Chapter 56: Not the Slightest Connection
“Since Mr. Jiang has decided not to pursue the matter, let’s leave it at that.” Then, Zhao Ziyun turned and glared angrily at the saleswoman, saying, “For Mr. Jiang’s sake, I’ll let you off this time. But if you ever make a mistake like this again, pack your things and get out of the company!”
“Yes, I understand!” The saleswoman’s face turned deathly pale, her eyes brimming with tears as she spoke, trembling.
At that moment, the entire Su family was stunned. It was already shocking enough that this villa belonged to Jiang Hao, but now the illustrious Zhao Ziyun, heir to the powerful Zhao family, had personally come to apologize to Jiang Hao—this was simply unbelievable!
Who was Zhao Ziyun? He was the future head of the Zhao family, the heir to Zhao Real Estate Group, controlling assets worth billions. Such a man was a towering figure in Maple Leaf City. Ordinary people couldn’t even hope to meet him, let alone associate with him.
Yet now Zhao Ziyun was treating Jiang Hao with such respect. The Su family could not help but be astounded.
With Zhao Ziyun present, none of the Su family dared to make a fuss. Each one stood as meekly as a child, not daring to utter a word. Even Su Tianming shrank back, standing quietly, barely daring to breathe.
“Mr. Jiang, I truly apologize. This was our company’s mistake. I’ll make sure to invite you for a drink to properly express my regret another day,” Zhao Ziyun said with a friendly smile.
“It’s nothing, don’t give it another thought,” Jiang Hao replied coolly.
After a few polite words, Zhao Ziyun took his beautiful secretary and left, along with the saleswoman who had led the Su family to view the house.
Once Zhao Ziyun had gone, the Su family finally let out a collective sigh of relief, tension draining from their faces.
Jiang Hao took a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one, took a deep drag, and then exhaled a thick cloud of smoke before speaking in a detached tone, “Isn’t it about time you all left? Or do you still have more to say?”
“Jiang Hao, I’m sorry, we…” Su Qingli instinctively tried to apologize, but before he could finish, Zhang Liping suddenly jumped in.
“I never imagined you’d amount to anything, Jiang Hao! Where did you get so much money to buy this villa?”
Jiang Hao shot Zhang Liping a cold glare and replied bluntly, “How I came to have the money to buy a villa has nothing to do with you. I’ll buy whatever villa I please—what business is it of yours?”
At this, Zhang Liping’s face darkened immediately.
“I’m your mother-in-law! How can you, as my son-in-law, speak to me like that?”
“So you still remember you’re my mother-in-law? If that’s true, then why did you treat me like a dog all these years, never showing me a kind face? What mother-in-law in the world acts as you do?” Jiang Hao retorted icily.
Fortunately, Jiang Hao had enough self-restraint, or else he might have unleashed a torrent of curses at Zhang Liping right then. Even so, his words left her speechless, her face flushed with anger and humiliation, her eyes filled with resentment and malice.
Suddenly, Su Bingming spoke up, “Jiang Hao, watch your tone. No matter what, you and Qingli haven’t divorced yet. Liping and I are still your parents-in-law!”
“That’s right!”
“This brat is nothing but a thankless wretch. Our Su family supported him for so many years for nothing!”
“Since they haven’t divorced, if Jiang Hao bought this villa, then half of it belongs to Qingli!”
“Yes, yes, half of this villa is Qingli’s!”
With these words, the room erupted in an uproar.
Su Tianming immediately strode up to Su Qingli and said, “Qingli, since this villa belongs to you and Jiang Hao, how about letting your grandmother move in?”
Jiang Hao could hardly believe the shamelessness of the Su family. Not only were they claiming half the villa belonged to Su Qingli, but they even wanted the old matriarch to move in.
How could anyone be so brazen?
But Su Qingli was well aware of her position. She shook her head and replied, “The villa belongs to Jiang Hao. You’ll have to ask him.”
Su Tianming’s face soured at once. He shot Su Qingli a glare, then turned to Jiang Hao.
But before he could speak, Jiang Hao stubbed out his cigarette and slowly shook his head.
“You want the old lady to move into my villa? Do you really believe this place belongs to your Su family? Su Tianming, surely you don’t actually think you own half this villa?”
Jiang Hao’s words, dripping with sarcasm, sent Su Tianming into a rage.
“What, am I wrong? Since you and Su Qingli aren’t divorced, according to our country’s laws, this villa is joint property! And since Su Qingli is part of our family, of course we own half!”
“That’s right!”
“Tianming is right, half this villa belongs to us!”
The Su family members all began shouting at once.
Jiang Hao replied coldly, “Is that really what the law says? You don’t know the law, yet you act like it’s your birthright. I almost pity you.”
Su Qingli hesitated, then stepped forward and said, “Jiang Hao, can’t you let it go… We’re all family…”
“Family? When did any of you Su family members ever treat me as family? Su Qingli, don’t you think your words are ridiculous?” Jiang Hao could suppress his anger no longer; it burst forth in a roar.
“Su Qingli, we’ve been married for years, but have we ever shared a bed? Have we ever been husband and wife in truth? What makes you think you’re my wife, or that you deserve half of what’s mine?” he shouted.
Su Qingli’s face turned deathly pale. She quickly shook her head, “Jiang Hao, that’s not what I meant…”
But Jiang Hao wasn’t listening. He whirled around and glared at Su Bingming and Zhang Liping, shouting with fury, “Su Bingming, Zhang Liping, you’ve treated me like a dog, even tried to harm me. What right do you have to call yourselves my parents-in-law? In your eyes, I’m worth less than a dog!”
“And you, Su Tianming, who are you scowling at? Do you think you can intimidate me? Let me make it clear: this villa, and everything in it, belongs to me alone. It has nothing to do with your Su family, not even a penny!”
“Want to live in my villa? Keep dreaming!”
“I’d sooner take in a pack of stray dogs than let any of you move in!”
Jiang Hao’s furious outburst left the Su family members looking utterly humiliated. Even Su Tianming, usually the most shameless and domineering, was at a loss for words.
At that moment, Su Tianming’s phone suddenly rang loudly.
He answered, and his expression changed dramatically, his hand trembling as he held the phone.
“What? Our family’s medicinal herb warehouse is on fire!”
