Chapter 104: I Am Leaving
The girl's warm breath mingled with Gu Zhenzhi's, their breaths entwined. His gaze faltered. His body stiffened, unable to move. In the next moment, Gu Zhenzhi's dark lashes trembled lightly; two conflicting thoughts battled wildly in his mind. One insisted: Gu Zhenzhi, keep calm—she was still flirting with another man this afternoon. The other whispered: Gu Zhenzhi, have you already fallen for her? Admit it.
Just as he was caught in this turmoil, the girl right before him suddenly sat back down on the bed, her face filled with grievance. Her beautiful eyes were misty, as if tears might spill at any moment. "Gu Zhenzhi, just how much do you dislike me? You won’t even respond to a kiss!" Her voice was soft, tinged with a slight tremor; her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, and even her breathing seemed broken with distress.
Gu Zhenzhi’s heart softened instantly. The moment he stepped into Ruan Cha’s bedroom, his thoughts had been dark, even sprouting the urge to keep her beside him forever. Yet truly feeling the girl’s emotions, every move tugged at his heartstrings. Gu Zhenzhi had to admit—he simply could not face her with coldness or detachment.
After speaking, Ruan Cha saw Gu Zhenzhi still wearing that indifferent expression, ignoring her. Her little heart shattered completely. She flopped onto the bed, arms spread wide in despair, staring up at the ceiling.
"I understand now. Since you dislike me so much, I should know my place. Don’t worry—I’ll start packing my things right now. From now on, I won’t appear in your world or disturb you again..."
Ruan Cha’s slender body rolled from the middle to the side of the bed. She propped herself up with both hands, found a sheet from somewhere, spread it out, and threw her little backpack, clothes, and everything else into the center in a heap.
Finally, she wrapped the sheet around it and tied a knot. The bundle was several times bigger than she was. Ruan Cha pressed her arms against it, grasping a corner. At this moment, her clear, lovely eyes turned to Gu Zhenzhi, shining with tears and a hint of red. "I’m leaving."
With those words, she turned around, trying to hoist the bundle onto her back.
But the bundle was too heavy.
Not only did she fail to get it onto her back, it fell to the floor, dragging Ruan Cha down with it.
The sharp pain made Ruan Cha burst out crying.
Seeing the girl dragged down and heavily dropped by the oversized bundle, Gu Zhenzhi’s heart lurched fiercely.
For a moment, he cared for nothing else. He strode over quickly, his long legs moving in haste, and stopped in front of Ruan Cha.
He bent down.
He gathered the girl’s slender body into his arms.
"Are you hurt?"
Gu Zhenzhi’s voice was low.
There was an urgency in his tone that even he didn’t realize.
Ruan Cha’s lips quivered as she struggled out of Gu Zhenzhi’s embrace. "Don’t bother with me. There’s no reason for you to care about me. Even if I fall to my death, what does it matter to you?"
Gu Zhenzhi’s expression shifted slightly.
His pale, cold fingers hung at his sides, curling faintly after she broke free. "No reason?"
He lowered his gaze, dark lashes hiding his emotions.
His expression was unreadable.
"Since things have come to this between us, thank you for taking care of me these past days. I have no family in Mo City anyway. In a few days, Old Shen will come to pick me up. When I leave, I won’t bother you anymore..."
