Chapter 36: Vengeance
Ye Feng’s logic was simple. Those who shot at him undoubtedly harbored malicious intent. All he had to do was find the people in the building who felt that way toward him, and then… kill every single one of them.
“Not this one…”
“Not this one either…”
He found nothing for a moment, but Ye Feng did not lose heart. Leaving the room, he moved through the hallways, continuing to gather information.
The eighth unit…
The twelfth unit…
Suddenly, Ye Feng’s eyes lit up. Inside an apartment on the tenth floor, three young punks with dyed yellow hair looked uneasy. Within the room, there was also a woman who had been tortured beyond recognition…
Ye Feng felt a shock. The woman looked familiar—she seemed to be a film star. As for these young punks, they radiated varying degrees of malice toward him.
“Found you.”
A cold smirk tugged at the corners of Ye Feng’s mouth. With a flicker, he vanished from where he stood.
***
Tenth floor. A certain room. The three punks looked at each other in panic.
“Zhou Wanjin ran away, what do we do now?”
“That esper shouldn’t be able to find us, right?”
Just as the words left his mouth, the door was kicked open with a resounding bang! Three pairs of eyes darted toward the entrance, trembling. Standing there was a man in black, his eyes filled with murderous intent. It was Ye Feng.
The moment the three young men saw him, their bodies involuntarily shivered. Seeing their reaction, Ye Feng knew for certain: these were the ones who had attacked him.
“Was it you who fired the shots earlier?” Ye Feng asked in a chilling tone.
The three turned pale. They had been in the building and witnessed Ye Feng’s actions, as well as his superhuman speed. They knew he was almost certainly an esper, and a dangerous one at that.
“Big brother, what are you talking about? I don’t understand!” one of them said with a look of feigned innocence, his hand quietly reaching for the weapon at his waist.
Ye Feng snorted coldly. In a flash, he was beside the man, his hand clamping firmly around his throat.
“I… Gulp!” The man tried to speak.
*Crack!*
Ye Feng applied slight pressure, crushing the man’s throat instantly. He slumped over, dead.
“Now, think carefully before you speak again!”
Ye Feng looked coldly at the remaining two.
“Damn it, I’ll fight you!” Another yellow-haired punk frantically pulled out a handgun, preparing to pull the trigger.
In the next instant, a blade flashed. *Squelch!* His hand, along with the gun, dropped to the ground as blood sprayed like a fountain.
“Ahhh! My hand!” The punk collapsed, clutching his wrist and wailing in agony.
Ye Feng sneered. He stepped forward and, without hesitation, crushed the man’s skull as if it were a watermelon. Blood and brain matter splattered everywhere.
Ye Feng turned to the third man, grinning like a devil. “Now… it’s just you. You’d better choose your words wisely!”
The last survivor, seeing his companions slaughtered, was terrified to the point of wetting himself, his legs turning to jelly.
“I… I…” The punk stammered, incoherent.
“Is that your answer?” Ye Feng’s tone was frigid.
The punk collapsed to the floor in terror. “No! I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything! It was Zhou Wanjin who fired the shots! He said you were too arrogant—he couldn’t stand you driving that truck! He fired the guns himself; we were just bystanders! Zhou Wanjin fired many times! It really has nothing to do with me!”
The punk spilled everything he knew like beans from a bag.
“Oh?” Ye Feng’s gaze shifted. “This Zhou Wanjin you speak of—where is he now?”
The punk answered without hesitation, “He ran! When Zhou Wanjin saw you charging over, he realized something was wrong and went to the thirteenth floor to find his brother. His brother is a powerful esper who can manipulate ice and destroy anything with ease!”
Ye Feng nodded, acknowledging the information. He then asked, “What is the background of you people?”
The punk replied immediately, “The Zhou brothers escaped from Qingcheng Prison. It’s said they killed the prison guards… Zhou Wanrong has plenty of guns and men. We were just residents here… we were forced to join them under threat!”
“Big brother, I’m innocent! I haven’t done anything bad!”
Ye Feng fell into thought. Zhou Wanrong? He had heard of this man in his previous life. He was a powerful ice-attribute esper and the leader of a faction. Zhou Wanjin also possessed a beast-transformation ability. The brothers had hundreds of underlings and many firearms. However, they were later absorbed by a stronger faction—if Ye Feng recalled correctly, it was the team of the esper known as the Fire God. He had never had any personal dealings with them.
It seemed Zhou Wanrong had awakened his ice ability, while Zhou Wanjin had not yet awakened his.
*You brothers lived quite comfortably in the last life… but since you’ve provoked me in this one, your time is up.*
Thinking of his ruined bird, Ye Feng felt a pang of sorrow.
“Big brother, I’ve told you everything! Please, let me go!” the punk pleaded incessantly.
Ye Feng nodded with a faint smile. “You’ve done well. Thanks for the intel.”
The punk was overjoyed, feeling as though he had been granted a reprieve. “Thank you for sparing me!”
A cold smirk played on Ye Feng’s lips. “Sparing you… that’s impossible. I’m sending you on your way now!”
The punk felt a bone-chilling cold, as if he had fallen into an icy abyss. “You… you broke your word! I told you… I told you everything!”
Ye Feng sneered, “When did I ever say I would spare you?”
The punk’s eyes widened, as if he wanted to say more. Ye Feng moved his blade. A flash of light—a thin line of blood appeared across the man’s throat.
“Gurgle, gurgle!” Blood spurted out. The punk clutched at his throat in horror, but he couldn’t stop the flow.
“Why…?”
With a final look of disbelief, he collapsed and died.
All three were dead. Ye Feng glanced at the unconscious film star in the room. Her limbs were broken, and she was a husk of a human. She was covered in scars, her eyes were blinded, and her ears and nose had been sliced off… it was truly tragic. Her injuries were so severe that she could pass away at any moment.
*A bunch of scum!* Ye Feng felt a surge of hatred. She had been such a beautiful woman.
Ye Feng stepped forward and cast a Holy Blessing. White light washed over her. The woman let out a low groan but did not wake. Ye Feng looked at her injuries again and redoubled his efforts.
The woman slowly regained consciousness. “I… I’m still alive…”
Ye Feng sighed. “Yes, but I’m afraid you’re going to die.”
The woman looked down at her wretched state, her heart filled with despair. After a long silence, she gave a bitter laugh. “Give me a quick death.”
“Alright.” Ye Feng nodded and reached out to grip her throat.
*Crack.*
Her throat was crushed, and she passed away. Unable to save her, Ye Feng could only end her suffering. He felt a sense of melancholy. He had actually enjoyed the dramas this actress had starred in. What a shame.
*This is the apocalypse.*
Ye Feng glanced at the corpses on the floor… scum, all of them. They weren't worth pity. He turned and walked away.
“Zhou brothers, you’re next!”
