Chapter 142: One Against Three
"Hmph, I really can't stand their self-righteous attitude," Lingxiaolei remarked.
Returning to the arena, the host had already announced the start of the match. The red-haired youth, having bottled up his frustration and desperate to reclaim some dignity for his team, let out a fierce cry. "Blood sacrifice to the sword!" he shouted, drawing his blade and charging forward.
The Dragon Clan had long enjoyed the reputation of being war gods, often hailed as all-around warriors. Watching the duel, Shenzaiguo found herself leaning toward the Dragon Clan, hoping for their victory, while intently studying their techniques to gain practical combat experience.
Reyno, the one who had boasted so arrogantly, wore a look of relaxed confidence, even a faint smile playing on his lips. With his left hand behind his back and his right hand brandishing a magic wand, he summoned bolts of lightning from the heavens. The massive area of effect was terrifying; the lightning spread in a fan shape across half the arena, leaving his opponent with nowhere to hide.
Just as he had claimed, he had no need to swap out his teammates, nor had he ever intended to move from his spot. Even while maintaining a single stance from beginning to end, he remained confident that he could easily dispose of all three opponents.
The Dragon Clan warrior charged forward with commendable courage and indomitable will, but the ever-intensifying voltage coursing through his body finally crushed his proud self-esteem completely.
From the spectator stands, Black Feather and the others heard whispers from behind them: "The Thunder Family is truly powerful," and "They are worthy of being called the strongest family on the continent."
Hearing these comments, Yixin felt a deep sense of indignation. Black Feather, sitting beside him, could feel the fury radiating from him, his aura rippling outward like invisible waves. He squeezed a sentence through his gritted teeth:
"When did the Thunder family become the strongest on the continent? It’s clearly the Red Flame family!"
The red-haired youth was defeated quickly, failing even to get close to Reyno. His entire body was entangled in paralyzing lightning as he was helped off the stage.
Reyno immediately mocked them: "To those on the other side, I suggest you surrender now, lest you suffer twice more!"
A long-haired girl heard this, cast a glare of pure hatred, and stepped onto the stage. "Let me take the next one!"
Although she was not of the Dragon Clan’s royal bloodline, her lineage was purer than the previous two. Within the blood used to consecrate her sword, a faint aura of the Holy Dragon shimmered; in the blood mist, the hazy form of a fire dragon unfurled its wings and took to the sky.
As soon as she entered the fray, her offensive was fierce. Every strike carried the momentum of a dragon soaring through the heavens. Her vertical strikes were like a fire dragon spitting flames from the air, unstoppable; her horizontal slashes were like a dragon’s tail sweeping across an army, impossible for thousands to defend against; her thrusts were like the swift, vicious strikes of dragon claws...
Faced with such an onslaught, even Reyno could no longer stand calmly in place. He began to move rapidly across the arena, nimbly dodging the fiery, wrathful sword energy, yet the intensity of the lightning in his hands never waned.
Below the stage, Reina sneered, "Hmph, clumsy Dragon Clan, they only know how to use brute force."
Once Reyno began to move, his speed became as fast as lightning itself. Like a cheetah sprinting through a storm, he skimmed the outer edge of the circular arena, circling the entire field in the blink of an eye. The Dragon Clan warrior behind him couldn't keep up at all.
Among all the schools of magic, only the Wind and Lightning elements significantly boost one's speed through cultivation.
By now, his figure was so fast that the audience could no longer track his location, causing them to rub their eyes and stand up to search for him.
The Dragon Clan warrior on the stage was spun in circles; despite having formidable attack power, she had no target to strike. She could only chase after Reyno, continuously bombarded by his lightning, unable to land a single blow.
Shenzaiguo stomped her feet in anxiety. "Oh no, this sister clearly has a better chance than the previous fighter—is there really no way for her to win?"
The Dragon Clan teammates below were equally anxious but could do nothing to help.
Although the Dragon Clan's defensive capabilities were potent—especially after the blood sacrifice, which made their bodies as sturdy as iron walls—they could not withstand the relentless assault of lightning forever.
When another bolt of lightning descended from the sky, the female warrior swung her greatsword toward the heavens, instantly forming a circular shield of sword energy above her head. It unfolded like dragon wings to deflect the attack, but her hands were left bleeding, scorched by the electricity.
Watching her techniques, Shenzaiguo imitated the motions, learning many tricks from the display.
Seeing her panting, Reyno knew she couldn't last much longer. He intensified the lightning, which now rained down from all sides of the sky.
This time, even with her sword energy, she couldn't hold it back. The converging lightning surged through her body, and she collapsed heavily onto the ground.
Reyno stopped and retracted his magic. He wasn't showing mercy to his fallen opponent; he was merely managing his own dwindling mana, though he maintained a composed facade as if disposing of two contestants had been a mere trifle.
By the time the third Dragon Clan warrior stepped up, his blood sacrifice was interrupted mid-transformation by a bolt of lightning from Reyno.
After that, his morale completely shattered. Not only was he repeatedly struck by lightning while attempting basic attacks, but even his ultimate trump cards were easily dodged by Reyno, ultimately leading to his tragic elimination.
Reyno’s spectacular three-on-one victory brought great fame to the Royal Magic Academy. The team's arrogant attitude, meanwhile, needed no further pretense.
The host exclaimed excitedly: "That… that was incredible! Perfect attack power and speed—truly worthy of the Thunder Family! A rare three-on-one victory in the history of the Magic Tournament! The Royal Magic Academy—all members qualify!"
Shenzaiguo felt deep regret over the result and said indignantly, "When we have to face this guy, let me go up! I want to settle this score for the Dragon Clan!"
Yixin consoled her, "Don't be impulsive. There will definitely be a chance for revenge, and when the time comes, we will all help you vent your anger."
Lingxiaolei possessed keen perception. While other teams lost hope of winning after witnessing the might of the Royal Magic Academy, she carefully observed something:
"Hasn't Reyno's mana already been exhausted?"
Her words caught everyone's attention.
"So he's just a paper tiger, putting on a show," Bai Shengye said, waving his hand. As someone skilled in medicine, he, too, immediately noticed the fatigue in Reyno's posture.
Yixin analyzed, "Actually, by the third match, Reyno's mana should have been nearly drained. If the third Dragon Clan contestant had held on just a little longer, he certainly could have found a flaw, and they wouldn't have suffered three consecutive losses. It’s a pity; by the time the third person went up, his mindset had already collapsed."
Bai Shengye asked him, "So, what do you think his true strength is?"
