Chapter Fifty-Three: The Four-Legged Bone Serpent Bird and the Sniping!
This ostrich-like monster possessed an extremely bizarre appearance. Its four thick, long legs were covered in dark brown scales, and while its body was as massive as an elephant, its back and neck were densely covered with blood-red, giant bone spikes resembling coral monsters!
Standing a full four meters tall, the ostrich-like monster currently appeared utterly enraged. Its cold gaze locked onto the bearded man ahead, filled with a deep, chilling hatred.
The monster also possessed a python-like tail that lashed back and forth, effortlessly shattering millstone-sized boulders into tiny fragments.
Tang Zhen fixed his gaze intently on the ostrich-monster, and moments later, a panel of information popped up in his field of vision.
[Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird, Level 4 Monster, possesses an extremely strong territorial awareness, adept at running and chasing prey, its tail-whip delivers massive lethality, its weakness is located at the bone crevices on its back; a direct hit there will result in a one-hit kill!]
Observing the sheer size of the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird, Tang Zhen could not help but admire the audacity of the bearded man and his companions, daring as they were to provoke such a terrifying monster.
However, judging from the traps previously prepared by the bearded man and his group, there might genuinely be a possibility of subduing this Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird.
Regardless, he would simply watch the developments unfold for now.
Not far from the edge of the giant vine forest, the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird stopped dead in its tracks after bursting out of the woods.
It seemed to have sensed the presence of danger. Even though the bearded man was holding the egg and standing not far away, taunting it with exaggerated gestures, the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird did not immediately charge forward.
Yet, the bearded man's next action completely provoked the creature.
The bearded man lifted the egg high into the air and made a motion as if to smash it.
Seeing the egg that it had painstakingly incubated about to be shattered, the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird let out an angry roar and, like a maddened bull, charged ferociously toward the bearded man.
Running at full speed, this four-meter-tall monster moved like a speeding car, kicking up a trail of dust and smoke all along its path.
Facing the fiercely charging Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird, a mocking sneer surfaced at the corner of the bearded man's mouth.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
As the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird dashed through the trap set by the bearded man and his group, a previously rigged rope was instantly pulled taut by a hidden vagrant, accurately tripping one of the monster's legs.
Taken aback, the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird immediately tried to lift its leg to dodge, but it was already too late.
More than a dozen thick ropes twisted from monster tendons sprang up rapidly from the dust on the ground, swiftly binding the legs of the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird.
The Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird let out a piercing shriek, leaping continuously in place as if trying to shake off those resilient ropes. Meanwhile, the vagrants lying in ambush nearby attacked simultaneously; the archers loosed multiple arrows in a single volley, aiming straight for the vital areas of the monster's head.
Several other vagrants hurled burning torches that rained down around the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird, restricting its movement to a small, confined area.
Suddenly assaulted, the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird struggled and shrieked with even greater ferocity. However, the ropes were exceptionally tough; no matter how violently it fought, it could not easily break free within a short time.
"Attack with everything you've got!"
The bearded man let out a roar, and immediately after, two vagrants simultaneously raised the javelins in their hands and hurled them fiercely at the ostrich-like monster.
The javelins flew with blinding speed and vicious force, their tips honed to a sharp edge. In the blink of an eye, they pierced deeply into the wrinkled flesh of the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird.
"Thud! Thud!" Two soft sounds echoed.
The javelins drove deeply into the chest of the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird, and blood poured from the wounds, soaking the monster's body.
The Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird let out a mournful cry, now fighting desperately for its life.
At this moment, among all the ropes wrapped around its body—save for the single most tenacious one—the rest had already been torn apart by the monster. Yet, try as it might, no matter how frantically it thrashed, it simply could not tear through this remaining rope.
Watching the bearded man ahead slowly raise another javelin, it seemed to realize that death was imminent, and it emitted a sorrowful wail.
Seeing the struggling movements of the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird subside, all the vagrants, including the bearded man, unleashed an even more frenzied barrage of attacks at that exact moment!
Hidden not far away, Tang Zhen's gaze sharpened, and without the slightest hesitation, he pulled the trigger!
A crisp crack rang out. The bearded man and his companions froze slightly; before they could even react, the rope binding the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird seemed to be struck by something unseen and instantly snapped into two halves.
Suddenly freed from its restraints, the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird let out a long cry and charged furiously toward the bearded man, its eyes blazing with rage. As it rushed past one of the vagrants, its python-like tail swept out lightly, easily snapping the vagrant's neck with a clean strike.
A look of intense agony crossed the vagrant's face. Just as he reached his hands toward his neck, a sharp "snap" echoed as his neck broke entirely, and his head rolled onto the ground.
Having dispatched one vagrant, the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird suddenly leaped into the air, its massive body crashing down toward another vagrant. The vagrant turned pale with fright and tried to dodge, only for the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird to snap its jaws down upon him, revealing a mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth.
With that single bite from the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird, one of the vagrant's arms was instantly torn away. Amidst a splatter of blood, the vagrant began to shriek in agonizing pain.
Regrettably, he managed only a single cry before the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird kicked him squarely in the head. The vagrant's skull shattered like a rotten watermelon, spraying blood and brains in all directions.
Panic gripped all the remaining vagrants as they frantically directed their weapons at the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird. However, now devoid of restrictions, the monster moved with lightning speed, and most of their attacks missed entirely.
In the blink of an eye, two more vagrants perished within the jaws of the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird.
The bearded man's eyes split with rage. At this point, how could he fail to guess that someone had sabotaged them from the shadows? He glared hatefully toward the rear while roaring aloud, wielding a spear as he charged straight at the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird.
The bearded man's combat prowess was formidable, which Tang Zhen estimated to be around Level 3. He met the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird head-on, thrusting the spear in his hand forward with blinding speed, pulling it back just as quickly in a continuous blur of motion.
The bearded man moved with extreme agility, brandishing his spear until it became a phantom-like web of strikes. In an instant, over a dozen bloody holes appeared on the abdomen of the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird, and its previously fluid movements grew noticeably sluggish.
Seeing this, the remaining few vagrants also swarmed forward, intending to assist the bearded man in slaying the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird. However, before they could even draw close, that crisp gunshot rang out once more.
A vagrant standing a few paces away from the bearded man spasmed violently. The bow and arrow in his hand slipped slowly to the ground, while a bloody hole burst open squarely in the center of his chest.
Clutching his continuously bleeding chest, the vagrant wanted to turn his head in desperate frustration to find the killer, but he never managed to do so.
"Thud!"
The vagrant's corpse crashed heavily into the dust, his contorted face frozen in bitter resentment.
"Who the hell is it? Get your ass out here!"
Seeing his subordinate ambushed and killed, the bearded man roared in fury, throwing the spear in his hand violently toward the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird ahead. Driven by burning hatred, this spear throw pierced directly through the monster's chest, the sharp tip protruding clean out of its back.
Having suffered a fatal blow on top of its already extensive injuries, the Four-legged Bone-Serpent Bird completely lost the ability to fight back, its massive carcass crashing heavily onto the ground.
Having thrown his spear, the bearded man spun around abruptly, fixing a glacial gaze on a nearby patch of ruins as killing intent surged violently in his eyes. With a sharp metallic hiss, he drew a dagger from his waist, his figure shooting toward the ruins like a streak of lightning.
