Chapter 52: The Revenge Begins!
Tang Zhen looked at the blood-red application icon on his mobile phone screen. It depicted a skull with a bullet hole through its forehead, framed by a crosshair, giving it a fierce yet mysterious look.
After admiring this vivid three-dimensional pattern, Tang Zhen focused his consciousness and tapped on the application floating before his eyes.
Right at that moment, a line of text materialized in his field of vision.
[In order to optimize application resources and maximize effectiveness, it is recommended to combine the Super Shooting Assistant with the Omnipotent Digitalized Combat Interface. Do you agree?]
Tang Zhen pondered for a moment before selecting yes.
Immediately afterward, the icon of the Super Shooting Assistant vanished, while the original Omnipotent Digitalized Combat Interface took on a crimson hue.
As the digitalized combat interface activated, Tang Zhen instantly felt a crosshair appear in his vision, appearing alongside the other functions of his digital comprehensive combat interface.
A complete set of data—including ammunition count, mini-map, stamina gauge, rangefinder, and infrared telemetry—all appeared before his eyes, and his field of view expanded to a full one hundred and eighty degrees!
Fortunately, these elements occupied only the corners of his vision, causing no disruption to the normal sight he was already accustomed to.
When he looked straight ahead, the crosshair would disappear if the target was beyond two hundred meters. Once the distance dropped below two hundred meters, the crosshair would reappear.
When he focused his gaze on a specific target for three seconds, the originally green crosshair would turn red. At that point, all he needed to do was align his weapon's iron sights with the red crosshair to effortlessly eliminate any target within two hundred meters.
Tang Zhen suddenly thought of a problem: if a target was over two kilometers away, he would either need to use a high-precision scope or possess exceptional eyesight in order to target the enemy's vital points.
If the target was five kilometers away, how could anyone claim to achieve a one-shot kill on something they could barely see?
Tang Zhen did not believe this problem was insurmountable, so he browsed the application store once more and finally found an auxiliary function called the Sniper's Eye.
It could drastically enhance the user's vision, allowing them to clearly see sniper targets up to five kilometers away. It was undeniably a powerful auxiliary ability.
The download cost was five thousand gold coins, essentially serving as a specialized, simplified version of a super telescope.
Now equipped with the Super Shooting Assistant, Tang Zhen began to secretly plan his course of action, deciding this time to operate entirely alone.
He had a quiet, private discussion with Qian Long, though Qian Long strongly disagreed with him handling the matter by himself.
However, Tang Zhen patted his chest and guaranteed that there would be no problems, radiating absolute confidence.
Regardless of whether he succeeded in taking down the bearded man this time, he had a foolproof way to retreat safely, and if worst came to worst, he could simply teleport back to his original world. Bringing along another person, should any unexpected mistake occur, would likely drag them both into danger.
In the end, Tang Zhen managed to persuade Qian Long, resolving to begin staking out the bearded man the very next day and act according to circumstances.
Another morning dawned, and Tang Zhen awoke from his slumber.
Qian Long and Murong Ziyan took the remaining goods to the market to sell. Tang Zhen also tidied up, retrieved a ragged garment to wear over his cloak as a disguise, and then concealed himself in a secluded corner of the wanderer town.
He stared unblinkingly at the crowds coming and going along the street. According to Qian Long, the bearded man and his gang passed through here every day, which was why he chose this spot to wait for his prey.
At around nine o'clock in the morning, Tang Zhen, who was beginning to feel bored and restless, suddenly perked up. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he locked his gaze onto a street corner.
The bearded man had finally appeared, accompanied by seven or eight subordinates, all of them carrying weapons and equipment, looking as though they were preparing to leave the wanderer town.
Tang Zhen silently stood up, using the wanderers and buildings along the street for cover, and tailed the bearded man and his group in utter silence. Once they cleared the boundaries of the wanderer town, he followed discreetly in their tracks.
The bearded man and his cohorts hurried along ahead while Tang Zhen activated his quantum stealth screen, following unhurriedly behind them.
Judging from the direction the bearded man's group was taking, Tang Zhen deduced that they were heading toward the ruins where both sides had previously encountered each other.
That place was extremely secluded—the perfect spot to send you all packing to the afterlife!
Tang Zhen thought to himself, his gaze growing increasingly cold.
The bearded man and his followers had no idea that someone was trailing right behind them, ready to take their lives at any moment.
Tang Zhen was in no rush to strike; after all, they were still too close to the wanderer town, and wanderers frequently passed through this area. If they were accidentally discovered, it might stir up unnecessary trouble.
A powerful wanderer faction operated right behind the bearded man's group, forcing Tang Zhen to proceed with utmost caution.
Following at a steady pace through the wilderness for a long time, the bearded man and his crew finally entered the massive ruins, and Tang Zhen slipped in right behind them without a moment's hesitation.
Just like his previous visit, there were virtually no monsters roaming the outer perimeter of this mega-ruin, though the occasional shadow of a wanderer could be spotted.
Above the ruins, the gray, hazy mist seemed eternal, floating motionless. The closer one got to the center of the ruins, the denser the fog became, to the point where objects mere meters away were entirely obscured.
Afraid of losing track of the bearded man, Tang Zhen maintained a distance of less than a hundred meters, ensuring the map could display their real-time positions.
Walking a bit further, the bearded man's group stopped in a location resembling a park.
This park contained a grove of bizarrely shaped black giant vines. The branches of these vines were tangled and knotted, their bark dry and twisted like dragon scales, making them look like ferocious demons.
Cries of monsters echoed from the depths of the grove from time to time—screams so shrill and piercing they made one's hair stand on end.
After conferring briefly amongst themselves, the bearded man and his crew pulled ropes, nets, and various other miscellaneous items from their packs.
Then, they split up. Judging by their actions, they appeared to be setting some kind of trap.
Full of curiosity, Tang Zhen decided against striking immediately. Instead, he silently lay prone atop the edge of a ruin, observing the bearded man and his subordinates with a blank expression.
After watching for a short while, he confirmed that the group was indeed setting up an elaborate trap.
Tang Zhen felt deeply intrigued: what kind of prey could possibly require individuals of this strength to go to such lengths to trap it?
The bearded man was doomed to die today, but before that happened, Tang Zhen wanted to see what exactly they were trying to catch.
With that in mind, Tang Zhen calmed his racing murderous intent, focusing all his attention on careful observation.
Over at the trap site, once the setup was complete, the bearded man split his men into two groups. One group laid low around the trap, covering themselves with weeds to blend into the surroundings, lying completely motionless in the grass.
The other group consisted of the bearded man and one other wanderer. Exchanging a glance, the two of them stepped directly into the giant vine grove.
Barely ten minutes later, an angry roar of a monster suddenly echoed from within the vine grove.
Immediately following the roar, a flurry of hurried footsteps broke out, and Tang Zhen saw the bearded man and his companion burst out of the woods in panic. In the bearded man's arms was something resembling an ostrich egg.
"Awoo..."
A bizarre screech rang out right beside his ear, and simultaneously, a giant four-footed monster resembling an ostrich charged at full speed out of the forest.
