After parting with Zhou Chen, Zhong Yi returned to his apartment, a rented unit in an old residential complex.

For an outsider drifting in Jiangzhou, trying to establish himself in a metropolis like Jiangzhou was truly difficult.

He could not afford to rent in a decent neighborhood and could only live in a run-down old complex like this one. In fact, if he had not needed a place where he and his girlfriend could spend time together, he would not even have been willing to rent it. Even a place like this cost a considerable amount every month.

As an elementary school teacher, Zhong Yi considered himself highly capable, but his education, professional background, and family origins left him with very little room for advancement.

Being able to secure a teaching position at Sail Primary School had already been a remarkably good opportunity for him.

However, the job offered little future, which was why he had started a small after-school tutoring class consisting entirely of students from his own class.

Since they were his own students, tutoring them according to his teaching philosophy was not difficult. He could even earn more from it than he did from his salary.

That life had actually satisfied Zhong Yi. According to his plans, if he worked hard and saved money for several years, he might be able to afford the down payment on a home in one of Jiangzhou’s more remote districts. Then he and his girlfriend could get married, work hard together, and build a small home of their own.

But life was unpredictable. He had crossed paths with Tian Yulan, and because neither of them was willing to back down, he had lost his position at Sail Primary School and come to Choice Academy.

Relying on his outstanding ability to teach mathematics, he had become a senior instructor for Choice Academy’s elite classes. The position was stressful and demanding, but the pay was good, and at least his career had not come to a standstill.

Yet after arriving at Choice Academy, he still could not escape Tian Yulan. They had clashed again. Although he had ultimately won decisively, he felt no joy at all. Instead, having gained another student, he found himself under even greater pressure.

Life was difficult, but Zhong Yi could still see hope ahead and continued moving forward with determination.

Until tonight, when he heard what his senior schoolmate, Xia Junshan, had said to him. The words had shaken him deeply.

Investing millions, opening a large tutoring center, and becoming the owner—these were things he had previously dared to imagine only in his dreams.

He had to admit that although Zhou Chen had merely mentioned the idea in passing, it had genuinely stirred his heart—deeply.

As a senior instructor at a tutoring institution, he knew very well how much profit this industry contained.

He believed himself capable; all he lacked was an opportunity to put his ambitions into practice. Now that such an opportunity had appeared before him—and that it came from a senior schoolmate he trusted—he felt he had no reason to refuse.

The only thing he had to worry about was whether his abilities were truly equal to the task.

“Xue’er, I need to discuss this with Xue’er properly. If she could join me too, that would be even better.”

With that thought, Zhong Yi immediately picked up his phone and called his girlfriend.

…………

Tian Yulan remained unconscious in the hospital for an entire day. When she woke the following morning, she ignored Yan Peng’s attempts to stop her, walked straight out of the hospital, and headed directly to the shopping mall.

When she arrived at One Hundred Mall, she discovered that the mall was bustling with activity because of its anniversary celebration. The customer-visit display booths she had been worrying about were all operating normally, and the promotional materials were all from Weinuan. It appeared that while she had been unconscious, Weinuan’s materials had arrived in time.

Tian Yulan breathed a long sigh of relief. In an instant, all the discomfort in her body seemed to vanish, and she went to work full of energy.

However, when she reached her post, she was told that she did not need to work that day.

She was utterly stunned.

This was the busiest day of the anniversary celebration. How could the floor manager possibly be absent on such an important occasion? She hurried to the mall’s management office, intending to explain the situation and resume work.

But the answer she received left her completely dazed.

She had been suspended.

According to management, although Weinuan’s materials had arrived in time, the incident had still resulted from a mistake on her part, and she bore undeniable responsibility.

Something like this had happened on such an important day. Although the anniversary celebration had not been delayed, the incident had caused a major negative impact within the company, and many people had filed complaints. In addition, she had suddenly fainted while working the previous day. After discussion, senior management had decided, for the sake of her health, to suspend her for a period of time.

For Tian Yulan, this outcome was a devastating blow.

She had been in the workplace for more than a decade and naturally understood exactly what suspension meant.

What nonsense about looking after her health! It was all an excuse. The mall was punishing her. Once she was suspended, someone else would naturally take her place. Even if she were lucky enough to have the suspension lifted one day, there would no longer be a position for her when she returned.

Suspension did not technically mean dismissal, but in practice, it was already more or less the same thing.

Unable to accept reality, Tian Yulan caused a scene in front of management. She said that she had worked tirelessly for the company all these years; even if she had received no credit, she had certainly suffered for it. The company could not treat her this way. She would accept a pay cut or even the deduction of an entire month’s salary and performance bonus, but they could not suspend her.

Tian Yulan soon learned what reality truly meant.

At home, she could usually get her way by throwing tantrums and acting domineering. But in the workplace, no one indulged her. Faced with the management’s icy gaze and her colleagues’ schadenfreude, she could only leave dejectedly.

On the way home, Tian Yulan could not stop crying. Her blurred vision nearly caused her to hit someone, and when the person slapped her car window and cursed loudly, she did not dare argue back. She could only apologize repeatedly.

After finally returning home, she found Yan Peng still there, shouting excitedly as he played a video game. Her anger surged instantly.

“Ah!”

Tian Yulan let out a furious roar and charged toward Yan Peng. Under his incredulous gaze, she yanked off his headphones and smashed them hard against the monitor. Then she frantically shoved the monitor to the floor. She overturned the computer tower as well, leaving nothing untouched.

Yan Peng remained seated in his chair, staring blankly as Tian Yulan vented her rage like a madwoman. It took several seconds before he finally reacted.

“Tian Yulan, what are you doing? Have you gone crazy?”

He shoved Tian Yulan aside and stared at the computer components scattered across the floor, trembling with rage. The computer tower alone had cost him more than ten thousand. The monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headphones were all high-end equipment. They were the reason he had managed to reach Silver rank.

Now that “hero” had been smashed to pieces right in front of him by Tian Yulan. No matter how patient and tolerant he had usually been with her, this time he could not endure it. She had crossed his bottom line.

“Why did you smash my computer? Tian Yulan, what the hell is wrong with you? I didn’t do anything to you! I was just playing my game—why did you have to smash my computer? Why?”
