Chapter 11: Xu Xiao’s Decision

“Ordering me around… as a teacher?”
Xu Xiao gave a fake smile. “Teacher He, what about Lu Li?”
He Shufen looked completely justified.
“Why should I care about that penniless wretch?”
“Of all the students I’ve taught, he’s the only one who never gives me so much as a token during the holidays. The fact that I haven’t held it against him is already generous enough!”
“Besides, Tian Yuhao just said that Lu Li chose to follow Ying Zi’an. If he gets caught in the crossfire, that’s his own fault!”
“That scar-faced bald man is a lunatic. He really will kill people! I’m forbidding you to go for your own good!”
Once she began lecturing, He Shufen seemed to return to her home turf. She prattled on without the slightest intention of stopping.
Xu Xiao found it unbearably noisy.
“Enough.”
Xu Xiao cut her off, disappointment written plainly across her face.
“This third-tier essence crystal was obtained through the combined efforts of Wang Chao, Ma Han, and me. It has nothing whatsoever to do with any of you. You have no right to dictate who receives it!”
“Wang Chao, let’s go.”
With that, she shoved the essence crystal into Wang Chao’s hands and strode toward the door without looking back.
“Wait, Class Monitor!” Seeing that Xu Xiao truly intended to go, Ma Han hurried after her at once. “Fatty, wait for me! I’m coming with you!”
He Shufen exploded into furious abuse.
“Xu Xiao! You little slut, get back here! What are you idiots waiting for? Go stop her! Take the essence crystal back!”
The crowd fell silent. No one moved.
Although everyone felt Xu Xiao’s decision was somewhat unfair, the third-tier essence crystal belonged to her, after all.
And even if they truly wanted to seize it, their abilities would be utterly useless before Wang Chao and Ma Han.
Duo Duo Cheng huddled among the crowd and ventured timidly, “Why don’t we go with Sister Xiao as well? With enough people, perhaps we really could…”
“Could what, exactly?”
Wang Xuyan’s brows drew together as she glared viciously at Duo Duo Cheng.
“If you want to go throw your life away, go by yourself. Don’t drag the rest of us into it!”
Duo Duo Cheng shrank back like a startled minnow and disappeared into the crowd once more.
…
The multimedia classroom.
Ying Zi’an stared at the treasure chests before him, his grin nearly splitting his face in two.
Only a little over half an hour ago, he had still been wondering what might come out of Zhao Hui’s black-iron treasure chest. Now, he had opened two of his own!
And the contents were far more plentiful than Zhao Hui’s.
There were four second-tier essence crystals alone, along with a black-and-white coin whose purpose was unknown.
“Lu Li, take a look at this coin. What does it do?”

Because he possessed no appraisal skill, Ying Zi’an’s status panel could not display information about items.
Lu Li looked at the coin in Ying Zi’an’s hand, amusement flickering in his eyes.
He knew this thing all too well.
[Item Name: Coin of Fate]
[Quality: Poor]
[Effect: Using this item grants a chance to receive divine favor or heavenly punishment!]
[Note: Take a gamble, and your bicycle may become a motorcycle…]
Put simply, it was a blind-box gamble based entirely on luck.
With good fortune, one might obtain a unique mythic-grade item, just as Lu Li had in his previous life, or any number of other treasures.
With bad luck, one might be struck by lightning or summon a horde of monsters with terrifying combat power out of thin air.
The Coin of Fate was a miraculous item that gamblers both loved and hated.
Lu Li had never liked gambling in his previous life, but he had still carried one as a protective talisman.
Who could have guessed that this seemingly thoughtless act would grant him a second chance at the final moment?
Drawing back his gaze, Lu Li said calmly, “It’s called the Coin of Fate. Its outcome depends heavily on luck. I suggest you don’t use it recklessly.”
The Coin of Fate was appraised, and its information appeared on the status panel.
Ying Zi’an had not listened to Lu Li’s warning in the slightest. He stared fixedly at the words “divine favor,” greed blazing in his eyes.
“Divine favor… Heh. With luck as good as mine, of course I have to try!”
Then another thought occurred to him. What if his luck turned sour and he drew heavenly punishment? Wouldn’t that leave him seriously weakened?
After mulling it over, Ying Zi’an turned his attention to Lu Li.
An idea suddenly flashed through his mind.
“I can have that useless piece of trash, Lu Li, toss it for me! If something good comes out, I’ll take it. If heavenly punishment strikes, Lu Li will be the one injured!”
Ying Zi’an thought himself a genius.
Watching Ying Zi’an’s expression shift from cloudy to bright and back again, Lu Li naturally guessed what he was thinking. His gaze gradually turned cold.
If Ying Zi’an truly tried to force him to use the Coin of Fate, Lu Li would not mind killing him on the spot.
Although doing so would prevent him from triggering the maximum reward for challenging an enemy of a higher level, it was still better than taking the risk.
Having lived a second life, Lu Li would be even more cautious than before!
“Hey, Lu Li. Use this item for me!”
When the coin Ying Zi’an tossed him landed in his hand, Lu Li’s heart sank.
It seemed he would have to make his move.
Just as Lu Li was preparing to condense a blade-arm, the multimedia classroom door was suddenly kicked open.
A bald man with a scarred face sauntered in, with a familiar figure following behind him.
“Tian Yuhao? What are you doing here?”

Seeing that the newcomer meant trouble, Ying Zi’an shouted.
At the same time, both his hands transformed into razor-sharp claws, and killing intent surged from his entire body.
Tian Yuhao narrowed his eyes as he sized up Ying Zi’an, then shrugged.
“Nothing much. Someone wanted to see you. Allow me to introduce him—this is my maternal uncle.”
A-Hao looked Ying Zi’an over with keen interest.
“I heard you killed Zhao Hui. Is that true?”
“So what if I did?”
“Ah, then what happened to the things he was carrying?” A-Hao sighed with feigned regret.
“I took them, naturally. What? You want to avenge him?”
Ying Zi’an was arrogant, but he did not know how strong the other man was and did not dare act rashly.
“No. Zhao Hui and I aren’t related in the slightest. Why would I avenge him?” A-Hao swayed lazily, looking utterly relaxed. “But my employer specifically told me to find him. Now that he’s dead, I have no way to return and give my report.”
Ying Zi’an looked puzzled. “Then what do you want?”
A-Hao smiled. Under that expression, the scar on his face seemed to come alive, resembling a twisted centipede crawling across his skin.
“Simple. Hand over everything valuable you have—or leave your head behind!”
“Hah? Did I hear that correctly?”
Ying Zi’an widened his eyes, deliberately feigning astonishment.
“Do you know who currently ranks first on the level leaderboard?”
“Oh? Who?” the bald man asked with mocking interest.
“Me! Ying Zi’an!”
The instant the final word left his mouth, Ying Zi’an lunged violently toward A-Hao.
Ying Zi’an understood his situation perfectly.
Although his level crushed everyone present, his ability was geared toward close-quarters combat.
That was why his earlier posturing and his sudden attack were both part of the same strategy: to conceal his weakness.
His plan was simple.
As long as he could rapidly close the distance between them, then no matter what heaven-defying ability the bald man had awakened, he was eighty percent certain he could kill him.
Zhao Hui had died by his hand in precisely this way, after all.
As for Tian Yuhao—
He was merely another useless man who had awakened the Appraisal ability. There was no need to fear him at all!
Yet just as Ying Zi’an believed his plan was certain to succeed, the bald man’s face twisted into a mocking smile. His right hand rose with astonishing speed.
