Chapter 64: The Arrest Operation
"Activity range locked." Using gait analysis, the Argus system pinpointed the target's operational zone.
The captain of the criminal investigation team took a look and exclaimed, "Good grief, we've searched this area several times and found no clues!"
Hu Yaowen said, "Let's catch him first. No matter what his external disguise is, a DNA test will reveal the truth. All researchers have their blood samples on record!"
"Alright, let's start the operation then!" With the activity range and suspicious individual confirmed, their work became much easier.
The criminal investigation team immediately identified several suspicious residential areas where the suspect might be hiding and dispatched elite squads to apprehend him.
...
In an old residential compound in Rongcheng, inside an ordinary apartment.
A "woman" returned home carrying groceries she had purchased.
First, she checked the small flyer she had deliberately wedged into the door crack, marking it with a specific number so she could tell if anyone had opened or tampered with the door.
"Untouched." Chen Yong opened the door.
Once inside, "she" scanned the room again to ensure no one had been there, and only then did she relax and change into home clothes.
However, she was still wearing women's clothes, and her makeup remained removal-free.
"Just endure this a little longer, and this life will be behind me!" He locked the doors and windows, muttering to himself.
He was the defector who had stolen information from the research institute. In truth, calling him a defector wasn't entirely accurate, because he had been a spy even before entering the institute.
Coming from a impoverished family, he had studied diligently since childhood, gained admission to a fine university, and even won the opportunity to study abroad.
During his studies overseas, he experienced the "wine, women, and song" of capitalist nations for the first time—sexy hot girls, delicious alcoholic beverages, all kinds of wild parties...
Having never experienced any of this, Chen Yong quickly became intoxicated by it all. It wasn't until he was buried in mountains of debt that he suddenly realized he was facing prison time!
Just then, a mysterious organization approached him, promising to save him from imprisonment, offer him generous compensation, and secure him citizenship in the Lighthouse Country.
The price was for him to return to the Divine Land and steal intelligence for them.
Chen Yong agreed and underwent their rigorous training. He spent a full five years lying low before successfully infiltrating a vital research institute.
Recently, many major moves had taken place in the Divine Land, drawing the attention of all factions.
His research institute had also received orders to conduct secret research, prompting his former handlers to instruct him to steal the information.
Through careful planning, Chen Yong managed to pilfer some data, but due to the strict security controls, he left a trace and ultimately decided to flee.
Backed by meticulous planning and rich anti-surveillance experience, he successfully escaped. Until now, the security personnel had not managed to catch him.
Chen Yong pulled out a laptop, first using hacker techniques to bounce IP addresses and hack into a zombie computer, then logging into a secret website to contact someone.
"When are you arranging for me to leave the country?" Chen Yong inquired.
"The data you provided is too sparse," the other party replied. "We still have no way of knowing what the Divine Land's secret plan is! The superiors demand that we find out!"
Chen Yong responded, "This is the data with the highest access level I could reach; I don't know anything higher than this. Besides, I still have the original copy of the core information. Get me out, and I'll hand it over!"
Chen Yong had kept his own counsel and hadn't handed over all the information. He withheld a portion of it as insurance to force them to extract him.
Sure enough, the other party said, "The Divine Land's control over transportation routes is extremely tight. Regular channels cannot extract you. Find a way to reach the border region, and we'll have people smuggle you out."
They provided a set of coordinates. Upon checking them, Chen Yong saw it was a border area.
The other party asked, "You haven't been exposed, have you?"
Chen Yong replied smugly, "Exposed? It's impossible for them to find me! I prepared a secondary identity long ago and maintained it for several years. Right after fleeing, I underwent plastic surgery immediately. Now I look like a woman, and they will never find me!"
He hadn't merely relied on makeup and disguise; he had directly hired an underground cosmetic surgery clinic to alter his face. The reason he hadn't left earlier was because the search was too intense, and his surgical recovery was incomplete, making him prone to attracting attention.
Now, the areas where the scalpel had touched his face were gradually healing, making him look like a cookie-cutter internet celebrity.
Even without sunglasses, masks, or other coverings, he was confident that if he walked down the street, the police wouldn't recognize him!
"Good, get there as soon as possible!" the other party urged.
"I'll set off immediately!" Although he believed his plan was foolproof, Chen Yong still felt that leaving sooner was better to avoid living in such constant anxiety.
Just as he was about to pack his things, a knock came from the door.
Chen Yong didn't answer. Instead, he checked the hallway surveillance camera he had installed and saw two women from the residential compound's property management—one he recognized, and the other he didn't.
"Property management! We're here to check the water meter!" shouted an older woman. "Open the door!"
"Could they be here to catch me?" Chen Yong thought to himself. "No, it's absolutely impossible for them to find me!"
"Being overly cautious is counterproductive and tends to draw attention," Chen Yong reasoned. At this point, even his own mother wouldn't recognize him if she stood right in front of him; what was he afraid of people seeing?
Besides, the people outside were merely property management staff.
With that thought, he went to open the door. "The water meter is in the kitchen."
As he spoke, his voice was completely altered—he had intentionally taken medication to make his voice sound feminine yet slightly hoarse.
One of the older women walked into the kitchen and expertly checked the water meter. Chen Yong feigned concern, stepping up to look at the numbers on the dial, but suddenly, a tremendous force struck him from behind, subduing him in a single second.
"Ah, what are you doing?" Chen Yong cried out in shock.
"Criminal police on official business!" The officers gave him no chance to react, slapping handcuffs on him in an instant.
Chen Yong was terrified. *How could they have found me even like this?* He forced himself to remain calm, putting on the reaction of an ordinary citizen, and roared, "What right do you have to arrest me? I'm a law-abiding citizen! Help! Help! There's a fire in the house!"
He deliberately shouted about a fire rather than an arrest in order to draw the attention of nearby residents.
The "older woman" hoisted him up like a helpless chick and demanded, "Your name is Chen Yong, right? You hid deep enough—even went through a sex change?"
Hearing his real name, Chen Yong's expression turned to sheer horror. This reaction was keenly captured by the criminal investigators, and with her rich experience, she knew they had caught the right person.
"Who is Chen Yong? I don't know him at all! You've got the wrong person!" he tried to muddle through.
"Stop acting. We have your DNA; a simple test will prove it. To catch you, we even brought DNA testing equipment—it's right in the van and takes no time at all." As the detective spoke, a group of fully armed police officers swarmed in to apprehend him.
"It's just a shame that our technology has been upgraded! All your disguises are completely useless!"
"What technology?" Chen Yong desperately wanted to know why such a meticulous plan, executed with such genius, had still been seen through.
Unfortunately, as an arrested spy, he had no right to the information.
