Chapter 21: Continuous Scavenging of Supplies
Ye Feng checked the instructions again: the necklace needed to be in contact with a member of a certain group for five minutes.
In other words, it had to be in contact with a zombie!
After a moment of thought, Ye Feng cleared away the debris and stepped out of the shop. On the street, quite a few zombies were wandering about. With quick reflexes, Ye Feng grabbed the pale thigh of a nearby zombie and sprinted back.
Boom!
His act of kidnapping a zombie naturally triggered a riot among the surrounding undead. However, because Ye Feng was incredibly fast, he had already retreated into the shop before the other zombies could react.
He slammed the door shut!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Outside, the horde of zombies began pounding frantically against the door. After reinforcing the barricade, Ye Feng turned his attention to the zombie he had captured.
Oh? It was a female zombie. Wearing black stockings, a short skirt, and a professional white-collar outfit, she was quite busty. At that moment, she was clawing at the air and snarling at him!
Ye Feng took out a rope and tied the zombie up securely.
"Roar!"
Ye Feng frowned, stepped forward, and delivered two resounding slaps to her face.
The white-collar zombie fell silent instantly. She looked dazed. What are you doing? In all her life, no man had ever hit her before!
"Here, a necklace for you!"
Seeing that the zombie had quieted down, Ye Feng was finally satisfied and placed the necklace around her neck.
To his surprise, a while later:
"Roar, roar, roar!"
The white-collar zombie resumed her incessant howling. Ye Feng ignored her, walked to the side, pulled out a bag of sunflower seeds, and opened a short-video app to pass the time.
He opened one video: parents had died tragically, begging for help...
He opened another: a recording of a neighbor's zombie child, detailing how it had tortured its parents to death...
Douyin had relaxed its censorship... now, anything could be filmed.
"..."
He was in no mood to watch anymore. Ye Feng closed the app and sighed deeply.
Alas, the era of beautiful legs had gone, never to return!
Five minutes later, Ye Feng killed the white-collar zombie with a single strike. He removed the necklace, rinsed it clean with water, and put it on himself.
"I wonder how effective it is?" Ye Feng muttered to himself.
He stood up and opened the map on his phone. After searching for a while, he quickly locked onto his target. The largest shopping mall nearby was the Fortune Plaza.
Ye Feng’s logic was simple: shopping centers usually contained large supermarkets, and supermarkets were guaranteed to have massive amounts of supplies. If he emptied a supermarket, he wouldn't have to worry about resources for a long time.
With that, he opened the door and walked out. On the street, zombies were still wandering, but this time, even as Ye Feng stood right in front of a group of them, they acted as if he were invisible.
Ye Feng intentionally caused a stir by throwing a stone.
Whoosh!
A large number of zombies looked up simultaneously, searching for the source of the sound. Yet, they still could not detect Ye Feng.
Ye Feng walked up to a sturdy-looking zombie, waved his hand in front of its face, and teased, "I’m standing right in front of you—do you recognize me from before?"
The zombie tilted its head, looked up in confusion, and still failed to perceive Ye Feng’s presence.
Thinking for a moment, Ye Feng backhanded it with a solid slap!
Smack!
The zombie was sent spinning 360 degrees by the force of the blow before crashing heavily to the ground. Ye Feng naturally hadn't used his full strength; a full-powered slap would have surely decapitated the creature.
The next moment, the struck zombie climbed up in a rage, baring its blood-stained maw to bite at Ye Feng.
"Oh, so you can detect me now!"
Ye Feng swung his blade and severed the zombie's head. Looking around, the surrounding zombies were gathering in greater numbers. They were howling and becoming restless, yet they still couldn't sense him.
"It seems they only notice me after I attack one of them... This invisibility necklace is truly useful!"
Satisfied with the test, Ye Feng cleared his throat.
"Move aside, everyone! What’s the gathering for? I’m talking to you, get out of the way!"
Ye Feng acted haughtily. Pushing past several zombies, he squeezed out of the crowd.
"Time to go!"
Ye Feng tapped his toes on the ground, and his body shot forward like a bolt of lightning. The surrounding high-rises blurred as they receded behind him... leaving only a trail of afterimages in the air.
