Chapter 35: Just Kidding
Ruan Yingzhe stubbornly refused to admit defeat. “It’s exactly as I said, it was her, shamelessly trying to sedu—” Before he could finish, he suddenly collapsed in a straight line with a loud thud that stunned the entire Ruan family.
Ruan Cha walked over unhurriedly, stopped by his side, and bent down to meet his gaze. “This is your last chance. It really will explode.”
“What did you do to your father?!” Kong Xian shrieked when she saw Ruan Yingzhe fall to the ground.
“What exactly did you do to my mother?” Ruan Cha’s eyes were cold, her whole presence emanating a terrifying aura. “If you still refuse to tell the truth, I will—”
“I’ll talk! I’ll talk!” Ruan Yingzhe stammered, cold sweat pouring down his face, his forehead drenched. “It was me, I deceived your mother’s feelings. Later, to get what I wanted, I stooped so low as to drug her…”
As the confession slipped from his lips, Kong Xian, who had been supporting him, staggered backward in horror.
Ruan Cha’s expression darkened further upon hearing this. Her gaze fixed on Ruan Yingzhe, as if a layer of frost had settled in her eyes.
“I’ll remember this,” she said quietly.
Then she turned, her gaze sweeping over the rest of the Ruan family.
“You will all pay for every word you spoke here today.”
With that, she spun on her heel, not pausing for even a moment.
“Get me the lie detector!” Ruan Yingzhe cried out in panic, thinking only of his own safety, completely ignoring Kong Xian, whose face had turned deathly pale.
Hearing him shout, Ruan Cha glanced back, undisguised ridicule in her eyes. “I was lying,” she said, then turned away.
As she turned her profile, Ruan Zhan—closest to her—caught the movement of her lips.
Idiot.
Ruan Zhan: “…”
Once she had left the old Ruan family residence, Ruan Cha slipped her phone from its case and drew out a photograph.
It was a two-inch ID photo. The woman in the picture smiled with the utmost gentleness, her beautiful features bearing a striking resemblance to Ruan Cha.
Ruan Cha lowered her gaze, her pale fingers gently brushing across the photo.
Mom, I will find you. Whatever Ruan Yingzhe did to you, he will pay the price.
Meanwhile, less than three hundred meters from the Ruan family estate, Gu Zhenzhi sat waiting in his car.
He had received the address as soon as Ruan Cha entered the old house. Finishing his work, he had instructed his driver to wait for him nearby.
He’d originally been busy, but when he looked up to rest his eyes, his attention was caught by the girl standing at the gate of the old house.
She stood tall, her back straight, holding a photo in her hand. He didn’t know what she was looking at, but her features were delicate and gentle.
Gu Zhenzhi withdrew his gaze, his long fingers tapping a few times on his phone screen.
A moment later, Ruan Cha received his message.
Look to your right. Get in the car.
When she saw the message, Ruan Cha glanced to her right. Sure enough, it was Gu Zhenzhi’s car.
She immediately brightened, waving enthusiastically at him before dashing over on her slender legs.
As she reached the car, the door opened automatically. Ruan Cha climbed in, and the moment she saw Gu Zhenzhi’s face, all her gloom instantly vanished.
Beauty really does heal all wounds.
“Gu Zhenzhi!” Her voice was sweet and clear, with a crisp liveliness.
Gu Zhenzhi’s expression remained unchanged, his suit immaculate and his demeanor solemn. It was only when he heard Ruan Cha call his name that he lowered his gaze and looked languidly at the girl beside him.
“I was actually in a terrible mood just now,” she said, her smile sweet though her eyes still betrayed a trace of loneliness. “But the moment I saw you, I felt sweetness again!”
