Chapter 95: Divorce
Descending the stairs and leaving the residential complex where Gao Xiaoqin’s apartment was located, Jiang Hao casually hailed a taxi and returned to his own villa.
He had not slept a wink the entire night, yet he did not feel tired. However, to forgo sleep is certainly at odds with the habits of ordinary people, so while his body was not fatigued, Jiang Hao’s mind felt a trace of weariness.
He planned to have some breakfast and then take a brief nap in his room, just to make up for the lost sleep.
For the following twenty days, Jiang Hao spent all his time in his villa, either cultivating or studying the preparation methods of various medicines and poisons.
By now, he had truly become a master physician and an expert in the use of poison!
If before there might have been illnesses in the world that he could not cure, after so much dedicated study, his medical skills had reached such a terrifying level that perhaps no disease could ever trouble him again.
Meanwhile, with so much time having passed, the day for the Su family to repay their debt was drawing near.
Jiang Hao intended to call them tonight to remind them, but unexpectedly, as dusk settled, Su Qingli arrived.
Jiang Hao invited Su Qingli inside and had her sit on the living room sofa before asking, “Here to repay the money? I thought it would be Madam Su herself; I didn’t expect it to be you. It seems your family finds it too humiliating to come here themselves, so they’ve sent you to suffer the disgrace.”
The Su family owed Jiang Hao twenty million yuan; repaying such a sum was hardly a cause for celebration. And in a prominent family, saving face is everything—they must consider it a great humiliation to come and settle the debt with Jiang Hao.
So, neither the old matriarch nor Su Tianming came; it was Su Qingli who arrived. This was not unexpected.
“Yes, I’m here for my humiliation. If you intend to insult me, make it quick,” Su Qingli said calmly.
Jiang Hao was taken aback, sensing that something was off about Su Qingli’s mood today.
Whenever she had come to him before, she always seemed determined, striving to repair the relationship between Jiang Hao and the Su family, hoping to reclaim their marriage and rekindle their bond.
But today, Su Qingli’s demeanor was cold and indifferent.
“Forget it, I’m not in the mood to mock you, nor is there any need,” Jiang Hao sighed, speaking with a detached air.
Su Qingli said nothing more. She picked up her handbag and took out a bank card.
“There are twenty million in this card. The password is the last six digits of your ID number.”
Jiang Hao accepted the card. “Alright, I accept this twenty million. From now on, your Su family owes me nothing.”
But to his surprise, Su Qingli produced yet another item.
It was a document, printed on two sheets of A4 paper, with several bold characters stamped at the top.
Divorce Agreement!
Jiang Hao truly had not expected that Su Qingli would take the initiative to print out divorce papers!
Moreover, she had already filled in all her required information on both copies.
“You want to divorce me?” Jiang Hao was surprised, though not shocked, for they had long since come to this point.
But then, Su Qingli’s eyes reddened. She rubbed them with her hand before saying, “You’re the one who wanted the divorce! Since you’re so determined, I won’t cling to you. Let’s end it.”
“Our Su family has now paid you back every penny we owed. As for the remaining hundred million, we’ll repay it directly to the Bai family. There’s nothing left between us. Since that’s the case, there’s nothing more to discuss. Let’s get divorced today.”
“Sign here, fill out what you need to, and then we’ll take the agreement to process the divorce.”
She rubbed her eyes once more as she finished speaking.
Her eyes were red and swollen, giving the impression of someone who had been hurt beyond measure.
Jiang Hao looked at Su Qingli sitting on the sofa, and after a brief silence, he finally said, “Alright, let’s do it.”
Without delay, Jiang Hao quickly filled in all his required information.
Then the two of them left the living room together.
Jiang Hao drove over his newly repaired Bugatti Veyron, opened the car door, and asked, “Shall we go?”
But Su Qingli stood silently beside the car.
Jiang Hao frowned. “Do you want to walk there? Fine, in that case, I’ll go ahead and wait for you at the divorce registration office.”
With that, he closed the car door and drove the car out of the eastern suburbs villa.
At the divorce registration office.
Jiang Hao parked the car at the roadside and leaned against it, smoking one cigarette after another.
He had wanted to divorce Su Qingli for a long time.
She had always refused in the past, but now she had agreed at last.
Yet, at this moment, Jiang Hao found no joy in it.
After half an hour, Jiang Hao reached for his cigarette pack only to find it empty—the entire box had been smoked, and the stub tray of the nearby trash bin was already overflowing with his cigarette butts.
It was then that Su Qingli stepped out of a taxi and quickly walked over to him.
But as she passed him, she didn’t stop, heading straight toward the hall where the divorce formalities were processed.
Jiang Hao didn’t call after her but simply followed her inside.
“We’re about to get divorced—don’t you have anything to say?” Jiang Hao asked once they’d entered the hall.
Su Qingli turned to look at him. “What do you want me to say? Aren’t you the one who’s been clamoring for a divorce? What, have you changed your mind now?”
“I just find it strange—why, after refusing all this time, have you suddenly made up your mind today?”
At last, Jiang Hao asked the question that had been nagging him.
It was not that he was unwilling to divorce Su Qingli; he just found the abrupt turnaround inexplicable.
Su Qingli gave a cold laugh, wiped away the tears welling in her eyes with the back of her hand, and said, “At first, I really didn’t want to divorce you. Even though you’ve been so cold to me since that incident, I thought you simply misunderstood me, that you were just angry.”
“But later, I realized I was wrong.”
“You’re living with the Bai family’s young lady, and you’re involved with Manager Gao from Bifeng Bank—clearly, you have no feelings for me anymore.”
“If that’s the case, I won’t cling to you any longer.”
“Let’s end it, Jiang Hao. Let’s get divorced now!”
As soon as she finished, Su Qingli turned and walked toward the divorce window.
Jiang Hao stood frozen where he was.
So, it was these two matters that had finally convinced Su Qingli to go through with the divorce.
But now, it was she who had misunderstood Jiang Hao.
It was true that he lived with Bai Tianyu, but it was not cohabitation—merely sharing the same roof.
As for being involved with Gao Xiaoqin, the general manager of Bifeng Bank, that was simply impossible!
Yet Jiang Hao did not explain.
A misunderstanding, then let it be a misunderstanding.
What good would it do to clarify things now?
Would it stop them from getting divorced?
