Chapter 33: The New Roommate’s Gift
"Knock, knock."
The door opened.
"Captain Feng?"
"Adjutant Long!"
It turned out to be an acquaintance.
"What brings you here..."
"My fiancée has been assigned to this dormitory."
"Oh! Come in quickly..."
In the spacious and bright living room, two tall and handsome men in military uniforms sat facing each other. They were both taken aback when they saw Feng Yanting being ushered in.
Since everyone was acquainted, they quickly stood up to greet him.
"Captain Feng, I haven't had the chance to say it yet, but congratulations!" This was Zuo Xi, the fiancé of Lu Xue, one of Ye Moxi's roommates. He was the captain of the Third Tactical Team of the Third Legion.
"I was just saying that when we go back to cancel our leave, I’d have to make you treat us all to drinks! Congratulations, congratulations!" This was Long Mu, the husband of the second roommate, Xing Miao, and captain of the Third Tactical Team of the First Legion.
The person who opened the door was Long Mu’s cousin, Long Song. Feng Yanting was quite familiar with him, as he was one of the adjutants to Ye Tianjiao.
"Treating you all is a given! Besides, we’ll likely have more opportunities to meet in the future."
Zuo Xi and Long Mu exchanged a glance. They had already been notified that there would be a new roommate, which was why they were both here. After all, they would be spending years with their respective fiancées, and they needed to know what kind of person was being assigned to the unit. If they couldn't get along, they would have to find a way to have the person transferred...
However, if the person being assigned was Feng Yanting's fiancée...
They had only heard that his fiancée came from the fringe star systems, and as for her personality...
"Oh! Right, these are gifts."
Zuo Xi and Long Mu took them. They exchanged a knowing look—the insignia of Feng Huohuo?
It seemed that for the sake of the gifts, they would have to encourage their fiancées (wives) to get along with the new roommate for a while.
"Our room is..."
"This way..."
Zuo Xi said, leading Feng Yanting to the room on the far left.
The room was actually a suite, featuring two bedrooms, a living room, an en-suite bathroom for each room, a large balcony, and a small garden. There was also a bar area in the corner of the living room, perfect for two or three people to enjoy a drink, or even to cook a simple late-night snack.
Feng Yanting nodded with satisfaction and brought out a domestic robot to clean up.
He chose the room closest to the balcony as Ye Moxi's master bedroom. The room was painted a soft blue, and the curtains were of the same shade. Ye Moxi liked simplicity and elegance, so he didn't make too many changes. In any case, there were no classes today; if there was anything she didn't like when she returned, they could change it later.
Perhaps because Ye Moxi was in the Planting Department, planting troughs had already been placed on the balcony, and flowers and trees had been transplanted into the small garden. None of them were particularly rare, but they were arranged in an orderly, simple, and elegant manner, which was exactly what Ye Moxi would like.
While Feng Yanting was tidying up the room, Ye Moxi's two roommates finally emerged from their own quarters.
The charming and lovely Lu Xue was pouting, "Madam Feng is truly too much! If she wasn't going to sell them, why show them off? I really love that fox pendant..."
The gentle and elegant Xing Miao replied helplessly, "Then you can try to win one of the three spots for the middle of the month and have Madam Feng create a custom piece just for you."
"But that’s going to take so long! I think I’m definitely going to suffer from insomnia tonight..."
Madam Feng? A fox pendant?
Zuo Xi had already quickly opened Feng Huohuo’s StarNet account.
At seven in the morning, Feng Huohuo had posted photos of the pieces she had packed earlier. There were three pendants in different styles, with the caption: "An opening gift for the little one and her roommates! Time was short, so they aren't perfect..."
Without needing to zoom in, Zuo Xi already knew that the fox pendant in the photos was the same one Lu Xue was talking about!
Long Mu playfully toyed with the dark green box that belonged to Xing Miao.
"What do you think?"
"With such a generous gesture, as long as her character isn't too terrible, we can tolerate it! At worst, I’ll have Lu Xue move out!"
"I’ve worked with Feng Yanting for so long; he isn't the type to be blinded by beauty! Besides, if the Legion Commander could accept her as a foster daughter, she wouldn't just be a girl with a pretty face!"
"What girl? Has the new roommate arrived? What’s her personality like?..."
Lu Xue walked over and sat on the armrest of the sofa next to Zuo Xi.
"She hasn't arrived yet, but the gifts have already been given."
"Gifts?" Lu Xue took hers and hesitated before opening it.
"A Feng Huohuo seal? That’s not cheap... Oh my god!"
"What is it?" Xing Miao asked while opening the box Long Mu had handed her, only to be stunned herself.

Feng Yanting was just about to head out to pick up Ye Moxi.
After finishing the registration, collecting her textbooks, and visiting her classroom, Ye Moxi had been called away by her mentor, Feng Xun. Feng Xun wouldn't even let Feng Yanting sit in on the session, telling him to come back and pick her up in an hour.
Feng Yanting nodded at the still-stunned Lu Xue and Xing Miao before opening the door and leaving.
"Is... is the new roommate really Feng Yanting's fiancée?" Lu Xue’s voice rose an octave.
"Didn't they say his fiancée came from the fringe star systems? How is she this generous?"
"That’s old news!"
Zuo Xi showed Lu Xue the post about the "return gift"—a post Feng Yanting hadn't made in ages, and which had caused a massive stir the moment he published it.
The comment section already had over 9,999+ messages!
When an engaged couple becomes betrothed, it is traditional for the woman to give a return gift to the man. Usually, this is prepared by the family elders and is typically one-third or one-fourth the value of the gift the man provided. For noble families, this is standard; for ordinary families, a return gift of food or daily necessities is also common, as it is the thought that counts.
For people in the interstellar era, blood pearls are usually just red pearls that have been gilded, but Ye Moxi’s blood pearls were created after she had personally nourished them with her own blood for a period of time. Not every pearl oyster she nourished with her own blood produced these blood pearls; for instance, the light pink or pale purple ones were also from oysters fed with her blood. Ye Moxi even possessed a black pearl, all harvested from oysters she had nurtured.
Feng Yanting had assumed it was a sudden change of heart by Feng Huohuo, but in reality, Ye Moxi had later sent a separate package to Feng Huohuo, specifically requesting them as gifts for her roommates. She had considered their status and prepared gifts of three different tiers—high, medium, and low.
Although the Talent Academy was the empire's highest institution, it was divided into three grades—high, middle, and low—but it wasn't a place you could graduate from in just three years! According to what Ye Moxi had learned, there were those who graduated in ten years, and others who were still studying after twenty-plus years...
Therefore, as expected, she would have to live with her roommates for at least ten years! Unless necessary, she didn't want to make the relationship with them too strained.
"Are they really blood pearls? I thought that was just marketing!"
Feng Huohuo hadn't posted it on StarNet, but she had a group for her assistants. Someone had posted a screenshot saying that to set two blood pearls, Feng Huohuo hadn't eaten or slept for two days and nights...
"Someone on StarNet is estimating these two pendants to be worth ten million..."
"Ten million?" Zuo Xi scoffed. "You couldn't even buy the loose pearls for ten million!"
These pale purple and light pink pearls—before today, anyone who had seen them probably thought they were synthetic!
"That assistant group of Feng Huohuo's is really like a sieve now!"
It was undeniable: this kind of publicity by Feng Huohuo had certainly created a great deal of hype for her and her studio.
