Chapter 51: A Sumptuous Hot Pot and Courtship of Death
Under Nan Shiyin's gaze, Ye Feng looked like a magician, continuously pulling hot pot ingredients out from the spatial void.
Sliced beef, sliced mutton, crown daisy, shiitake mushrooms, baby napa cabbage, konjac knots...
"Ye Feng, you're amazing!"
Nan Shiyin's beautiful eyes shone brightly as she swallowed hard.
Ye Feng smiled and continued pulling out more food.
Eggs, fish tofu, duck intestines, meatballs, matsutake mushrooms, kelp knots...
All kinds of ingredients covered the entire table, dazzling to the eye.
Nan Shiyin's lips parted slightly, and her lovely eyes widened in disbelief.
Although she had already witnessed Ye Feng's miraculous abilities, this sort of conjuring whatever came to mind, just like magic, still left her utterly shocked.
"Ye Feng, you're too incredible! How on earth is this possible?"
Ye Feng thought for a moment and decided there was no need to keep it a secret.
"This is my spatial ability; it allows me to store items."
Ye Feng then pulled out two packets of hot pot dipping sauce, a bottle of sesame paste, a bottle of sesame oil, a bottle of crushed peanuts, a handful of chopped scallions, and a handful of cilantro...
Finally, Ye Feng produced a case of mineral water and instructed, "Shiyin, I'll leave the rest to you!"
"Oh, by the way, what flavor of hot pot base would you like?"
"I have tomato base, bone broth base, tallow base, mushroom base... How about the spicy tallow base?"
Nan Shiyin hurriedly replied, "Anything is fine with me! Leave the rest to me. Ye Feng, you should go rest."
"Hehe, then I'll just wait here to eat."
Ye Feng turned around and sat down on the sofa chair to rest.
Nan Shiyin began preparing the hot pot ingredients, pouring the mineral water into the pot, adding the soup base, and mixing the dipping sauces.
Before long:
Bubble, bubble!
The water in the hot pot began to boil, and the rich, fragrant aroma of the tallow soup base filled the air.
"It smells so good!" Nan Shiyin exclaimed in delight.
The two of them took their seats and officially began eating.
Ye Feng placed slices of meat into the pot, waited a moment to retrieve them, coated them thoroughly in the prepared dipping sauce, and popped them into his mouth. The flavor exploded on his palate.
Delicious!
Simply too delicious!
Ye Feng offered endless praise.
Nan Shiyin, meanwhile, was eating with tears streaming down her face.
She had once believed she would never taste such wonderful food again.
At this moment, her heart was filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude toward Ye Feng.
Thank goodness for Ye Feng!
Nan Shiyin also began eating voraciously.
The two of them thoroughly feasted inside the room.
***
On the same floor, inside another room.
Five men sat around a dining table, eating rice mixed with soy sauce.
On the table, there was only a single basin of rice and two ham sausages.
Other than that, there was nothing else.
They ate in silence.
Among these men was a well-proportioned man wearing gold-rimmed glasses.
His name was Sun Weixin, originally a lecturer in the Chinese Department at Jiangcheng University.
When the apocalypse arrived, he had been resting in the faculty building and narrowly escaped with his life.
Later, several campus security guards fled to this faculty building.
At first, these guards seemed relatively benign.
However, as the days passed by, everyone gradually realized that order no longer existed.
Relying on their numerical advantage, the guards began beating and cursing the surviving teachers.
They even plundered what little food remained.
Sun Weixin had once come dangerously close to starving to death.
Later on, however, he miraculously awakened an ability that allowed him to petrify his body, forming a suit of stone armor, making him an Awakened individual.
On the very first day he acquired his superpowers, Sun Weixin acted with ruthless decisiveness, hunting down and killing the people who had bullied him one by one, completing a deeply satisfying revenge!
The only security guard who survived was a man named Wang Dazhuang, who had actually been quite decent to him and never participated in the bullying.
Because Wang Dazhuang wasn't very bright, he had been at the very bottom of the security hierarchy.
Seeing that everyone had eaten their fill, Sun Weixin slowly spoke up:
"Everyone, our food is running low!"
