Chapter 23: They Might Not Even Be Interested
“Do I have to keep paying them alimony? Until they die?”
“After marriage, whether or not to maintain contact with your natal family is entirely up to you. Or we can give you a lump sum of interstellar credits so you can completely cut ties with them.”
“What about Ximo? Does he have to keep paying until death?”
“Ye Ximo is an S-class sentinel; a little alimony is nothing to him.”
Ye Moxi bit her lip.
Feng Yanluo and Wang Zi were both raised with intense family focus from a young age. Their families were legitimate, centuries-old lineages with deep roots, not like the Rhode family, which had only risen in prominence for about a thousand years without a solid foundation.
Since they said it so plainly, the matter of alimony was settled.
Although she still felt uneasy, humans are, after all, social creatures. They cannot live isolated lives forever, and she could not continue applying her own mindset to Ye Ximo and cause him unnecessary trouble.
“Am I… selfish?”
Only now did she realize how much importance interstellar humans placed on family. Would Feng Yanluo look down on her because of this?
“No one has ever explained the pros and cons to you. How can you call it selfish?”
Feng Yanluo stroked her hair.
“You’re already more capable than many! Without family or elders to guide you, both you and Ye Ximo have grown up so outstanding.”
Ye Moxi’s cheeks flushed.
…
Ye Moxi had a small hobby—she especially loved arranging rooms with her own hands.
Back in the safe zone, they lacked the conditions, but Ye Moxi still made their little cabin warm and cozy. That’s why Ye Ximo asked her to come and decorate his room.
Though arranged according to Ye Moxi’s taste, the room was clearly prepared for a young man: simple, neat, yet warm.
“This is the first time since Ye Ximo and I grew up that we are formally apart…”
Ye Moxi sat on the edge of the bed, feeling a bit lost.
“Look at it another way: he is about to start a new life with new friends, and so are you! Although you’ve become parallel lines, your hearts remain together.”
Ye Moxi chuckled.
People really cannot be judged by their appearance! Someone who looks so cold can say such heartfelt things.
“Three days from now is the reporting day for the Talent Academy, but military school starts tomorrow. Where are you planning to go in these three days? Want to come with me to the First Legion?”
Ye Moxi looked at him curiously.
“If we are engaged, I can apply for a family apartment. When you’re on holiday, it will be another place you can go.”
From the moment they entered the academy, their cabin in the safe zone no longer belonged to them!
…
The academy also had winter and summer vacations. When those came, they really would have nowhere to go and would have to stay in the dorms.
“Isn’t it too hasty for us to establish this relationship?”
Of course, this relationship was only beneficial and harmless to her, but not so for Feng Yanluo!
He reached out and gently stroked her hair.
“If I hadn’t met you, I might have spent the rest of my life wandering aimlessly on a desert planet. To me, my life belongs to you. Even if you asked me to die for you, I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment…”
Suddenly, Ye Moxi felt an irresistible urge.
“Although saving you was unconscious, if I had the chance again, I wouldn’t save you just so you’d risk your life for me! Since we can live again, why not cherish it? You have to live for yourself first! And for your friends and family…”
Feng Yanluo suddenly bent down and knelt on one knee before Ye Moxi. Startled, she instinctively stepped back but was held firmly by his arm.
“I, Feng Yanluo, swear before heaven: this lifetime, I will be loyal to Ye Moxi!”
“Oh! Get up first!”
Ye Moxi tried to pull him up, but Feng Yanluo pressed on, hooking her neck and kissing her cherry lips.
The kiss was light, sweet—a flavor that could intoxicate him.
Mmm… This man was so skilled!
Both domineering and sincere, though they had barely spent time together, even officially met only twice, her heart was already helplessly falling for him!
After a long while, Ye Moxi whimpered softly. Feng Yanluo finally stopped. Her lips must be swollen!
“Won’t people notice?”
Feng Yanluo was silent. Ye Moxi’s lips were small, pink, tender, like a candy always tempting one to taste—now slightly plump…
Paired with her still youthful face, pure and innocent!
Her features were delicately attractive—not an eye-catching beauty, but a face that felt comfortable and dignified.
Of course, though the young lady looked gentle, she had quite a temper.
“We’re about to be engaged. Isn’t it normal to have intimate contact? By the way, do you want to meet my mother tomorrow?”
Ah? Already meeting the in-laws?
“Due to some special reasons, I call her ‘aunt.’ It’s inconvenient to discuss here. After dinner, I’ll take you to my apartment and tell you…”
No way? So soon? Are they going to live together now?
“Or should we stay at a hotel tonight?”
Feng Yanluo sought Ye Moxi’s opinion.
His apartment was too small. Although it had a master bedroom and a secondary room, the living room was also his office. The secondary room would be too cramped for Ye Moxi.
…
“Or after dinner, we can look at houses? It’ll be about six months until the new place is renovated and ready. If we hurry, you could move in during your winter break.”
Ye Moxi thought she was quick-witted, but she still couldn’t keep up with Feng Yanluo’s fast pace!
“Our old cabin in the safe zone wasn’t even as big as Ximo’s current bathroom, yet we lived there for ten years.”
“You’ve worked hard! I should have found you earlier!”
At the very least, it would have spared Ye Moxi some years of hardship.
Ye Moxi choked up a little, not meaning it that way.
“Housing prices on Imperial Star are too high! Just having a place to live is enough.”
Feng Yanluo was indifferent.
Giving up his princely status didn’t mean he gave up his wealth.
With the Feng family managing his assets, although on the surface they were handed to his mother, she then transferred them back to him in other ways.
Currently, he officially owned only a small single apartment, but in reality, he had two three-story mansions…
However, their relationship was not yet at the stage to greet sunrises and sunsets together, so he would never bring Ye Moxi to live in the mansions.
Even single-celled sentinels could be scheming when it came to getting closer to their guides.
“I’m hungry! Let’s go eat.”
Feng Yanluo nodded. Everything of his would be hers—now it was only a matter of time.
“Beep beep.”
Feng Yanluo answered. It was Feng Xun.
“Uncle!”
“Your mother and Ye Tianjiao have arrived. Bring Ye Moxi and your siblings to my office.”
“Looks like we have to meet my mother and the legion commander first.”
“But we just told Ximo’s roommate we’d have hotpot together…”
Wouldn’t it be rude to leave like that?
“Then… how about we go check the situation first, then have Ximo come over?”
Ye Moxi nodded.
After all, he was a legion commander. What kind of outstanding sentinels wouldn’t be picky? Maybe he wouldn’t even look twice at Ximo.
