Four evil entities.

Stepping forward in unison, Wu Xian had nowhere to run.

He could only watch as they closed in bit by bit, their shattered wounds and icy faces becoming clearer and more vivid.

Their expressions gradually grew ferocious, and wisps of resentful, evil aura enveloped Wu Xian.

Wu Xian suddenly felt extreme agony.

His head felt as though it were splitting, his heart gripped by searing pain, his entire body feeling as if it were being torn apart. Heartache, fear, anger, remorse... all sorts of emotions flooded in all at once.

If not for Wu Xian intentionally delaying his return home to observe the situation, perhaps this tragedy might never have happened.

Of course, these emotions did not belong to Wu Xian.

Yet, because Wu Xian was the one driving this body, the negative toll of these emotions was borne entirely by him.

Wu Xian endured the pain.

Watching those four pale, horrifying faces draw closer and closer—so close they nearly pressed against his, allowing him to clearly see maggots crawling within the wounds—he couldn't help but smile helplessly.

Even him, right now.

Could not think of any way to survive.

...

"My dear family!"

"Can you just give me a quick and clean death?"

Ten minutes later.

Wu Xian, staring at his dark eye-rings, finally couldn't help but speak out.

Aside from the resentful aura, these four evil entities had not actually harmed Wu Xian; they merely stood there blankly, staring at him with cold, unblinking eyes.

The terror of the silent gaze during the first five minutes was enough to make anyone wet themselves.

Yet, after five minutes.

Wu Xian simply began to feel bored. Whatever it is you want to do, can you make it snappy?

Are you treating me like some kind of guard post just to stand here?

"Even if you can't give me a swift end, your body temperatures are so low, it's freezing! Can't you at least let me put on another layer of clothes before we continue?"

Wu Xian rambled on for quite a while.

The four evil entities finally made a new move. Each of them spoke a single sentence filled with deep resentment directed at Wu Xian.

"Avenge us!"

"Kill the criminal, kill the criminal's entire family, and only then can we rest in peace."

"Otherwise..."

"Otherwise, you will come keep us company. Our family must always stay together, complete and united!"

Four blood-stained hands grabbed Wu Xian's face, the bodies of the evil entities gradually softening and pouring from Wu Xian's face into his body. Wu Xian instantly felt a bone-chilling cold throughout his entire being, swept by an intensely uncomfortable sensation as if a catastrophic doom was about to befall him!

The evil entities vanished.

Yet Wu Xian, having experienced a similar ordeal once before, did not relax.

He realized that he had been cursed!

This was a curse originating from the relatives of this body, and it could only be lifted by resolving their lingering resentment and helping them exact their revenge.

Wu Xian took a long while to steady himself on the ground before standing up.

"I see..."

"No wonder it was so peaceful earlier. So this is how this blessed land operates; the peaceful beginning was merely a buildup, and only by helping the ghosts take revenge can one survive."

"No, it can't be that simple!"

Flashing through Wu Xian's mind was all the information he had gathered earlier, and he suddenly realized that this entire blessed land reeked of an eerie, sinister undertone.

True, it wasn't like the previous blessed land where wicked specters could manifest in broad daylight, but the dangers of this world were certainly no less than the last!

They might even be far more terrifying and despair-inducing!

...

The sorrow originating from the doctor finally subsided.

Wu Xian was finally able to move freely. The discomfort caused by the curse lingered, but his mobility had returned.

After the four evil entities disappeared, the room reverted into a gruesome crime scene.

He surveyed his surroundings. The once-cozy room was now in utter chaos, with splattered blood everywhere. The corpses of the family of four were scattered about, presenting a shocking and harrowing sight.

The meticulously prepared dishes were still set upon the dining table, with only a small portion consumed.

All of which had ended up in Wu Xian's stomach.

The decorations on that four-tier cake had never been red fruit at all, but bright crimson blood. Resting atop the very peak of the cake was an eyeball belonging to an unknown origin...

A wave of nausea immediately hit Wu Xian, and he rushed frantically to the bathroom to vomit.

After emptying his stomach.

Wu Xian heard the barking of a dog coming from outside.

The neighbor's big black dog started howling wildly again, and Wu Xian finally understood its reaction and that of the neighbor.

Perhaps the big black dog wasn't hostile.

It was warning Wu Xian that his home was no longer safe!

Such a loyal and righteous dog naturally deserved some reward.

Therefore, Wu Xian found a platter of braised pork knuckle on the home's dining table that had not been contaminated by blood and flesh. Carrying the bag and dishes he had brought from the hospital, he stepped out of the house and encountered the black dog once more.

The big black dog likely sensed the evil entity clinging within Wu Xian's body.

Thus, its body crouched low, baring its teeth in extreme vigilance toward Wu Xian, occasionally letting out a low roar as a warning for Wu Xian not to approach.

Wu Xian ignored its warning and nimbly vaulted over the railing.

The big black dog lunged with a bite, but Wu Xian effortlessly locked its throat, then reached into his bag with one hand to pull out several syringes.

"Good doggy, thank you for the warning just now."

"I have a rather insignificant request... though it's a bit wicked, I still hope you can help me out."

Wu Xian took the syringe brought from the hospital out of his bag, pierced it straight into the black dog's body, and drew a full tube of black dog blood. Then came the second tube, the third tube...

After drawing a full five tubes of fresh blood, Wu Xian finally released the poor dog, which was now limp on the ground, and placed the plate of pork knuckle right before it.

"Good doggy, eat some meat to build up your strength."

"Awoo, awoo..."

The dog retreated straight into the corner, tucking its tail, shivering uncontrollably as it stared at Wu Xian.

Wu Xian returned to the room carrying the five tubes of black dog blood, pausing before closing the door to offer the big black dog a gentle smile: "Eat up quickly, nourish your body well. I might still need your blood in the future."

The black dog's howling grew even more pitiful.

...

Wu Xian carried the black dog blood back into his home with a satisfied expression.

With this stuff, he would have at least some means of fighting back against the evil entities.

Next, Wu Xian conducted a brief investigation of the room, quickly piecing together the general sequence of the case.

The criminal must have used some pretext to gain entry into Doctor Xu's home.

Doctor Xu's family had treated him hospitably, but for reasons unknown, the criminal suddenly launched a violent assault, killing He Ya first as she was closest to him, slicing the corners of her mouth wide open.

The two elderly people heard the commotion, saw their daughter-in-law collapse, and rushed forward to fight the criminal with their lives. Yet one was cleaved straight down the middle by the criminal, while the other had their head severed.

The three of them died at roughly the same time.

The last to die was Xu Xiaoyan, who had hidden in a cabinet hoping to escape the massacre, but was ultimately discovered by the killer, who slit her abdomen right through the cabinet door.

The entire process was efficient and brutal. The criminal left behind no excessive evidence, nor wasted any time, giving the victims not a single chance—he had come with the intent to slaughter the entire family.

This was by no means an ordinary murderer.

Only an assassin possessing a remarkably high degree of proficiency could commit such a bloody crime.
