Chapter 46: Folk Forbidden Arts - Three Corpses Blocking Wealth (Part 8)
Now that Shenghai Gold Shop had received the punishment it deserved, with many of its clerks suffering various injuries and disabilities, Li Chengfeng felt a certain degree of guilt in his heart.
Having initially been swindled out of 800,000, the anger in his heart had now dissipated. To avoid harming the innocent, Li Chengfeng decided to break the Three Corpses Wealth-Blocking Curse.
Wang Bin also agreed with Li Chengfeng's idea. The Shenghai Gold Shop had been forced to close down due to the curse, and having witnessed firsthand those pretty female clerks suffering from bloody disasters, he felt a deep sense of unbearable pity.
Yet, remembering how they had cheated people, acted with arrogance and tyranny, and abused their power to bully others, suffering such punishment was no more than they deserved.
Now that they had paid the price, and Han Lili had lost everything, it was only right to break the curse.
That very night, taking advantage of the deep silence, Li Chengfeng brought a folding ladder, and together with Wang Bin, arrived once more at the entrance of Shenghai Gold Shop.
With no security guards on duty in the shop now, the two men leaned the ladder directly against the wall, and Li Chengfeng climbed up to the terrace.
Full of curiosity and wanting to see how the Three Corpses Wealth-Blocking Curse was set up, Wang Bin also scrambled up the ladder onto the terrace. Upon seeing the corpse of a sickly cat, a featherless crow, and an emaciated bat hanging behind the signboard, he chuckled and said,
"I thought setting up the Three Corpses Wealth-Blocking Curse would be so difficult. Turns out it's just hanging their carcasses above the door!"
"Indeed, it is as simple as you think."
Li Chengfeng did not tell him that these carcasses were not simply hung at random; they had to be positioned precisely across the three directional wealth-attracting spots. If placed incorrectly, they would fail to block the flow of wealth and would have no effect whatsoever.
Wang Bin turned back to look at Li Chengfeng and continued to ask,
"Chengfeng, what must we do to break the Three Corpses Wealth-Blocking Curse?"
"Take down the carcasses, and then burn them completely with cinnabar!"
Both of them walked toward the carcasses simultaneously, intending to untie them from above. The moment their hands touched the hemp ropes, the carcasses bound by the ropes suddenly moved and let out eerie cries.
"Meow..."
"Caw, caw..."
"Squeak, squeak, squeak..."
Both men were startled, hurriedly pulling their hands back and retreating several steps in succession, staring in terror at the corpses bound by the hemp ropes.
Pale-faced with fright, Wang Bin let out a sharp cry.
"Holy shit!"
It was unbelievable—corpses that had been dead for quite some time could actually move?
The carcass of the sickly cat was kicking its limbs frantically, trying to break free from the hemp rope choking its neck. Every time the cat's claws touched the rope, the hemp rope would flash with intermittent red light.
As the rope glowed, agonizing cries issued from the cat's carcass, its withered mouth opening and closing, looking utterly bizarre.
Its hollow, sunken little eyes slowly rolled within their sockets, fixing a venomous gaze upon Li Chengfeng and Wang Bin.
The crow's carcass flapped its featherless wings, also striving to shake off the binding of the hemp rope, emitting cawing sounds while its two sharp beaks kept opening and closing toward Li Chengfeng.
The bat's carcass, however, remained unusually quiet, suspended motionlessly from the hemp rope, yet its two tiny eyes were locked intently on Wang Bin and Li Chengfeng.
At that moment, gusts of chilly wind blew. Despite the sultry summer night, an oppressive and piercing coldness set in, and both men shuddered simultaneously.
Witnessing such a bizarre scene for the first time, Wang Bin felt his scalp tingle, the hairs on his body standing on end, his face as pale as paper. With a trembling voice, he asked,
"Chengfeng, wh-what is happening here?"
"How did the corpses of these animals come back to life?"
Li Chengfeng knitted his brows tightly. Only now did he understand why the Three Corpses Wealth-Blocking Curse was classified as a forbidden folk art.
Since it was designated as a forbidden art, it naturally possessed terrifying aspects. Not only could it block wealth and harm people, but it could also refine malevolent spirits.
Nourished by the three directional wealth-attracting spots, the carcasses of the sickly cat, the crow, and the emaciated bat had transformed into demonic entities. If they were allowed to escape, they would undoubtedly bring disaster upon the mortal world.
He had to find a way to destroy the three animal carcasses. Just as Li Chengfeng was pondering what to do, the corpses hanging from the ropes suddenly stopped thrashing. Following that, ethereal soul forms drifted out respectively from the cat's carcass, the bat's carcass, and the crow's carcass, landing steadily onto the terrace.
Upon touching the ground, the soul forms let out piercing screeches directed at Li Chengfeng and Wang Bin.
"Meow..."
"Caw, caw..."
"Squeak, squeak, squeak..."
Although Wang Bin's spiritual vision had not been opened, he could still see everything unfolding before him. Hearing their cries, he was frozen in place with shock.
Sensing that things were going terribly wrong, Li Chengfeng shouted urgently to Wang Bin,
"Binzi, run!"
Recovering from his daze, Wang Bin asked hurriedly,
"Run? Where are we supposed to run?"
"Where else? Jump straight down!"
Without time to climb back down the ladder, Li Chengfeng and Wang Bin leaped directly off the terrace, which was nearly three meters high. The moment their feet hit the ground, both cried out in pain simultaneously, crashing onto the earth as a sharp ache shot through their shins.
"Meow..."
An ear-splitting cat screech echoed from behind. The cat's spirit stood on the terrace, glaring down at the two men below with an enraged howl.
Feeling a chill down their spines, the two scrambled back to their feet, abandoning the ladder entirely, and bolted away at full speed.
At the same time, gusts of ghostly wind swept up behind them, punctuated from time to time by the cries of the cat, the crow, and the bat.
Wang Bin glanced back to see a crow and a bat flying mid-air, along with the sickly cat, following closely on their heels.
At this sight, Wang Bin let out a shrieking scream and ran forward for his dear life.
"Damn it, this is way too fucking terrifying!"
"Help..."
Li Chengfeng did not dare to slow down either, marveling inwardly at how fast this guy could run. He hurriedly quickened his pace, staying right behind Wang Bin. Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined that the forbidden folk art of the Three Corpses Wealth-Blocking Curse could be so utterly horrifying.
The soul forms of the sickly cat, the bat, and the crow were still tailing them relentlessly!
