Its damage per second rivals bosses of the same level.”
The boss was firmly held by the panda cub. Zhang Shan took a moment to check its stats.
Demonic Bandit Leader (Orange): Level 30, HP 1.5 million, Attack 3000. Skills: 1. I Love Cleavers, 2. Frenzy, 3. Desperate Triple Slash.
I Love Cleavers: When the Demonic Bandit Leader wields a cleaver, damage increases by 50%.
Frenzy (Passive): After being possessed by demonic energy, the once ruthless bandit leader becomes even more frenzied, greatly boosting attack speed.
Desperate Triple Slash: The Demonic Bandit Leader wields his cleaver with masterful skill, delivering three consecutive slashes. The first slash deals 100% damage, the second double damage, and the third quadruple damage.
“Haha, the boss’s first skill is pretty interesting—‘I Love Cleavers’.”
“Let me see... not bad, the damage boost is only fifty percent. It’s just the skill name that’s funny.”
“Are you kidding? Bandits swinging cleavers already sounds ridiculous.”
“The weapon doesn’t matter. Some monsters throw stones to attack.”
The bandit leader swung his cleaver with incredible speed, much faster than ordinary bandits. Perhaps the same passive skill had a stronger effect on the boss.
Zhang Shan wondered if the Frenzy passive would be triggered by his own talents after the boss was defeated.
Under the furious assault of three fighters and a celestial warrior, the bandit leader’s health plummeted, all while relentlessly using its first and third skills.
Yet this level of damage was no challenge for the heavily armored panda cub, especially with two beautiful healers supporting it.
Within two or three minutes, the Demonic Bandit Leader was felled.
Zhang Shan controlled the panda cub to land the final blow, but the talent didn’t trigger. He wondered if there would be any good drops.
System Announcement: Congratulations to Feng Yun Tianxia, Six-Tube Bodhisattva, Feng Yun Yidao... for successfully defeating the Demonic Bandit Leader.
Rewards: +1 skill point, 100 merit points.
“Haha, this is the easiest boss I’ve fought in the New World. And I even made it to the announcement! Free skill point.”
“Not so easy! Otherwise, why were you getting shredded like a dog? If not for the artifact master pulling the boss off you in time, you’d be dead.”
“Stop telling the honest truth; it’s not cute.”
“Bro, check what dropped. The scroll dungeon is like the hard mode of the Demon Suppression Tower dungeon. The loot shouldn’t be bad.”
Feng Yun Tianxia displayed the drops.
Two orange items, one purple item, an orange material, and a skill book.
“Not bad, it even dropped a skill book. Although it’s a common skill book, it can still fetch a few thousand gold coins.”
Zhang Shan glanced at the skill book—it was a warrior’s Charge skill book.
Though Charge is an ordinary skill, it’s essential for warriors. Many regular players haven’t learned it yet.
It should sell well at auction for a few thousand gold as well.
Among the two orange items, one was an agility-based armor, the other an intelligence-based hat. The purple item was a strength-based pair of boots.
Feng Yun Tianxia handed the armor to Zhang Shan. The three intelligence users discussed and gave the hat to Feng Ling.
The boots went to Feng Yun Yidao.
The remaining skill book and material were yet to be distributed.
“How should we split the skill book and material? Should we roll for them?”
“Fine, let’s roll.”
The skill book would’ve suited Feng Yun Yidao best, but he had already learned Charge, so he’d just sell it.
Everyone left it to chance.
First, they rolled for the material. Each of the five rolled their dice; Zhang Shan rolled an 89 and won the orange material.
With only five people rolling, the odds were better.
Still, none of the five cared much about the skill book or material; the orange material was worth less than a thousand gold.
The Charge skill book was only worth three to five thousand gold. Even Zhang Shan didn’t pay it much mind.
He only wanted good gear; ordinary stuff was meaningless.
Next, they rolled for the skill book. Feng Yun Qingqing’s luck exploded, and she won the Charge skill book.
“Haha, a little win right from the start,” Feng Yun Qingqing said happily.
“Qingqing, your luck’s amazing! You rolled the most valuable item.”
“You’re not bad either; you got a purple item.”
“Purple gear isn’t worth much, maybe three to five hundred gold.”
“If you don’t want it, give it to me. I’ll sell it and buy some snacks.”
“No way! What if you get fat from eating too much?”
“Go to hell. I was born unable to gain weight.”
Everyone was thrilled after defeating an orange boss, except Zhang Shan, who was a bit down.
Though he got an orange item and the material, the passive skill didn’t drop, which disappointed him.
Such a valuable passive skill was rare; this was his first time seeing a monster with an attack speed buff as a passive.
The dungeon scroll could only be used once. He didn’t know if there would be another chance to get the same scroll.
If not, this was his only shot.
Unfortunately, triggering passive skills wasn’t just about effort—it relied heavily on luck.
If it didn’t drop, there was little he could do.
They continued farming, hoping to encounter another boss.
Passive skills on small mobs were even less likely to drop. Completing the entire dungeon would generate maybe three to five thousand mobs per player, with fifty players total. It was impossible to farm more.
The chance of getting a passive skill from thousands of mobs was minuscule. He had farmed marching ants for days and still hadn’t gotten their passive, probably after killing over a hundred thousand.
The passive skill of ordinary bandits was unlikely to drop easily either. The main hope was from bosses.
Boss passives seemed a bit easier to obtain. Hopefully, another bandit leader would appear for him to fight.
