Chapter 10: I'm Just a Basketball Player
Chapter 13: I’m Just a Basketball Player
To be honest, Su Feng’s words truly left the lovely Sophie feeling a bit flustered.
There’s no denying that basketball is quite popular in America—its influence here is much like soccer’s standing in England. So, when Su Feng mentioned that he was a basketball player, the beautiful Sophie’s eyes instantly lit up, staring at him as if she could hardly believe it.
Sophie had always been a fan of basketball—a girl who truly loved the game. In her eyes, boys who played basketball were simply the coolest.
Once she learned that Su Feng played basketball, she found herself growing more and more fond of him with each passing moment.
“Big brother, may I ask you something?” Sophie gazed intently at Su Feng for a long while before finally biting her lip, hesitating, and then speaking.
“You want to ask me something? Well, I don’t know—what do you want to ask? If you have a question, go ahead. Whether I answer really depends on what you want to know, you understand? Pretty girl.” Su Feng grinned, clearly appreciating her beauty.
He had to admit, he was a bit surprised himself. He hadn’t expected to encounter such a charming beauty as Sophie in this little restaurant. It was truly unexpected.
“I want to ask, which club do you play for? I’m really curious about that!” As Sophie asked her question, her gaze never wavered from Su Feng’s face, almost as if she were pleading with him.
Frankly, the thing Su Feng feared most in his life was being stared at by a beautiful woman. Call it sentimentality or a hero’s weakness, but he’d always been most vulnerable under the gaze of someone lovely. Especially when that someone was as pretty as Sophie—his heart turned softer, and he almost didn’t dare meet her eyes.
“All right, I’ll tell you. Listen carefully, pretty girl; I’m only saying this once. I play for the Rockets. Well? Are you disappointed?” Su Feng managed a wry smile as he spoke.
This was what made Su Feng nervous. He worried that Sophie might lose interest upon hearing he played for the Rockets—after all, the team didn’t have many fans. He couldn’t be sure whether Sophie was one of the few.
But to his surprise, Sophie’s face brightened with excitement the moment she heard he was a Rockets player. She beamed, “Really? I’m a Rockets fan too!”
“You? A Rockets fan? Am I hearing things? Are you sure?” Su Feng could hardly believe his ears. “I always thought the Rockets had very few fans, especially female fans. Are you teasing me?”
“Tease you?” Sophie gave a helpless little smile. “Why would I do that? Besides, what’s so surprising about me being a Rockets fan? You know, the Rockets are famous here in Houston! They have tons of fans. Not only me, but many of my girlfriends are fans too! You see, big brother?”
Hearing this, Su Feng was struck by the realization that the world is full of surprises.
“Is that so? You’re all Rockets fans…” Su Feng rubbed his stomach, marveling at how, even while hungry, he could end up having such a conversation with a pretty girl. Still, he decided to focus on his meal first. “Pretty girl, I’m going to eat now. Will you be watching me eat?”
Sophie simply smiled and shook her head. “Big brother, I think I’ll leave you to your food. Since I work here, I should go look after the other customers. You enjoy your meal—I’ll go tend to the guests.”
Su Feng nodded with a casual smile. “Go ahead, pretty girl, I won’t keep you.”
“Enjoy your meal!” Sophie nodded and walked toward the restaurant entrance.
“What a beautiful woman,” Su Feng murmured with a smile, watching her go.
He then turned his attention to the meal before him. It wasn’t a lavish feast, just some homestyle dishes, but after a few bites, he found the food quite good. This confirmed what he had suspected—the portly man from earlier hadn’t been a plant hired by the restaurant.
Maybe it was because he liked Sophie so much, but Su Feng believed she was a flawless, perfect woman—so even the idea of her playing such tricks seemed impossible.
Now that he’d tasted the food and found it delicious, Su Feng felt everything had come to a satisfactory conclusion.
“I’m finished,” he said, contentedly patting his stomach.
“Pretty girl, come here so I can pay!” he called out, waving to Sophie.
“Coming!” Sophie hurried over as soon as she saw him beckon.
“How much do I owe you?” Su Feng asked with a gentle smile.
