Chapter 34: Mother and Daughter Join Forces, Nan Jianlong Faints in Rage
Zhou Chen had already managed to separate the two women. With just a little more effort, he could have pulled Cai Juying out the door and resolved the trouble.
But who could have predicted that Tian Yulan would arrive so suddenly? She poured fuel on the fire, shouting insults the moment she appeared, and in an instant, the war erupted again.
Tian Yulan was overbearing and unreasonable, but Nan Li was not one to be trifled with either. Seeing that Tian Yulan had pushed her husband twice and was now spewing abuse, she was instantly enraged.
"Tian Yulan, watch your mouth! Who is bullying your mother? It was your mother who came to our house to stir up trouble first. We have never bullied her."
Tian Yulan retorted angrily, "I saw it with my own two eyes! You were bullying my mother! You call yourselves educated people? Is this how you treat others? How was my mother stirring up trouble? Even if she were, you could have just told her to leave. What is the meaning of putting your hands on her? Do you think my family is easy to push around?"
With Tian Yulan there, Cai Juying seemed to find a backer. She wailed, "Lanlan, they called me an old mistress. After all these years, I’ve worked like a beast of burden, and yet I’m still being called an old mistress, and no one is standing up for me... Ah..."
In her eyes, she had been with Nan Jianlong for so many years; no matter what, he should have sided with her and spoken up for her. But Nan Jianlong had remained silent, leaving her to suffer such grievances. With her daughter present, she let it all out.
Hearing this, Tian Yulan was consumed by fury. She pointed at Nan Li and Zhao Na and scolded, "You can't keep your own men, so why blame my mother? Don’t think we’re easy targets. If you dare insult my mother again, see if I don’t fight you to the death!"
Nan Li snapped, "Stop making a scene here! This is not the place for your tantrums. Take your mother and leave. We don’t welcome you in our home."
"You think we want to be here? You bullied my mother today, and you have to give me an explanation, or don’t blame me for being unkind."
Tian Yulan refused to back down. Her childhood experiences had made her extremely sensitive, and seeing her mother being bullied in front of her eyes, she could not swallow this insult.
"You must be Cai Juying’s daughter, right? Tell me, what kind of explanation do you want? If you’re going to be a mistress, don’t be afraid of being called one. Why come to my daughter’s house to cause a scene? Calling her names is being polite; if my daughter hadn't stopped me, I would have taught her a lesson."
Zhao Na was also a sharp-tongued woman. Because of Cai Juying, she naturally had no love for Tian Yulan, and seeing Tian Yulan target her daughter, she could no longer hold back.
"Who is a mistress? What right do you have to call me a mistress?" Cai Juying retorted, refusing to yield.
Zhao Na pointed at Cai Juying: "The right stems from the fact that I was Nan Jianlong’s legally wedded wife, and you were involved with him before we were divorced. Therefore, you are a mistress, and even now that you are old, you are still an old mistress."
"Ah, what are you saying? I’ll fight you!"
Cai Juying could no longer contain herself and rushed forward to attack Zhao Na, but Zhou Chen blocked the middle, determined not to let them come to blows.
However, while he could stop the two older women, the situation with Tian Yulan exploded. Because of her past, she had always been looked down upon by her in-laws; Zhao Na’s words struck a nerve so deep that she could barely catch her breath.
"Nan Li, your family is truly going too far!"
"Yan Peng, hurry up and take your wife and mother-in-law out of here, fast!" Zhou Chen shouted, unable to hold everyone back by himself.
Hearing Zhou Chen’s shout, Yan Peng was jolted into action. He rushed over to grab Tian Yulan, then reached out with his other hand to pull his mother-in-law, trying to drag them out.
But neither Cai Juying nor Tian Yulan was willing to let it go after being called a mistress to their faces; they continued to grapple with Zhao Na.
Because the commotion was so loud, neighbors from floors above and below heard the noise and gathered at the doorway to watch the spectacle.
Tian Yulan and Cai Juying didn't care—they didn't live there anyway—but Nan Li felt deep shame. However, with the two women refusing to budge, she was burning with rage.
"Everyone, shut up!"
Just as the argument reached a fever pitch, Nan Jianlong suddenly let out a rare, thunderous roar. The argument had caused everyone to ignore him, but his shout immediately drew all eyes to him.
Nan Jianlong reached out, trembling as he pointed at Zhao Na, then at Cai Juying, his lips quivering.
"You, you all, you..."
Before he could finish his sentence, his eyes rolled back, and he collapsed backward.
"Dad!"
The sudden turn of events terrified everyone. Zhou Chen no longer cared about blocking Cai Juying and rushed toward Nan Jianlong, who had fallen to the floor. The others stopped arguing and ran over as well.
"Dad! Dad!"
Zhou Chen lifted Nan Jianlong and shook him, but there was no response. He immediately said, "This is bad, he’s fainted."
Cai Juying panicked, "What do we do? Lanlan, what do we do?"
Tian Yulan was also in a state of shock. They had been too busy arguing to notice Nan Jianlong. None of them had expected him to collapse.
"Call for an ambulance! Quick, call an ambulance!" Nan Li reacted quickly and reached for her phone.
Zhou Chen said calmly, "No, we don't know how long it will take for an ambulance. How far is the nearest hospital?"
Nan Li replied, "About twenty minutes by car."
Hearing this, Zhou Chen immediately crouched down with his back to Nan Jianlong and hoisted him onto his back. He shouted to Yan Peng, "Yan Peng, drive! We’re taking him to the hospital first!"
"Okay, okay! My car is right outside!" Yan Peng, who had never encountered such a situation, replied instantly.
"I’m coming too!" Cai Juying and Nan Li shouted in unison.
Zhou Chen told Nan Li, "Li Li, you stay here. Comfort your mother and Huanhuan; come over later. You are his daughter, and there will be many hospital procedures that only you can handle."
"Okay, I’ll drive over immediately."
Zhou Chen carried Nan Jianlong toward the elevator, while Yan Peng pushed through the onlookers, "Move! Make way!"
They ran all the way to Yan Peng’s car. The four of them—Zhou Chen, Yan Peng, Cai Juying, and the unconscious Nan Jianlong—piled into the vehicle and sped toward the nearest hospital.
After carrying a man for several hundred meters, Zhou Chen was panting, his body aching intensely.
Cai Juying sat in the back holding Nan Jianlong, her expression one of sorrow. Moments ago, she had resented Nan Jianlong for not speaking up for her, but seeing him collapsed, she was truly terrified.
Nan Jianlong’s health was already poor. If this anger had caused him serious harm, it would be a regret that could never be undone.
