Chapter 166: The Battle for the Championship
Soon, Yixin’s fiery Blaze of Inferno reached its limit, and the final explosion shattered the earthen wall. Only then did the face-to-face confrontation among the six truly begin.
“Let’s take care of the Light Elf!” Black Feather and Ling Xiao Lei dashed toward the Light Elf, one after the other.
Yixin took charge of dealing with Reina and the Earth Mage. Earthen walls erupted from the ground, and flashes of magic from various elements intertwined across the arena. The battle instantly intensified to unprecedented levels. The audience held their breath, nerves taut with anticipation.
The earthen walls repeatedly blocked Yixin’s advance, but his unstoppable fiery fists shattered them one by one. The force of the flames pushed the Earth Mage back step by step, while Reina’s relentless lightning descended continuously. Yet, Yixin dodged every strike, holding the advantage despite being outnumbered.
“Damn it! If it weren’t for my excessive mana consumption and recovery, you wouldn’t be stealing the spotlight!” Reina cursed.
Black Feather weaved through several rapid light spear attacks. The explosions caused by the spears piercing the ground forced Ling Xiao Lei to constantly adjust her assault strategy.
At last, the Light Elf entered Ling Xiao Lei’s attack range.
She exchanged a glance with Black Feather, signaling the perfect moment to strike. Black Feather swung his staff and leaped before the Light Elf, instinctively ready to unleash a magical light slash but restrained himself. Instead, he clenched the trident staff tightly, its tip aimed at the shield the Light Elf held before him.
“Shadow Web! Twilight Chant—Silence!”
Simultaneously, Ling Xiao Lei transformed the invisible sensory net beneath her feet into a capturing snare and suddenly tightened it, enveloping the Light Elf. Immediately, a mark of silence landed on him.
The Light Elf, shield in his left hand, froze mid-action. The shield was abruptly shattered by the tip of Black Feather’s trident. Following that, a sweeping strike upon landing sent the Light Elf flying out of the arena.
Their tacit and precise teamwork had taken down an enemy with a single blow. Just as they breathed a sigh of relief, the enemy counterattack arrived.
Reina and the Earth Mage, seeing their teammate attacked, immediately targeted the lone and isolated Ling Xiao Lei at the rear.
Reina held Yixin in check, while the Earth Mage—with his bulky, heavy frame—closed in on Ling Xiao Lei. His height and long legs gave him a stride longer than most.
Ling Xiao Lei saw his right hand swell several times larger, his fist turning into solid rock. With a heavy strike, it descended like a mountain shadow blocking out the light before her eyes. A whirlwind whipped around his fist as it drove toward her face.
Her hairs stood on end. Instinctively, she conjured a barrier to block the blow. But the force was beyond imagination; the barrier shattered instantly, and the gust beneath her feet nearly knocked her to the ground.
“Giant’s Fist!” the Earth Mage roared.
Black Feather, who had fully focused on knocking the Light Elf away moments ago and still had his back to Ling Xiao Lei, suddenly felt a chilling gust sweep past him. A strong sense of foreboding gripped him.
At the critical moment, Yixin had already unleashed a flame from his hands, chasing after the Earth Mage.
Like a mantis stalking a cicada, unaware of the oriole behind, Reina, who had been pursuing Yixin, would never let this chance slip. She immediately struck, unleashing her ultimate move without hesitation.
Raising her staff high, a golden phoenix soared into the sky and fiercely crashed down upon her opponent.
“Phoenix Soaring Cry!”
From the stands, Bai Shengye’s face turned pale with tension as he shouted, “Yixin, watch your back!”
He knew the power of this move—it was Reina’s strongest kill technique. If Yixin were caught off guard, the consequences would be dire.
Just as the Earth Mage’s rocky giant fist was about to smash into Ling Xiao Lei, and the lightning phoenix gleamed menacingly behind, Yixin halted his steps, caught between two dangers. Yet he made a swift decision.
He focused one hand’s flames toward the Earth Mage while splitting off another stream of fire to confront Reina.
Reina’s confident smirk deepened. Even if Yixin split his flames, their power must have diminished. Her lightning phoenix would surely deliver a devastating blow.
But at the very moment her phoenix collided with Yixin’s fire, her eyes widened in shock.
“What? Splitting power into two streams and still this strong!”
The flames pierced through the phoenix’s body in an instant, scorching a hole through it, yet the fire surged straight toward Reina, carrying an unstoppable momentum.
The move struck both the Earth Mage and Reina simultaneously, hurling them yards away to the edge of the arena.
Black Feather turned around and saw the battle shift in an instant. Yixin’s speed in unleashing flames far outpaced the Earth Mage’s attack. Without hesitation, Black Feather charged the bulky Earth Mage beside him and struck with “Temporal Blast,” blasting him thoroughly out of the arena.
Unfortunately, despite the phoenix being pierced by flames, the residual energy of Reina’s “Phoenix Soaring Cry” still barreled toward Yixin. The phoenix dove headfirst, releasing boundless lightning that exploded on the ground and struck Yixin.
The thunder roared continuously, dazzling sparks blinding all eyes. Yixin’s body was soon ripped and battered.
Black Feather shouted, “Yixin!”
The Saint City team below held their breath, hearts pounding in their throats.
In mere moments, a series of breathtaking scenes left the audience stunned. No wonder this was a duel among elite fighters—peril and brilliance intertwined. In an instant, the Royal Magic Academy had lost two contestants, while the remaining fighters pressed on.
As the dazzling lightning faded from the arena, Yixin coughed up a mouthful of blood and struggled to rise, battered and bruised. Black Feather stepped forward to support him but was roughly pushed away.
“Stand back!”
His fury had reached its peak as he fixed his gaze on the lone opponent standing on the field: Reina.
Though Yixin was gravely wounded, the trio from Saint City held the numerical advantage.
Reina stood alone but wore a savage, arrogant smile, utterly disdainful of her adversaries.
“Whether you’re one or three, it makes no difference. Mediocre fools like you—no matter how many—are no match for me, Reina!”
“Three against one, the outcome’s certain. Let’s go all in!” Ling Xiao Lei whispered beside Yixin.
“Both of you, fall back,” Yixin stepped forward, crossing his staff before him. “The potion Bai Shengye gave us has worn off. From now on, it’s a fair fight. Whether the lightning of the Thunder Clan is stronger, or my flames are mightier—I’ve long wanted to find out. Dare you face me one-on-one?”
“Hahaha!” Reina sneered sharply, “Overestimating yourself! The Thunder Clan is the strongest family on the continent—a fact universally acknowledged and unchangeable. Don’t delude yourself into thinking you can surpass even one of them!”
As she spoke, a golden phoenix once again rose from behind her. “Phoenix Soaring Cry!”
Black Feather and Ling Xiao Lei understood Yixin’s nature and obediently retreated.
Yixin raised his staff to meet Reina’s strike. Though she was a realm above him, he refused to yield.
“Blazing Inferno!”
