Chapter 1: You’re Just a Kidney Donor
"I am not sick! I don’t want surgery!"
"Let me go, I beg you, let me go!"
Inside the snow-white, frigid operating room, Jiang Hao’s limbs were shackled tight, splayed like a fish awaiting slaughter upon the surgical table. He struggled desperately, cried out with all his might, but it was all in vain.
The medical staff nearby, as if deaf and mute, prepared the surgical instruments with cold indifference.
The icy scalpel, the gleaming forceps, the sinister scissors—all these tools, each one chilling to the bone.
After a long while, a young doctor, not even wearing a mask, approached Jiang Hao with a mocking sneer.
“Jiang Hao, how does it feel to lie here, waiting to be butchered?”
“Wang Jun’an, you ruthless bastard, let me go! Let me go, now!”
At the sight of this man, Jiang Hao’s eyes blazed like fire, and suddenly everything was clear.
Wang Jun’an was an internist at this hospital, and an obsessive pursuer of his wife, Su Qingli. Ever since Jiang Hao married Su Qingli, Wang Jun’an had regarded him as an eyesore, a thorn in his flesh.
Now, it was obvious—he was here to eliminate him.
“Let you go? Impossible!” Wang Jun’an sneered, his hand tracing over Jiang Hao’s waist, his face full of malice.
“Do you know your kidney is a perfect match for Elder Bai, the patriarch of the Bai family, one of Maple City’s top clans?”
“Elder Bai’s kidneys are failing, he’s on the brink of death. If I use your kidney to save him, I’ll become the Bai family’s savior, rise as a new elite in Maple City!”
“And you, the obstacle standing between me and Su Qingli, will disappear forever. Isn’t this a perfect plan?”
“You dare!”
Jiang Hao roared furiously, his teeth gritted.
“If you kill me, Qingli will hate you for the rest of her life. She’ll never let you get away with it!”
“You mean Su Qingli?”
Wang Jun’an laughed wildly, gleefully mocking him.
“Jiang Hao, you really are adorably naive.”
“Do you know how I learned your kidney matches Elder Bai? It was your wife, Su Qingli herself, who told me!”
“So today, the one who wants you dead isn’t just me—it’s Su Qingli, too!”
“Hahahahahaha…”
Boom!
Wang Jun’an’s words struck Jiang Hao’s heart like thunder on a clear day.
“No… Impossible! Absolutely impossible!”
“Qingli always said I was the man she loved most, she’d never hurt me!”
Jiang Hao shook his head violently, his face filled with disbelief, his voice a desperate howl.
Back in university, he and Su Qingli fell in love, planning to marry after graduation.
But fate intervened—his parents were kidnapped and murdered.
When he found them, his father was already dead, his mother clinging to her last breath. She slipped a jade ring onto his finger, saying it was a family heirloom, the root of their misfortune.
She forced him to swear: unless he could unravel the ring’s secret, he must not seek their killers, nor exact revenge.
Bound by this vow, Jiang Hao buried his parents hastily, then exhausted himself searching for the ring’s secret, but found nothing. Revenge slipped ever further from reach.
Later, Su Qingli’s family demanded she marry for alliance or take a husband into their home.
For her sake, Jiang Hao, knowing how hard it would be, surrendered his pride and became the Su family's son-in-law.
For two years, he endured endless humiliation and hardship in the Su family, yet never complained.
Su Qingli always said he was the man she loved most, that they would spend their lives together.
Now, with Wang Jun’an claiming Su Qingli wanted him dead, how could he believe it?
Wang Jun’an, seeing Jiang Hao clinging stubbornly to his illusions, sneered coldly.
“Think carefully—who told you to get a health check at the hospital?”
“And who told you to come today to collect your test results?”
At those words, Jiang Hao’s face went deathly pale, his gaze vacant.
Yes.
It had always been Su Qingli urging him to get checked.
And it was Su Qingli who told him to collect his report today.
But when he arrived, he never saw any report. Instead, a doctor injected him with an unknown drug, and he remembered nothing more.
When he awoke, he was already lying on the operating table!
Could all this truly be connected to Su Qingli?
Seeing Jiang Hao’s face change dramatically, Wang Jun’an grew ever more gleeful.
“You think she married you for love? Naive! She made you her son-in-law because only a daughter who doesn’t marry out can compete for the Su family inheritance!”
“And beyond that, she knew long ago that Elder Bai’s kidney was failing, and only yours was a match. That’s why she kept you close!”
“In short, to her, you were nothing but a kidney-in-waiting—a vessel kept for this very day!”
Jiang Hao could scarcely believe it, unwilling to accept, but he could no longer deny it.
His heart felt as if it were being slashed to ribbons.
But before he could grieve, Wang Jun’an picked up a scalpel, his face twisted with a cold smile, and traced it along Jiang Hao’s waist.
The chill of the blade made Jiang Hao’s skin crawl.
“Jiang Hao, go to hell!”
With a cruel glint, Wang Jun’an slashed the scalpel across Jiang Hao’s skin.
Blood spurted instantly.
Agonizing pain, together with the shadow of death, made Jiang Hao’s pupils contract.
No!
He must not die!
If he died, who would avenge his parents?
Who would restore justice?
Perhaps his resolve moved the heavens. At that moment, the jade ring his mother left him suddenly released a surge of scorching warmth.
It coursed through his body, finally concentrating in his mind, forming a message:
“The Way of Yanhuang Medicine, born of intention, passed by intention. Now, with pure blood and pure mind, the foundation is aligned. The inheritance is granted. Uphold medical virtue—save the dying, heal the wounded!”
Immediately, Jiang Hao’s head felt as if it would explode.
Countless medical teachings and skills flooded his mind, as if he had always possessed them.
Beyond that, indescribable power erupted within his body.
“Roar…”
A wild cry escaped Jiang Hao, and the surge of strength burst forth.
The iron shackles binding his limbs shattered like paper, breaking apart with a crisp snap.
Under the astonished gaze of all present, he flipped upright from the table, landing firmly on his feet.
He lowered his gaze to the jade ring in his hand, thoughts whirling in his eyes.
He had never ceased searching for the ring’s secret, always finding nothing.
He had thought it was a kind lie from his parents, meant to keep him from being consumed by hatred.
Never had he imagined that the jade ring truly hid such a shocking secret.
Now, with the inheritance of medicine in his grasp, he would no longer be a humiliated weakling!
He would repay kindness with kindness, vengeance with vengeance, enmity with enmity!
Whoever brought him suffering would receive it back tenfold, a hundredfold.
With this resolve, Jiang Hao turned abruptly, his gaze icy as he stared at the dumbfounded Wang Jun’an, roaring in fury:
“Wang Jun’an, your death has come!”
