Chapter 15: Don’t Let Me Off So Easily

In truth, Su Feng rather enjoyed chatting with the doorman; after all, he had come to this bar many times, and it was always this young doorman he exchanged a few words with. So, Su Feng’s impression of him was quite favorable.

“All right, you get back to work. I won’t keep you any longer; I’m heading in for a drink,” Su Feng patted the doorman’s shoulder, smiling as he stepped into the bar.

“Enjoy yourself,” the young doorman replied, gazing into Su Feng’s eyes with a gentle smile.

“Such a good kid…” Su Feng grinned at the doorman.

Once inside, Su Feng suddenly sensed something was amiss in the atmosphere.

“What’s going on here?” He glanced around, but his sharp eyes found nothing out of place.

He stood there for a moment, pondering, but no explanation came to mind; so, he ventured deeper into the bar.

“Su Feng, you’re here, you Chinese fellow!” As Su Feng lingered in uncertainty, a voice suddenly sounded in his ear.

He looked up to see someone he recognized from the bar—a friend, if one were to be strict about it.

At the very least, Su Feng regarded him as a friend.

“Jonah Hux, you’re here too!” Su Feng waved cheerfully at Jonah Hux in greeting.

Jonah Hux returned the gesture with a smile and said, “Su Feng, how come you’re here? Aren’t you usually busy? Rarely do I see you in this place.”

“Hm, Jonah Hux, your words are most peculiar. Why shouldn’t I be here tonight? Sure, I’m an athlete, a basketball player, but I think I can come here if I wish, right?” Su Feng’s eyes and tone were earnest as he addressed Jonah Hux.

Jonah Hux frowned and looked Su Feng in the eye. “Su Feng, I know, I just meant you’re usually busy. I rarely see you here. But since you’re here and I’ve caught you, you must have a drink with me! Don’t turn me down, Su Feng!”

“Turn you down?” Su Feng laughed, then replied with a smile, “I have no intention of turning you down. Since you insist, I’ll accept the challenge. Running away isn’t my style, so rest assured.”

“Ha ha ha…” Jonah Hux was delighted, grinning at Su Feng. “Since you say so, you can’t back out now. Honestly, I’ve always wanted to compete with you in drinking. Did you know that?”

Su Feng smiled at Jonah Hux—this old rascal really was courting trouble.

The man dared to challenge him in drinking? If he wasn’t looking for trouble, then what was he looking for?

“Hux, don’t worry. If it’s drinking with you, I won’t flee. You can be certain of that, because I believe my drinking capacity is above yours,” Su Feng answered with complete confidence.

“Su Feng, are you looking down on me? That’s a personal attack, you know!” Hux suddenly caught on, his face darkening.

“Hux, let’s not waste words. Let’s compete! But I won’t bully you—if you drink one glass, I’ll drink double. How about that, Hux?” Su Feng raised his glass to him.

Su Feng’s provocation proved effective; Hux was clearly angered.

He raised his own glass, his voice tinged with indignation. “Su Feng, if you look down on me like this and I still can’t beat you, wouldn’t that make me useless?”

Su Feng didn’t look at Hux; instead, he stared into his own glass and said with a smile, “Let’s stop talking, Hux. Let’s settle it with drinks. Too many words are pointless, so let’s keep drinking!”

Hux shot Su Feng a glare, then raised his glass of red wine and drained it in one bold gulp. It was an impressive, heroic gesture.

“Hux, that’s so cool…” Su Feng couldn’t help but praise him, then said, “Hux, I never expected you to be so forthright. Truly unexpected! But don’t underestimate me—while I know your limits, don’t make light of mine!”

Su Feng wasn’t just talk; he mimicked Hux’s action, tilting his head back and emptying his glass in a single draught.

Watching Su Feng drink, Hux could only smile wryly—he hadn’t anticipated Su Feng’s impressive capacity. But it made sense: Su Feng was a northerner, and people from the north were known for their drinking prowess.

“Let’s keep going, Hux!” Su Feng fixed Hux with a blank expression.

“No problem, Su Feng. I won’t lose to you. If I lose to a Chinese guy like you, it’ll be embarrassing… Er, Su Feng, I mean no offense, just that losing to you in drinking would be quite humiliating.”

“It’s all right, Hux, I understand. Let’s continue!” Su Feng stared into Hux’s eyes as he spoke.
