Chapter 15: Do Not Push Me Too Far, Let Me Tell You
Chapter 20: Don’t Push Me Too Far, I’m Warning You
To be perfectly honest, Su Feng regarded William as an especially insincere person. Su Feng was no naïve youngster, unaware of the ways of the world—he was someone who understood social dynamics. Yet this man named William before him seemed utterly ignorant of such things. Su Feng even began to wonder how this fellow managed to become the captain of the team.
It was something Su Feng couldn’t quite comprehend.
In a team, the captain isn’t just the leader whose word carries weight. To put it bluntly, within a club, the captain is often the second most influential figure, right after the head coach. In some teams, the captain even rallies his teammates to the point of sidelining the coach, becoming the true authority.
From what Su Feng had gathered, this William had managed to do exactly that—he’d essentially rendered the coach powerless, making himself the undisputed leader of the team. Yet, based on Su Feng’s observations, William seemed so lacking in basic social understanding that it was hard to imagine how he could pull off such a feat.
It was a puzzle Su Feng couldn’t wrap his head around.
After all, if a captain wants to neutralize the coach’s influence, he has to unite the players; otherwise, it’s impossible. No matter how capable he is, he’s still just one person, and his abilities alone aren’t enough to challenge the head coach. So, he has to win over his teammates. But looking at William’s personality, Su Feng wondered how he could ever earn their loyalty.
“Su Feng, is there something you want to say to me? You should know, I’m the captain here, so if there’s anything, now’s the time to speak up! Listen, as long as you’re willing to say it, I’ll stand up for you. You can rest assured about that.” William wore a mild smile, seemingly harmless as he looked at Su Feng.
But seeing that smile, Su Feng could only smile wryly to himself. This guy, do you think I don’t know what’s on your mind? You just want to take advantage of me, don’t you? Well, let me tell you, you’re dreaming.
Yes, dreaming... Su Feng thought William really was overthinking things.
You want to win me over? Do you think I’d fall for your tricks? No chance!
“I don’t have time to talk right now—I need to start my practice. So please, don’t disturb me, alright? I have to train, because I know this: a basketball player can only maintain his competitive edge through constant training. I doubt anyone here would argue with that. So, just leave me be, okay?” Su Feng said, waving William and Annie away.
Hearing this, William and Annie exchanged glances, their expressions twitching with annoyance. Both silently cursed Su Feng—he was clearly just showing off.
Su Feng ignored them and began his own training. Annie muttered something to William, but Su Feng didn’t need to listen to guess it was criticism about him.
But he didn’t care. Say what you want, I won’t let it bother me. Playing well and training hard—that’s what really matters.
Soon, training was over. Su Feng showered in the locker room and left the club, ready to head home.
“Su Feng... wait up!” The voice sounded like William’s.
Su Feng turned and saw, sure enough, William hurrying after him, his face anxious as if he had something urgent to say.
“Captain William, is there something you need from me?” Su Feng looked him up and down, puzzled.
“It’s about what we discussed before. So, Su Feng, still not interested?” William walked up to him, smiling with smug satisfaction.
“What was it before?” Su Feng asked, confused, meeting William’s gaze. “Captain William, what are you referring to? I don’t quite understand.”
William chuckled awkwardly. “I mean what I said at the training ground earlier. Su Feng, I think you’re a promising guy. Why not join our little group, stick together? What do you say?”
Hearing this, Su Feng understood—William was trying to recruit him. And from the tone, Su Feng could easily guess that, even if he joined William’s clique, he’d only be a peripheral member at best.
A peripheral member—a disposable pawn.
Realizing this, Su Feng shook his head. “Sorry, Captain William. I really have no interest in your offer. Sorry to disappoint you.”
William, true to his persistence, said, “Su Feng, think it over. This is a rare opportunity, you know?”
But Su Feng just shook his head. “Captain William, I know it’s a good opportunity, but I don’t think I’m the right person for it. So, I’ll pass. Sorry, I need to go home now. Apologies.”
