Chapter 156: The Third Round of the Competition
Yixin said again, “As long as we can block their move, victory will be within our grasp. At the same time, once Divine Sovereign Guo activates her defense, we must counterattack immediately to disrupt the enemy’s assault. Under no circumstances can she be injured.”
“Agreed!” everyone said in unison.
Baisheng Ye lay on a nearby bed, listening to the discussion. He propped himself up and said, “I remember seeing the Light Elf Queen Lingge on the Great Wall battlefield. She had a powerful skill that could both launch a wide-range attack and simultaneously heal all allies.”
Lingmeng’s reply eased his worries: “That’s the Radiance of Holy Light. Even among the royal bloodline, few can wield it. The opponents we face tomorrow shouldn’t have it. Most Light Elves can only perform single-target healing, with speed depending on their cultivation level. The most formidable is instantaneous healing.”
Only then did Baisheng Ye feel reassured, for the move he witnessed on the battlefield that day was overwhelmingly powerful.
Yixin said, “It’s settled then. Tomorrow, I’ll be the main force, Divine Sovereign Guo handles defense, Lingxiao Lei will keep them restrained, and Lingmeng will assist. The Light Elves have the advantage in attack and movement speed. We’ll first drain their mana, and when they unleash the Divine Judgment, that’s when we strike back!”
Hei Yu suddenly felt left out and said, “Wait, why wasn’t I included?”
Yixin barely glanced at him, impatience in his voice, “What can you do?”
“I... I won the second round!” Hei Yu protested.
“Tomorrow, when your teammates are in danger, you can rush in and be a human shield,” Yixin retorted.
“I...!” Hei Yu was so angry steam seemed to rise from his head.
In truth, Yixin was considering using Hei Yu’s unexpected moves as a trump card against the Royal Magic Academy in the finals, so it was best not to reveal his strength too early.
Baisheng Ye said, “Don’t forget about me either; I can still play tomorrow.”
“We’ll see how your recovery goes. Everyone rest early today and save your energy.”
The next day, only four teams remained on the battlefield. The Holy City Team went out first. Up to now, the remaining teams were the cream of the crop, intensifying the crowd’s enthusiasm — after all, the champion would emerge from among them.
“Come on! Win this round and enter the finals!” The six placed their hands together and shouted in unison, “For Holy City!”
Opposite them, the six Light Elves prepared to enter the arena. All were beautiful young women with graceful figures, each radiating an ethereal, otherworldly aura.
Baisheng Ye was dazzled, nearly nosebleeding. “Wow! So many beauties! I’ll probably hesitate to attack!”
Divine Sovereign Guo and Lingmeng stood to Baisheng Ye’s left, with Lingmeng primarily responsible for healing Divine Sovereign Guo’s wounds during defense. Lingxiao Lei stood on the right wing beside Hei Yu. Yixin stood in the center.
The opposing Light Elves transformed their staffs into bows and arrows, five forming a circle, while a tall girl stood in the middle behind them. She appeared oldest, her golden hair intricately coiled atop her head.
At this stage in the competition, for all members to remain meant each was formidable.
Lingmeng said, “The one in the center must be their support mage. We need to target her first to prevent her from buffing her teammates.”
“Got it.”
Everyone nodded in understanding. Yixin gripped his Flame Staff, flames flickering at its tip, ready to unleash a charged strike.
“Leave it to me!”
The announcer changed into dazzling attire, raised the microphone, and declared, “Ladies and gentlemen! This match is crucial. The victor will secure a place in the finals! Who will advance? Let’s wait and see. Now — let the match begin!”
No sooner had the words fallen than both teams sprang into action.
“Flame Impact!”
Right from the start, Yixin gave the opponents no breathing room, launching a powerful, swift attack. Raging flames surged toward the five Light Elves and their support behind.
“Light Barrier!”
The five Light Elves seemed to have anticipated the assault on their support, raising an impenetrable transparent shield almost simultaneously with Yixin’s attack.
Yet the flames were so fierce that even with all five shields combined, the barrier shattered instantly. The fire had already reached the supporting member behind.
The support leapt lightly upward, spinning midair as blossoms blossomed around her in a magnificent display. She dodged the flames beneath and immediately cast several buff spells:
“Speed Boost, Strength Boost, Attack Speed Boost, Defense Boost... A Thousand Blossoms!”
“Uh-oh, Thousand Blossoms is an all-attribute enhancement lasting ten minutes. This support isn’t ordinary!” Lingmeng said.
Beams of light descended onto her teammates. They left behind the broken barrier and sprinted forward at high speed. Each bow now held five to ten light arrows, releasing volley after volley during their runs. The arrow storm was overwhelming, with doubled attack power thanks to the buffs.
Failing to stop the support, the Holy City Magic Academy team was forced onto the defensive. Lingmeng quickly cast shields over her teammates.
Yixin formed a fiery barrier with his Wildfire Blaze, the blazing flames heating the surroundings, but they couldn’t block the incoming light arrows.
“The attack frequency is so fast!” they exclaimed.
Baisheng Ye’s ice wall blocked frontal attacks effectively, but the Light Elves aimed their arrows skyward, raining down from above. Pressured, the Holy City team retreated to one side of the arena, desperately wielding their staffs in defense.
Yixin swung another fire attack, but the Light Elves, empowered by the buffs, dodged with incredible speed, easily evading the flame’s path. While running swiftly, they fired their arrows with precision.
Yixin’s attacks couldn’t land a hit nor slow their assault.
“This is bad. We’re stuck on the defensive now,” Baisheng Ye said.
The arrow storm was too dense, leaving little chance for counterattacks. The Light Elves formed a tightening ring, their momentum fierce, pushing the Holy City team backward. Meanwhile, their support kept continuously boosting their mana.
“I thought Light Elves were only good at support. Didn’t expect their light arrows to be so strong,” Hei Yu said.
“Hold on a little longer. The Thousand Blossoms buff will expire soon. It consumes enormous mana, and since she’s only an intermediate mage, she probably can’t cast it again so soon!” Lingmeng said.
