Chapter 39: The Superior Feng Shui Formation of the Child Reclining on Gold

When Wang Bin heard about the folk forbidden art known as the Three Corpses Blocking Wealth, he immediately became interested. He had spent more than a decade in school and learned a great deal of conventional knowledge. In his understanding, things like feng shui and occult arts simply did not exist.
But today, after witnessing blood flowing from a stone ox with his own eyes, his entire worldview had been shattered. He had gained a new understanding of this mysterious world.
He stared at Li Chengfeng and asked curiously, “Chengfeng, I still don’t understand. How can a featherless crow and a bat that has died of starvation be used to harm people?”
“Isn’t that taking things a little too far?”
Li Chengfeng smiled at Wang Bin. Ordinary people could never understand how the corpses of dead animals could be used to harm someone.
It sounded utterly preposterous, like something out of a fairy tale.
To ordinary people, a cat that had died of illness, a dead crow without feathers, and a bat that had wasted away were nothing more than animal carcasses. But in the eyes of practitioners of esoteric feng shui, they were objects of immense ill omen. With a little manipulation, they could cause misfortune to cling to a person and bad luck to descend upon them.
Li Chengfeng continued, “Binzi, if you don’t believe me, then once we find a featherless crow and a bat that has wasted away, come back to Qingzhou with me.”
“I’ll let you see with your own eyes just how powerful the folk forbidden art known as the Three Corpses Blocking Wealth really is.”
Wang Bin nodded and asked countless questions about feng shui. Li Chengfeng answered every one of them patiently. The two of them talked until well past midnight...
The following morning
The two men were still deep in sleep when Wang Bin’s mother called them awake.
“Xiaofeng, Binzi, get up quickly. Breakfast is ready.”
The breakfast was not lavish, but it was filled with warmth: freshly ground soy milk, steamed buns, fried dough sticks, and tofu rolls.
After eating their fill, Wang Bin led Li Chengfeng into the forested mountains behind the village.
When they had been students, Li Chengfeng had come to these mountains with Wang Bin before.
The peaks here were magnificent. More than a dozen mountains stretched endlessly into the distance, their slopes blanketed in lush green vegetation. This was the famous Tianmu Mountain Nature Scenic Reserve.
The two men chatted and laughed as they walked, and before long they entered the forest.
The constant chirping of insects and calls of birds filled the woods, while the air grew fresh and fragrant.
Sunlight streamed through the dense leaves, forming shafts of light among the trees. The sight was breathtakingly beautiful, like a fairyland on earth.
Although he had been here before, seeing such scenery again moved Li Chengfeng deeply. He closed his eyes slightly, spread his arms, and embraced nature, unable to hold back his admiration.
“The scenery here is truly breathtaking. The air is so fresh.”
“You can never breathe air this clean in the city.”
“What nonsense. If Tianmu Mountain didn’t have beautiful scenery and good air, would the state have designated it a nature reserve?”
There were many isolated, neglected graves scattered throughout the mountains, and the cries of crows often rang out overhead.