On the street, a group of zombies remained, looking at each other in confusion. Had something just passed by?
Ye Feng continued his sprint.
"Huh! A convenience store!"
Ye Feng stopped. The street he was currently on was relatively prosperous, lined with small supermarkets and convenience stores.
"My space is running low on supplies; I might as well restock here."
With that in mind, Ye Feng entered the convenience store. There were a few zombies wandering inside, but his entry went unnoticed.
"So much food!"
Ye Feng was pleasantly surprised. The store wasn't large, and several shelves had toppled over, leaving the space in a chaotic mess. Snacks were scattered everywhere on the floor: sausages, bread, instant noodles, jelly, potato chips... along with mineral water, various beverages, milk, and canned fruit. Everything a typical store would stock was there.
Delighted, Ye Feng didn't stand on ceremony; he swept all these items—along with the shelves themselves—into his storage space. In the corner of the store were daily necessities: dish soap, laundry detergent, seasonings, salt... Ye Feng decided to collect those as well. Although they weren't edible, living comfortably required such things.
As Ye Feng collected the supplies, the few zombies in the store became restless. They couldn't notice him, but they could sense the items around them constantly disappearing, which made them agitated.
"Roar!" The zombies began to howl.
"What a nuisance!"
Ye Feng drew his Flame Combat Blade and unleashed a series of slashes!
Swish, swish!
The zombies’ heads hit the floor, and dark blood spilled out. After dealing with them, Ye Feng finished scouring the place to ensure nothing was left before leaving.
"Not a bad haul!" Ye Feng walked down the street with a slight smirk. "In that case... I might as well hit a few more."
Over the next quarter of an hour, Ye Feng encountered several more convenience stores. He didn't spare a single one, looting them completely.
"Hmm, a pharmacy?"
"Medicine is bound to be valuable in the apocalypse! Since my space is infinite, I might as well take plenty!"
With that, he walked toward the pharmacy. As he entered, a mix of foul odors and the sharp scent of disinfectant hit him.
"Someone must have spilled the disinfectant," he mused. He scanned the room; the shelves were packed with various medicines, the counters were cluttered with bottles and jars, and two zombies were wandering about.
With a thought, a massive amount of medication vanished. Cold medicine, aspirin... fever reducers like ibuprofen and acetaminophen... and digestive aids like Weishuping and anti-inflammatory tablets—all were swept into his storage space.
The two female zombies in nurse uniforms noticed the goods disappearing and became restless.
"Roar!" They were displeased. What was going on? Why were the items vanishing?
However, unable to perceive Ye Feng, they could only pace back and forth in agitation.
"The effect of the invisibility necklace is truly excellent!" Ye Feng praised inwardly.
As he continued forward, one of the nurse zombies blocked his path. Ye Feng reached out, pressed his hand against her chest, and gently pushed her aside.
"The touch... is a bit firm!"
Ye Feng sighed, continuing to collect medicine. The two zombies remained completely baffled and helpless. Since he hadn't attacked them, they still couldn't detect his presence.
Beyond medicinal treatments, Ye Feng also collected skin creams, eye drops, ointments... and even feminine hygiene products and various supplements.
After clearing out the pharmacy, he turned and left, thoroughly satisfied.
Back on the move, Ye Feng soon encountered another supermarket—larger than the convenience stores he had looted earlier. However, the door was locked. Ye Feng swung his blade, shattering the lock, and stepped inside to collect the goods.
Just as he was about to begin, he raised an eyebrow and paused.
Some items were missing from the shelves, and there were no zombies inside. Sensing something off, he listened intently. From a corner, he heard the faint sound of breathing.
"A survivor?"
Ye Feng frowned. He pretended not to notice and began looting the supplies. He didn't bother hiding his storage ability; in this world, rumors of superpower users were common, and their abilities were diverse. As long as he claimed to be a space-power user, no one would be suspicious, and his system would remain a secret.
Swish, swish, swish!
As he continued to collect supplies, the shelves disappeared one by one... Ye Feng gradually approached the survivor's hiding spot.
A thought crossed his mind.
Ye Feng smirked and intentionally left an opening, turning his back to the hidden person. Suddenly, the person's breathing grew rapid.
The next moment, a roar echoed through the store!
"Go to hell!"
