Chapter Thirty-Five: Exchange for Two Sets of First-Generation Military Implants!
"This contains what was downloaded from X's brain."
Su Cheng pushed the metal cube toward Remi. "Inside is the source code for the Bone Virus, which can control the Marauders."
"What?!" Remi gasped in surprise. "You downloaded this after you killed X that day?"
Su Cheng nodded. "Yes."
Remi quickly picked up the metal cube to inspect it closely. "The Scrapyard Arena and the Waste Processing Plant have both been desperate for this. They’ll soon realize it’s no longer in X's brain."
"Not necessarily. They likely don't know exactly what was in X's brain; otherwise, they would have come looking for us long ago." Su Cheng took a sip of purified water; it tasted slightly sweet. "This contains the virus source code. They might be able to find some other programs, but without the source code, those are useless. However, you won't be able to use this either."
"Can't use it? Let me see."
Remi went to a side room, retrieved a small laptop, and plugged the metal cube directly into it. Although the embedding function had been destroyed by Yang Siqi, it could still connect to a computer.
Su Cheng kindly warned, "It contains not just the Bone Virus, but the Black Death Virus as well."
But Remi plugged it in anyway. This was the key to controlling the Marauders; she had to see it, no matter what!
In an instant, her screen went black, replaced by a gruesome, bloody skull pattern. Beneath it, countless blood-red, writhing maggots animated across the display.
*Zzzzt...*
The computer sparked violently and was completely fried.
"What a shame," Remi said, putting the computer down in disappointment. "If I could use this, I could control the Marauders and specifically hunt down and slaughter you stinking men."
Su Cheng said helplessly, "This thing can only function within the Black Death Virus; it's hardcoded to it. Only a Marauder can use it."
He felt that Remi must have been deeply traumatized by men, leading her to develop this near-pathological habit of seducing and then murdering them. In the lawless Old World, anything insane could exist, and things were often even more twisted.
"Forget it then." Remi pulled out the metal cube and tossed the expensive computer into the trash. "Even if it's unusable, it's highly valuable. The Scrapyard Arena and the Waste Processing Plant would gladly pay a fortune for it. You certainly can't sell this yourself; it has to go through the black market."
Su Cheng understood. He could either keep the Bone Virus source code for himself or sell it. If he tried to sell it himself, he would surely be captured by the Waste Processing Plant or the Scrapyard Arena. But the black market would protect the privacy of both the buyer and the seller. In the Scrapyard, it was the only place where anything could be traded.
"So, this should be enough to cover your consulting fee, right?"
Su Cheng smiled. "Help me buy E-tier cybernetics as well—as many as possible."
Remi nodded. "That's more than enough. But why do you need E-tier mechanical cybernetics? Your strength is far greater than that." She narrowed her eyes, studying him. Based on his combat performance, Su Cheng definitely possessed the power of B-tier mechanical cybernetics. His reaction time and speed were superior, even if he lacked formal combat technique. After all, he had killed a member of the Wicked single-handedly. This suggested that Su Cheng had likely enhanced his body and was fighting purely on instinct. Someone capable of such physical enhancement shouldn't need E-tier cybernetics, which, in her eyes, were no better than trash.
Su Cheng laughed. "Doesn't the black market have a policy of not asking about the origin or destination of goods?"
Remi paused, then replied with a playful smirk, "I don't necessarily have to follow the black market's rules."
"I can't disclose the specific use." Su Cheng shook his head. Anyone living in the central villa area of the black market was clearly not an ordinary person. For them, rules were indeed just for show—rules were meant to constrain the weak. But he could not reveal the secret of his Dimensional Eye to anyone except No-Brain.
Remi tucked the metal cube away carefully. "I'm just teasing you. It's fine if you don't answer."
Su Cheng tried again, "If possible, could you add a set of implants?"
"Implants?" Remi rested her chin on her slender fingers. "I suppose I could. In a sense, the value of this virus source code far exceeds these items. But I don't have any on hand right now."
While military-grade implants were precious, they were nothing compared to the Bone Virus source code that could control all the Marauders. Even with the strict conditions for using the virus, its value was immeasurable. Holding the source code made her a major player.
Su Cheng thought for a moment. "I'd like to trade for a pristine set of first-generation military implants, or two broken sets would do—it doesn't matter how damaged they are."
The Dimensional Eye could repair them through synthesis and upgrades.
Remi asked in confusion, "Even broken ones?"
Su Cheng nodded. If he could trade for the implants, that would be ideal. Compared to the Bone Virus source code, implants and cybernetics were what he needed most.
"Fine." Remi stood up. "I can get you two damaged first-generation military implants, but you'll have to wait a day or two and come back to pick them up. I can give you 20 sets of E-tier mechanical cybernetics right now. Does that work for you?"
Su Cheng nodded. "That's enough."
Twenty sets of E-tier mechanical cybernetics were enough to synthesize and upgrade into an A-tier combat cybernetic set. He still had one set of his own, which he could use to synthesize and upgrade into a higher-tier version that wouldn't require replacing his original body parts.
Remi looked at Su Cheng and said seriously, "The value of the Bone Virus source code far exceeds this. It’s of great use to me, so consider me in your debt. If you want, I can take you into the bedroom right now."
Su Cheng pursed his lips. "Are you trying to get it for free and then dismantle me?"
"Hahaha..." Remi laughed loudly. "How could I? I can't bear to dismantle you right now." She added, quite earnestly, "Perhaps I really do want to be with you."
Su Cheng’s mouth twitched. He had no desire to fathom this woman’s thoughts. "It's getting late, I should head back."
A flash of disappointment crossed Remi's eyes. "Very well. I'll have someone prepare the cybernetics for you and send them out. It won't take long."
"Alright." Su Cheng stood up. "I'll wait outside."
With that, he walked out of the villa.
Remi touched her own face. "Am I that terrifying? Or am I too ugly?"
She looked at the empty villa, suddenly feeling a sense of loss. Perhaps she didn't want to dismantle Su Cheng anymore. Perhaps he really was different.
A moment later, five men in black arrived with five crates. Each crate contained four sets of E-tier mechanical cybernetics. Remi stood at the window, watching Su Cheng and the five men leave.
In the central villa of the district, a large, fierce-looking man with a neckless, fleshy face was listening to his subordinate's report. "You say a man walked out of that girl's villa alive?"
"Yes, sir. The young mistress even had someone give him 20 sets of E-tier mechanical cybernetics to take away."
The man nodded slowly. "Look into that boy's identity. If he's just some guy good at playing games, take care of him. Remember, do it cleanly. Don't let the young mistress find out."
"Yes, sir!" The two subordinates left immediately.
"You'd better not be deceiving my daughter." The man’s eyes were filled with murderous intent.
At that moment, the woman kneeling before the man looked up and said coquettishly, "Big Boss, you're quite hot-headed today, aren't you?"
The man said impatiently, "Keep your head down!"