Following the sound of the crows, the two men made their way through the forest, occasionally looking up into the trees. They spotted many nests built among the branches, as well as hornet nests hanging from the limbs.
Li Chengfeng could not tell which nests belonged to crows.
Wang Bin, who had grown up at the foot of the mountains, was exceptionally knowledgeable about birds’ nests. With a single glance, he could identify the species of bird that had built one.
The two of them had entered the mountains in the morning and spent most of the day wandering through the woods. Whenever they came across a crow’s nest, Wang Bin would climb up to inspect it.
They found several crow carcasses, but not a single featherless crow.
Wang Bin climbed up and down the trees until he was panting heavily. Completely bewildered, he asked, “Where are these supposedly featherless crows? How could a crow possibly have no feathers?”
Seeing how exhausted Wang Bin was, Li Chengfeng felt a little guilty. During their break, he told him a few stories about crows.
“Have you ever heard the saying about lambs kneeling to nurse and crows feeding their parents?”
“I have. Lambs kneel while nursing, and crows feeding their parents means that when young crows are small, their mother finds food for them. When she grows old and can no longer fly, the young crows find food for her.”
Li Chengfeng nodded and continued, “Do you know why old crows can no longer fly?”
“Isn’t it because they’re old?”
Li Chengfeng shook his head. In truth, a crow’s inability to fly was not simply caused by old age. After growing old, a crow would shed its feathers and grow a new set.
During this molting period, the crow could not fly. It needed the young crows to find food for it and help it survive the process. That was how the story of crows feeding their parents had come about.
If an old crow had no young to bring it food while it was molting, it would begin eating the feathers on its own body. Eventually, every feather would be devoured, and the crow would die inside its nest. That was the origin of the featherless crow.
To a feng shui practitioner, a crow that had died of old age after losing all its feathers was an object of immense ill omen.
After hearing Li Chengfeng’s explanation, Wang Bin became intensely interested. He wanted to determine whether Li Chengfeng was telling the truth, and so he continued weaving through the woods, climbing up and down the trees.
Standing below, Li Chengfeng watched Wang Bin climb a towering tree and felt increasingly worried.
Wang Bin panted as he climbed yet another tree. He wiped the sweat from his forehead, then looked toward the crow’s nest before him. Inside lay a crow whose body was entirely featherless and had dried into a corpse, quietly sprawled in the nest.
He was secretly amazed. Featherless crows truly did exist.
He hurriedly shouted down to Li Chengfeng, “Chengfeng, we found one! A featherless crow!”
“Good!”
“Be careful!”
Wang Bin tossed the crow’s corpse down, and Li Chengfeng placed it in a plastic bag.
The next thing they had to find was a bat that had wasted away.
Bats liked to roost in dark, dry places, such as tree hollows and caves. They were commonly found in such locations.

Wang Bin climbed down from the tree, and the two men continued wandering through the mountains in search of a bat that had wasted away.
They walked for a long time, both panting with exhaustion, yet they did not see even the shadow of a bat. Eventually, they reached a mountaintop and looked down. The scenery was beautiful, but they were too tired to appreciate it.
Li Chengfeng dropped onto the ground, somewhat regretful. He wondered whether they should give up. Finding the corpses of three different animals was proving far too troublesome.
But when he thought of what Shenghai Gold Shop had done, the anger churning inside him was impossible to swallow. The money they had cheated him out of was no small sum—it was more than eight hundred thousand yuan.
With eight hundred thousand yuan, one could buy a two-bedroom apartment in Qingzhou.
Wang Bin sat down beside him and said jokingly, “I’m exhausted to death. This is all your fault. Wouldn’t it have been better to lie in bed and play on my phone when I had nothing else to do? Instead, I followed you into these desolate mountains to look for some featherless crow and a bat that died of starvation.”
“Do you think there’s something wrong with my head?”
“Haha...”
“Who told us we were such good brothers?”
“With a brother like you, I’m truly unlucky.”
The two of them rested on the mountaintop for a while. Li Chengfeng took two sips of mineral water, then looked around and admired the beautiful scenery before him.
The mountains and rivers were exquisite, the landscape serene and pleasant.
Li Chengfeng and Wang Bin were both spellbound, completely immersed in the beauty of nature.
Suddenly, Li Chengfeng’s brow furrowed slightly. He sprang to his feet and stared at the three distant peaks with astonishment.
The bases of the three mountains were connected. The peaks on either side were relatively high, while the middle one was much lower and rectangular in shape.
Under the sunlight, shafts of light fell upon the mountains, making them seem to shimmer.
From a distance, the three peaks connected at their bases looked like a golden ingot.
Li Chengfeng was secretly astonished. He could hardly believe that Tianmu Mountain concealed such an excellent feng shui formation.
If they had not stopped here to rest, with the sunlight happening to fall behind the mountains and create a reflection, they would never have discovered this formation.
After his shock faded, a smile appeared on Li Chengfeng’s face. He was utterly certain that this was an exceptional feng shui formation, and the words escaped his lips:
“This... this is a Golden Ingot Beneath the Sleeping Child!”
The Golden Ingot Beneath the Sleeping Child was an exceedingly rare and superior feng shui formation. It governed wealth and prosperity and strengthened the family line. If one’s ancestors were buried here, becoming rich would be all but inevitable.
