Chapter 79: The Eldest Young Master of the Qian Family
"Still haven't found anything you like?" Jiang Hao asked helplessly.
"We've barely walked for any time at all and you're already tired? Men are really useless," Bai Tianyu criticized bluntly.
A short-haired saleswoman nearby heard Jiang Hao and Bai Tianyu's exchange and couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Bai Tianyu turned to look, her eyes lighting up with delight as she pointed at a white dress hanging on the rack. "Jiang Hao, what do you think of this one?"
"It looks good," Jiang Hao replied immediately.
Bai Tianyu was dissatisfied, her voice unhappy. "Can't you be a bit more serious? You're so perfunctory—do you just not care about me at all?"
Care about you?
Who do you think you are to me?
Jiang Hao grumbled inwardly, but of course, he didn't dare say such things aloud. If he did, this heiress of the Bai family would surely throw a tantrum.
The saleswoman came over and said, "Miss, you have excellent taste. This dress is the most popular style in Maple Leaf City this year! White suits your temperament perfectly—if you wear it, you'll look even more beautiful!"
"Really?" Bai Tianyu hurriedly took the dress from the rack and rushed into the fitting room.
Jiang Hao pulled over a chair and sat down to wait.
"Shopping with your girlfriend must be exhausting, right?" the saleswoman said warmly, trying to make conversation.
Jiang Hao felt a little awkward and clarified, "You misunderstand; she's not my girlfriend."
If Bai Tianyu were his girlfriend, he would've given her a piece of his mind long ago.
"Oh, sorry—then, is she your sister?" the saleswoman asked.
"She's not my sister," Jiang Hao shook his head.
The saleswoman, puzzled, pressed on, "Then who is she to you? What's your relationship?"
"Does it matter?" Jiang Hao replied.
Realizing she had overstepped, the saleswoman quickly apologized, "Sorry, I didn't mean it, I—"
Before she finished, Bai Tianyu emerged from the fitting room.
She had taken off Jiang Hao's T-shirt and jeans, replacing them with the white dress. It had to be said: the dress suited her perfectly. Standing there, she looked elegant and poised, like a white lotus blooming on a lake.
"Absolutely stunning! Miss, you look incredible in this dress. If I were a man, I'd be utterly captivated!" the saleswoman gushed, lavishing praise.
Bai Tianyu, pleased, walked over and spun in front of Jiang Hao. "Well? Isn't it nice?"
"Yes, yes, it's very nice," Jiang Hao nodded, then stood up to ask, "How much is the dress?"
"Three thousand six hundred, sir," the saleswoman replied with a smile.
Jiang Hao was stunned.
Three thousand six hundred?
A single dress for three thousand six hundred?
The T-shirt, jeans, socks, and sneakers he was wearing altogether barely cost three hundred. The difference was staggering.
No wonder women's money is so easy to earn!
Bai Tianyu, meanwhile, exclaimed dramatically, "What? Three thousand six hundred? That's so cheap!"
The saleswoman was delighted, her tone warm. "Our clothes focus on affordability and value. Since you find it inexpensive, perhaps you'd like to buy a few more?"
"I—" Bai Tianyu began, but Jiang Hao had already pulled out his wallet, paid, and pulled her aside.
"We agreed you'd only buy one outfit. Want more? Miss Bai, you're the heiress of the Bai family; you can't go back on your word," Jiang Hao said earnestly.
Bai Tianyu gave up on buying more, though she looked unhappy and muttered, "You're so stingy. My father gave you sixty million for curing my grandfather's illness. Even after buying a car for ten million, you still have fifty million left. Is it really necessary to be so frugal?"
Though Bai Tianyu was whispering, Jiang Hao heard every word. He kept his expression unchanged, pretending not to notice.
After paying, Jiang Hao led Bai Tianyu out of the clothing section.
They had agreed she could buy one outfit, so now they headed to the shoe section.
Looking at the dazzling array of high heels on the shelves, Bai Tianyu's eyes sparkled with excitement.
Checking the price tags, she exaggerated again, "All these shoes are so cheap. Is everything in Maple Leaf City so inexpensive?"
Jiang Hao glanced over—none of the shoes were under a thousand.
Cheap? Cheap your foot!
Jiang Hao cursed inwardly, then said, "We agreed you'd only buy one outfit. Pick one pair; don't buy more."
"Fine, fine, you're so annoying—stingy to the core!" Bai Tianyu made a face at him, stuck out her tongue, then eagerly began choosing shoes.
Watching her pick shoes, Jiang Hao was filled with emotion. Truly, the higher a woman's status, the harder she is to support. It's best to marry someone from a similar background—how true those words are.
Soon, Bai Tianyu picked out a pair of white high heels.
They cost nearly two thousand. Just seeing the price made Jiang Hao's heart ache, but he still paid for them.
Bai Tianyu, meanwhile, sat proudly on a bench, stretched out her feet, and pointed at the shoes. "Come here, help me change."
Jiang Hao resisted the urge to curse, kneeling to help Bai Tianyu change her shoes.
Looking at her soft, flawless feet, Jiang Hao couldn't help but ask, "I'm really curious—what kind of life did you live before? Did you have a whole entourage of servants waiting on you every day?"
"Not quite, but definitely better than you," Bai Tianyu laughed.
Jiang Hao didn't reply. He took the shoes and slipped them onto Bai Tianyu's feet. Just then, a man's voice spoke from beside them.
"My fiancée isn't easy to please, is she? Perhaps I should take over?"
Jiang Hao looked up, and a young man came into view.
He appeared to be in his early twenties, and his looks were striking—almost excessively so.
He stood quietly, yet carried an air of elegance and grace, as if the leading man from a television drama had stepped right out of the screen and into real life.
"Qian Youwei, is that you!" Bai Tianyu exclaimed in surprise.
Qian Youwei?
Could this young man be the marriage prospect arranged for Bai Tianyu by Bai Qiming—the eldest son of the Qian family, Qian Youwei?
Thinking this, Jiang Hao immediately put down the high heels and stood up with a smile. "Your fiancée truly is hard to please—I was nearly worn out. Since you're here, I'll leave her to you. The rest is none of my concern."
With that, Jiang Hao turned and walked away.
