Chapter 50: A Matter of a Single Word
“So he’s the son-in-law who married into the Su family, the infamous freeloader of Maple Leaf City, Jiang Hao! I’ve heard of him!” The woman spoke with excitement, then immediately shot Jiang Hao a look of utter disdain.
“I never expected to see him here. He’s just as down and out as the rumors say—what a disgrace.”
Hearing these words, Jiang Hao’s anger flared even more. Who did this woman think she was, appearing out of nowhere and daring to mock him to his face?
On what grounds?
Perhaps she was the so-called ‘average Jane’ everyone talked about.
Su Tianming clung tightly to the woman, his expression arrogant as he addressed Jiang Hao. “Jiang Hao, let me introduce you. This is my girlfriend, Chen Yushan. She’s from our Maple Leaf City—”
As Su Tianming introduced the woman named Chen Yushan, she wore a haughty expression, playing right along. But Jiang Hao coldly cut him off.
“Sorry, who she is or what she is to you has nothing to do with me. I’m not the least bit interested.”
Su Tianming’s face darkened at once.
Chen Yushan looked thoroughly displeased. After sizing Jiang Hao up, she lifted her chin and sneered, “Well, you don’t amount to much, but your temper’s something else! You’re just a son-in-law living off your wife, Maple Leaf City’s notorious kept man. Who do you think you are, acting so arrogant?”
“I think it’s perfectly appropriate,” Jiang Hao replied coolly.
With that, Jiang Hao supported the elderly woman beside him and started to walk away. He had no interest in bickering with Su Tianming. In his eyes, Su Tianming was no different than a pile of dog filth, and he wasn’t about to waste his time on that.
But after only a few steps, Su Tianming pulled Chen Yushan in front of Jiang Hao, blocking his way.
“Jiang Hao, watch your mouth! Do you even know your place? What gives you the right to speak to me like that?” Su Tianming barked coldly.
Jiang Hao’s expression remained calm, his tone indifferent. “I’m speaking to you this way—what are you going to do about it?”
“You… Do you believe I won’t call Su Qingli right now and have her come here to divorce you?” Su Tianming threatened viciously.
“Go ahead, call her. I’d be more than happy to divorce her immediately,” Jiang Hao replied with a smile.
He wasn’t putting on a brave face; he truly meant it. If Su Tianming called Su Qingli and they settled the divorce today, all the better—it was exactly what he wanted.
Now, leaving Su Qingli and the Su family wouldn’t make his life worse. On the contrary, he would only become better off and finally be free from all these troubles.
“You… you must be tired of living!” Su Tianming trembled with rage, seeing Jiang Hao unfazed by his threats.
What infuriated him even more was that he’d wanted to humiliate Jiang Hao in front of his girlfriend Chen Yushan, but instead, he had ended up embarrassing himself.
“I am tired of living—what are you going to do about it?” Jiang Hao said with a hint of a smile.
Chen Yushan shot Jiang Hao a look of contempt. “Just a stubborn fool spouting tough words.”
She then clung to Su Tianming’s arm, speaking in a syrupy voice, “Tianming, let’s not stoop to his level. Come on, let’s go take care of our business.”
“You’re right. Why waste time on this piece of trash?” Su Tianming replied coldly, and the two headed for the VIP counter to conduct their business.
Just then, Jiang Hao spoke up. “So you’ve come to Bifeng Bank to handle some business? What a coincidence.”
“What do you mean by that?” Su Tianming turned back, glaring at Jiang Hao with Chen Yushan beside him, both visibly annoyed.
Jiang Hao took out his phone and a business card, then dialed the number printed on it.
“If I said I could make sure you don’t get your business done today with just one word, would you believe me?” Jiang Hao said with a smile.
An immediate silence fell around them.
Su Tianming and Chen Yushan looked at Jiang Hao as if he were insane, finding it hard to believe he’d utter such an arrogant claim.
“Jiang Hao, are you joking or are you serious?” Su Tianming asked, unable to keep the mockery from his face.
Chen Yushan burst into laughter, clutching her stomach, her shoulders shaking as tears welled up at the corners of her eyes.
“Tianming, this Jiang Hao is hilarious! How can he be so full of himself? He should take a good look at who he is before talking like that—if this isn’t asking for humiliation, I don’t know what is!” she giggled.
Jiang Hao knew they wouldn’t believe him.
But that didn’t matter, because he was about to prove what he could do with real action.
The call connected. A warm and gentle voice came through the phone—it was Gao Xiaoqin, the general manager of Bifeng Bank.
“Hello, Mr. Jiang, you’re contacting me so soon—do you have any business you’d like me to handle?”
“I’m still in your bank’s main hall. Come here at once,” Jiang Hao commanded without hesitation.
“Certainly. I’ll be right there,” Gao Xiaoqin replied instantly, not a trace of hesitation in her voice.
In no time at all, Gao Xiaoqin appeared, dressed in a red suit, descending from the second floor. She surveyed the lobby, then walked briskly toward Jiang Hao.
Su Tianming and Chen Yushan spotted her as well. Chen Yushan didn’t seem to recognize Gao Xiaoqin, but Su Tianming clearly did.
Before Gao Xiaoqin had even approached, Su Tianming greeted her with a beaming smile and utmost respect. “Manager Gao! What brings you here? It’s been so long. I hope you’ve been well.”
But Gao Xiaoqin acted as if she hadn’t seen him at all, walking straight past and stopping in front of Jiang Hao.
Standing before Jiang Hao, she bowed politely, her smile radiant. “Mr. Jiang, I’m here. What can I do for you?”
Su Tianming and Chen Yushan were stunned, staring blankly at Gao Xiaoqin and Jiang Hao, unable to process what they were seeing.
Even the elderly woman beside Jiang Hao was startled. She glanced at Jiang Hao, then at the bank manager, unable to believe her eyes.
Jiang Hao, however, remained perfectly calm, as though he’d done nothing worth mentioning.
He pointed at Su Tianming and Chen Yushan and addressed Gao Xiaoqin. “Manager Gao, these two people have made me extremely uncomfortable. I hope Bifeng Bank will cease providing them with any services. Is that possible?”
As soon as Jiang Hao finished speaking, Su Tianming’s expression changed dramatically. He shouted at Jiang Hao in fury, “Jiang Hao, you’re too arrogant! Who do you think you are, ordering Manager Gao around? Do you know who she is? She’s the general manager of Bifeng Bank’s Maple Leaf City branch, second in rank only to the branch president. Do you really think she’ll obey your—”
Before Su Tianming could finish, Gao Xiaoqin nodded with a smile.
“Of course, Mr. Jiang. I’ll carry out your wishes without fail.”