"This afternoon, we need to head upstairs again to scavenge for supplies."
Wang Dazhuang immediately patted his chest and said, "Hehe, no problem! Boss Sun, I'll listen to whatever you say."
Sun Weixin glanced at him sideways.
Wang Dazhuang lived up to his name; he was tall and sturdy, though somewhat simple-minded and blunt in his speech.
He was cowardly, yet possessed a massive appetite.
His only redeeming quality was his loyalty to Sun Weixin.
The other three men also nodded in agreement.
They were all former victims of the security guards' bullying and had witnessed firsthand Sun Weixin unleashing his terrifying power to beat the guards to death with his bare hands.
His methods had been ruthless, and his strength terrifying!
Ever since that day, the four of them had revered Sun Weixin as their boss, following his every command.
These five men formed the sole surviving faction within the entire faculty building.
Wang Dazhuang lowered his head to continue eating, quickly polishing off another three bowls of large rice.
"You really are a bottomless pit; you eat way too much!"
Sun Weixin scolded with a smile.
Wang Dazhuang offered a goofy grin.
Sun Weixin narrowed his eyes, deep in thought.
"The resources in this building are simply too scarce!"
"We still haven't scavenged the sixth floor... If the resources there aren't enough, we'll have no choice but to risk leaving the building."
Very few people had actually resided in this university faculty building to begin with.
Moreover, when the zombie crisis erupted, it was class time, and the vast majority of people were not around.
As a result, while the number of zombies in the building was low, the available food supply was also pitifully small.
Right now, they were left with barely any rice, alongside a few packets of bread and ham that Sun Weixin had been saving and reluctant to eat.
After finishing a semi-satisfying meal, the men picked up their makeshift weapons, stepped out of the room, and headed upstairs.
"Boss, I think I smell a strange scent..." Wang Dazhuang suddenly whispered.
The group stopped in their tracks.
"Did you all smell that?" Sun Weixin frowned.
"I smelled it!"
"There is definitely a scent. It seems to be... could it be the smell of hot pot?"
Confusion filled everyone's hearts.
Where could the smell of hot pot possibly be coming from?
It was too bizarre!
"Proceed with caution, everyone," Sun Weixin ordered.
Following the scent, they quickly located the room from which the aroma originated.
"Boss, I remember this is an empty room."
"There's no way there could be hot pot inside."
"Could we... could we have run into a supernatural event?"
They whispered among themselves.
The sudden scent still filled everyone with suspicion.
A fragrant trail drifted through the crack of the door.
The rich aroma of tallow hot pot, mixed with the scent of sliced beef and mutton...
The Adams apples of the men outside bobbed as they swallowed continuously.
"It smells so good! I want to eat hot pot so badly!"
"Damn it, what on earth is going on here?"
"Boss, what should we do now?"
Hesitation gripped them.
"Let's head back to the room first."
For the sake of caution, Sun Weixin led the others back into their room to hide.
Once inside, Sun Weixin addressed the group:
"I've thought about it carefully, and I don't believe there are any supernatural events going on. It's likely that newcomers have arrived in this building!"
"Dazhuang, Monkey, take some of our remaining supplies and go scout ahead. Find out what's really going on inside that room!"
'Dazhuang' referred to Wang Dazhuang, who immediately nodded in agreement.
'Monkey' was Li Fenghui, a university counselor.
Because of his slender and short stature, Sun Weixin had given him the nickname Monkey.
At this moment, however, Monkey looked quite reluctant.
After all, the sudden appearance of the hot pot aroma was deeply suspicious, and scouting missions like this carried significant danger.
"Are you unwilling to go?"
Sun Weixin stared at Li Fenghui with an unpleased expression.
Monkey couldn't help but shiver.
The vivid scene of Sun Weixin slaughtering numerous security guards was still fresh in his memory.
Yielding to the pressure, Monkey had no choice but to nod in agreement.
The two men gathered some food and, mustering up their courage, walked over to the door of Ye Feng's room.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Monkey gently knocked on the door with a trembling heart.
"Hello? Is anyone in there?"
